Sick of wasting my life because of the rain

1000 replies

GoodnightAdeline · 24/03/2024 19:18

I don’t care how many people say ‘it was always like this..’ yes it rained a lot when I was a kid but now it does nothing BUT rain.

I swear to God out of the last 30 days we have had 1 or maybe 2 where it wasn’t fucking raining. And they’re always midweek.

I feel like all we do is sit inside going stir crazy waiting for the rain to stop. I have 2 small children and while they’re desperate to go to the park/beach, even they’re not keen in a torrential downpour with everything covered in mud.

I’m sick of all my plans being cancelled, staring out of the window at depressing grey skies and trying to figure out how to pass the weekend without spending a ton of cash on expensive (and brief) indoor activities.

It’s driving me fucking crazy and not an exaggeration to say it’s sending me into some kind of low level depression. 🍷

As we have never come across one another on a thread before - I tend to only post in the stage 4 cancer thread - I have reported your post as a personal attack.
I have no idea what you mean by 'posters like me', however if you mean those with terminal illnesses I think that does cross a line.

You know it was perfectly CLEAR I was commenting to Malone Meadows. perfectly clear.

I find it very strange and suspect that you would even think I was commenting to you.

I’ll report you to for doing this.

Ask as many times as you want. Engage your brain and try problem solve that predicament yourself. You’re an adult. Go figure

It is achievable without a tumble dryer btw

CLUE I suggest you prevent the clothes getting endless wet by dressing appropriately

I live in a tiny two bedroom flat with young children. We have a tumble dryer as there's no other way to keep on top of the laundry without causing mould.

We have room for one clothes horse and I can just about manage to use that for things that can't be tumble dried. Am I not engaging my brain hard enough?

You are so angry about such a mundane topic, it's truly bizarre. British people often moan about the weather. OP is just having a moan.

I completely agree with OP. I live in coastal Scotland and it's been tougher than usual this year. The driving, biting rain drags you down when it's as constant as it has been this year. It's hard wrapping toddlers up, to heave them and all the extra things you need in this weather down 3 flights of stairs. And then all the mess of that to deal with when you get back. I have an injury that really plays up in the cold and wet too. We've had the fire on most nights. It wasn't like this the past couple of years.

Most people are longing for a bit more sunshine. Hardly a controversial statement.

redalex261 · 24/03/2024 23:32

I too am in West Coast of Scotland where it has rained for bloody months. Still out twice a day walking dogs. When it’s really bad I’m decked out in a deeply unflattering ankle length waterproof coat and hikers. Look like a five foot high dalek but at least no-one recognises me with the hood up….

It wasn’t meant for me, we’re not stupid. You’re just panicking now and making excuses for your own disgusting + derogatory language.

@WrenNatsworthy I’m sorry about this poster!!

Somehowgirl · 24/03/2024 23:35

@StaunchMomma

Kids aren't so pathetic that they have to be attached to a radiator 24-7.

That's learned behaviour from parents.

When we came out of the swimming pool last week my toddler burst into tears, the rain and cold was so lashing us. There's weather and there's weather.

We were dressed appropriately but it's very cold and wet in some parts of the country and it's been a particularly bad winter for rain. Records show that this is true. The kids are fed up too. Too many playtimes at school stuck inside.

It’s tough isn’t it and the constant damp and cold is hard to deal with. A lot of posters seem to be happy to ignore the financial cost of this in this thread.

MajorConsequences · 24/03/2024 23:37

You are not being unreasonable.
Yes, I've got the right clothing, but it's still bloody miserable. There is always wind where we live too (traditionally miserable area with a reputation for rain). It's just wet, windy and cold, so many gales this year too. If it has to be cold then where are the sunny crisp frosty days? Or even a bit of snow.
I actually live near the beach, which should be wonderful, but trying to walk in winter with sand being thrown into your face. Miserable.
Then summer ends up being a damp, wet squib.
I'm desperate to emigrate.

LuckySantangelo35 · 24/03/2024 23:38

MaloneMeadow · 24/03/2024 23:12

Then move away to a warmer climate, you’re the one claiming that it’s easy!

@MaloneMeadow

no

you are wrong. I have never said that emigrating is easy

crackofdoom · 24/03/2024 23:38

"Just crack on", lol 😆
I went for a walk today, along a popular beach and up onto the cliffs on the other side . It was dry- there were 100s of people out with their Dryrobes and posh coffees and cockerpoos 😏. At the midpoint of my walk it started raining- several hours earlier than predicted. I trudged along getting wetter and wetter, rain all over my glasses so I couldn't see. Nobody uses umbrellas down here, it's too windy. Got back to Popular Beach and it was deserted (apart from the surfers, I have to say). Pretty much zero "cracking on" occurring.

Goldenbear · 24/03/2024 23:39

Sorry if you’ve said but surely dependent on where you live. I live on the south coast and it has been sunny today. It was raining a hail stones yesterday but not all day. I’ve been on the South Downs today with DH and we were both just trying to catch the sun rays. It wasn’t hot but it’s March.

I was in southern Spain last year and it was 40 and way too hot, you couldn’t do anything, I hated it. The best day I had was in an art gallery as it had air con.

candlepink · 24/03/2024 23:40

I know how you feel - it is really hard. I bought a SAD alarm clock that wakes me up with a gentle “sunrise”. I also try to get outside the minute the sun comes out - even if it’s just for 10 minutes.

I don't know why you're both getting on at @EatCrow

The evidence is there that she was addressing you @MaloneMeadow so I don't see why you've reported her. She was obviously snapping back at your facetious response.

I haven’t reported her (nor have I even mentioned it) or given a facetious response. No idea what you’re talking about

StaunchMomma · 24/03/2024 23:13

Where do you live that you've had constant rain for a month?

And what's wrong with putting on on waterproofs and just cracking on? Kids love puddles.

I agree with many PPs - get your wellies on and stop moaning!

@StaunchMomma

nah! Can’t be arsed cracking on

There we have it then. Anecdote = Fact. Seems No one can crack on, we are all immobilised by rain. Except surfers it seems. The surfers will rise & prosper then. Rest of those aquaphobes you observed must return to their tumble dry domains to shelter from rain with their cockapoo
