To think using paper plates is the height of lazy.

I keep seeing reels and videos of people, mostly (if not all) Americans serving up dinner on either polystyrene plates or paper plates.

AIBU to think that’s laziness/time saving/convenience too far? Most videos these people have decent kitchens so presumably can house a dishwasher. Not that hard, nor time consuming to stack plates.

Disposable tableware for day to day dining seems the height of laziness.

Can't believe people on here are having a proper full blown argument about paper plates 😂

It’s a symptom.

Seems odd to me to use paper plates at home and I wince at the common use in the US. Plus it is worse for the environment as any fool knows. Washing a plate is the easy part of washing up.

Can they just make paper plates that are actually paper then? They need to take all this pointless plastic out of things. We did it with straws and that has worked out very well.

They do make ones that are biodegradable, those are the ones I use, and then I throw them in the composter afterwards. No landfill, no waste, it's fine.

Doesn't stop me being the devil himself who is single handedly destroying the world though apparently.

Are you a bit thick? What exactly do you think stops the juices and fat from penetrating the paper and leaking out?

Probably a similar experience to you responding to this thread.

That’s not an answer.

It doesn’t affect your life one tiny little bit.

I think you just like to bitch. And today’s bitch is “Americans who use paper plates are lazy.”
Not English, not Scottish or Welsh or Australian - American. lol
Can’t wait for tomorrow’s “Americans who use…” edition.

Paper straws are rubbish though. One long suck and they collapse.

Even without the environmental factor I would get a huge ick from being served food on a paper plate at anything other than a large bbq / buffet style party.

I don’t care if it makes me judgy. It’s a much nicer dining experience to have proper cutlery + crockery. No amount of ‘time saving’ justifies being lazy to me.

Moreorlessmentallystable · 25/03/2024 19:54

Most of my cousins that live in the USA use one single use cutlery, cups and plates, sometimes not even paper, but those horrendous big red plastic cups you see in movies being used at frat parties. And meanwhile us suckers are here washing the recycling and composting organic waste 😂

Yes I find paper plates a bit irritating to eat from. I would find it odd to be served a full on roast or something.

Then they tend to go mushy. In any case, they're too big to go down the sewers and will be contaminated by food so have to go in the landfill, where they will degrade without access to oxygen, generating methane, a GHG.

Indeed, I can't understand why people would dream of using them when entertaining a guest - isn't that when you most want to make an effort? As for restaurants, even greasy spoons in the UK universally use proper plates. If I sat down in a restaurant and was served food on paper plates I'd wonder if their KPs were on strike.
