Sick of wasting my life because of the rain

GoodnightAdeline · 24/03/2024 19:18

I don’t care how many people say ‘it was always like this..’ yes it rained a lot when I was a kid but now it does nothing BUT rain.

I swear to God out of the last 30 days we have had 1 or maybe 2 where it wasn’t fucking raining. And they’re always midweek.

I feel like all we do is sit inside going stir crazy waiting for the rain to stop. I have 2 small children and while they’re desperate to go to the park/beach, even they’re not keen in a torrential downpour with everything covered in mud.

I’m sick of all my plans being cancelled, staring out of the window at depressing grey skies and trying to figure out how to pass the weekend without spending a ton of cash on expensive (and brief) indoor activities.

It’s driving me fucking crazy and not an exaggeration to say it’s sending me into some kind of low level depression. 🍷

Your dogs walk in wellies?

Are you always so juvenile? We have a mobile paw washer - 1 minute and done.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/03/2024 22:26

Where do you live?

It's been beautiful here today, I sat out in the garden with the sun on my face this afternoon <smug> I live in the south west.

It's been beautiful here today too (eastern Scotland) however it has been far from beautiful for god knows how long previously and the forecast for the next two weeks is dismal

merryweaather · 24/03/2024 22:29

Completely agree OP.
We are in the west country where it is flooded constantly these past few
Months and rains all the fucking time, plus last summer it rained all the fucking time. And it's soul destroying trying to entertain little kids. Even DS is sick of library, swimming, soft play etc on repeat and it costs a fortune. Yes we do baking and crafts at home before anyone chips in with fun doesn't have to cost money, but preschoolers are like puppies that need to run their energy off. We have all the wet weather gear, no but it's miserable trudging through the park in the pissing cold slipping in the mud.
We moved back from abroad and I am seriously regretting that now.

how do you all cope then,the sensitive aquaphobes. Broken and unable to picnic
lacking the ability to push a pram and hold a brolly. Lashed & sodden. Unable to crack on. Incandescent at the mere mention of cracking on

You definitely kept saying ‘crack the fuck on’.

Scarletttulips · 24/03/2024 22:30

I was off work last week and as I opened the back door to grab the mop the sun did in fact appear for 3 minutes. It was warm and I remember it still existed!

Where were you then OP?

Strangely, no. I think a bit of silliness crept in for a shockingly awful couple of seconds. I did apologise immediately though. Hope that helps.

Zone2NorthLondon · 24/03/2024 22:32

sure did. I see the aquaphobes are sensitised to cracking the fuck on
all that cracking,all that on. Reminds the sensitive souls of picnics they’re not having

Eaglesqueak · 24/03/2024 22:32

I’m with you op. Back when I had three under four, I remember days when it took me over half an hour to get them togged up to go out in the rain for a walk. We’d have a soggy hour in the woods with friends, then I’d get them all back in car and go home to spend another half an hour getting the rain soaked ‘waterproofs’ and wellies off and changing them into dry clothes.

More than once I can remember thinking that had to be more to life than grey, cold days ‘making the best of it’. One day my DH came home from work and I suggested emigrating. We did and I can say that parenting where the sun shines most days is infinitely easier (for me anyway - no SAD, no wet clothes hanging around the house and fun in the pool instead of walking around in freezing wet weather).

I’m In the UK now and I swear it’s rained at least part of every day since I got here a month ago! I still love coming back, but I know I couldn’t live here again.

Heartofglass12345 · 24/03/2024 22:32

I'm with you, I hate it! I'm in Wales and we've had so much rain the past few months, it's been miserable.
I hate wearing big coats and dressing for it. much rather be in a vest top lol

DragonScreeches · 24/03/2024 22:35

Try being a wheelchair user or a walker user or a crutches user in the endless lashing rain @Zone2NorthLondon. It is no fun.

TeaPotPetPig · 24/03/2024 22:35

The rain and mud has seemed pretty constant this winter. Although I remember longing for this weather, the rain and cool, the summer before last when it hit 35+ degrees here.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 24/03/2024 22:36

Totally agree, also in Wales. It was dry today by some miracle. Looks dreadful for the full Easter fortnight apart from that. Have a 3 year old and a baby. 3 year old has lived in her puddle suit since December.

We try and get out in the dry spells but it's hard to plan anything. I can see from my Facebook memories that in previous years it's been much drier and warmer this time of year.

I will remind people of this thread when people are on here in September, wanking on about “cosy evenings and wearing boots” 🤪

@chillidoritto

urgh yeah and lighting the candles and wearing fluffy socks and hot chocs and getting all cosy with “my little family”. Not everyone wants to hibernate!!

35+ degrees is not nice, but honestly I would prefer that to the endless rain.

In 2020, the weather at this time was lovely. it made lockdown more bearable.

@Zone2NorthLondon

we all do crack on

nooone is phoning in sick cos of the pissy rain or whatever

but the weather is shit. There is no pleasure in walking around in gale force winds and rain. It’s shit having to wear the same kinds of clothes all the time. Etc etc. it’s shit and people are allowed to say it! Soz

Have not said using a walking aide or wheelchair in rain is fun? What’s your point
we have the weather we have and we adjust & accommodate. in rain,snow,ice those with mobility issues are impacted and safety is compromised. But, in general folk still have to keep on in the rain.

It doesn’t have to be either extreme does it? A few posters have mentioned that hot week two years ago. (In the uk).

ReadingSoManyThreads · 24/03/2024 22:20

Jeez YABU, as my mother says about going out in rain "you won't dissolve".

I love the rain, I'm from a very rainy part of the UK, so was always used to it and unbothered by it. We still stay on the beach if it starts to rain.

Although, we don't wear waterproofs, as they're not my cuppa tea, so I just change clothes when we get home.

I love doing my daily walk when it's raining because there's usually no one else out, I live in England now and the area I'm in, people seem to be allergic to the rain, but that's fine by me as it means I have the lovely park to myself!

Heatwaves are a different story, I can't stand the heat!!

@ReadingSoManyThreads

what about your hair?

Helpisso · 24/03/2024 22:41

OP ignore all the sarcasm. I agree,the weather has been awful for months! The potholes confirm it ! Not sure what the answer is though. Hopefully it will improve soon . Am so glad I haven’t got young children to entertain and it has been wetter than I can remember when my lot were little!

@Zone2NorthLondon

i think that poster will be keeping on and cracking on as you like to say. But the rain makes it harder for her to do so. And she is entitled to say that. Just in the same way that people who have prams and have to walk pushing pram and holding brolly at same time will find it harder than on a lovely dry day.

I don’t know what your issue is with that?

EatCrow · 24/03/2024 22:43

DragonScreeches · 24/03/2024 22:39

It was lovely and that time stands out as the last time we had a good summer.

Zone2NorthLondon · 24/03/2024 22:44

Soz,what? I have not demanded no one mention the rain, dare not speak of rain
ive stated the obvious. It rains, life goes on. We are overall expected to get on with it
wanting to picnic in Autumn & winter? Tad unrealistic.

Oh how I miss 2020 spring and summer - it was glorious and lockdown gave those of us fortunate enough to be at home the chance to bask in it. It was amazing

My point is, not everyone has the ability to simply "crack on" when it is endlessly fucking pissing down.
