To not want a KFC after a 2 hour hike??

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:26

Went on a 2 hour hike today with 3 kids had to carry 1 year old DC most of the way. I was happy to go home and cook something. DH and BIL come up with the wonderful idea of KFC and when I say I don’t fancy it they make me out to be an issue calling me difficult.

Ive lost 2 stone and they keep saying to me oh you’ve changed you’re not the same person you use to be blardy blah. I still love food but I’m not going to walk for hours and then finish on something greasy!!! aibu?

OP posts:

Even if she had called the food greasy, that’s factually correct, not in the slightest bit judgey. KFC is greasy.

Calling it crap seems true too, although obviously could come off as judgey.

It doesn’t seem like OP said anything other than she didn’t fancy it to them before they started telling her she was no fun though.

So you would sit next to a work colleague and say 'wow, your lunch looks greasy!' and think that that was fine because it is factually correct?

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 24/03/2024 21:17

Don't feel bad op - if you were a non smoker and someone offered you a cigarette, you wouldn't feel bad saying no so it should ne the same. I hate KFC, Mcdonald's and Burger King etc so wouldn't eat it either

HeadNorth · 24/03/2024 21:22

I don’t blame you OP, I could never fancy food that was served in a ‘bucket’ - yuck. Most fast food is grim as, I don’t understand why it is seen as a treat to eat fried cheap meat in a bucket.

SabreIsMyFave · 24/03/2024 22:11

YABU @Amidepressedorlazy . Just go to KFC and have a mineral water! No-one is forcing you to eat what you don't want to eat. Even so, just because you've lost weight, that doesn't mean you have to live on dust and lettuce leaves forevermore.

Poor analogy. Someone giving up smoking will not have a cigarette again. People still eat food even after losing weight!

ironorchids · 24/03/2024 22:14

Sounds like you're moving on from the unhealthy lifestyle and they're happy to stay in it. So yes you've changed, in a good way, and they don't like that so seem intent on sabotaging you rather than accept that what you're doing is actually better for you and a better example for your kids.

chuggachug · 24/03/2024 22:22

@ViaMargutta

If you don't do this, just say that you don't fancy something - then you're good, OP and they're unreasonable.

Which is exactly what OP did. And rather than just enjoy their food and let the OP wait until she got home they tried to shame her for making healthy choices

ReadingSoManyThreads · 24/03/2024 22:24

YANBU, I wouldn't have wanted greasy KFC after a healthy hike either.

The rest of your family could have had a KFC, then you eat a healthy meal at home.

Well done on the weight loss!

Works for me - personal choice to eat or not eat something and yet others still try and encourage you even if you have said no. And some ex smokers do take the habit up again.

Rubbish, a hike can be as short as three miles. It doesn't have to be a full day of walking.

It can, but that would be a short hike. Like a 2 hr hike is a short hike.

I (M59) was once 3 stones heavier. No way will I ever eat something like KFC for the rest of my life! I have only bought KFC once, many years ago. It was gross so I gave it to seagulls who wouldn’t eat it either!

Loads and loads of people eat KFC!

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:33

That’s when they started with the your not the same person you use to be your not fun anymore.

So your husband, the person who is supposed to love and support you, is trying to sabotage your healthy eating and weight loss? I would have a private conversation with him about how disrespectful this is. If he doesn't back off he can then fuck off.

Rafting2022 · 24/03/2024 17:01

I don’t consider 2 hours a big hike.

well, aren't you an amazing person.

Chocochick · 25/03/2024 00:34

I’m with you on this and if their idea of being fun is having KFC, they are the ones with a problem on my opinion. It’s not just that it is “unhealthy”, which is ok now and again, but it’s utterly shite so they should check their own tastes before judging you!

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 25/03/2024 00:41

You just need to ignore him or tell him its bothering you. It's not a big deal to not want a KFC

But now I want a KFC so badly 😓

To some.

But if you're in Scotland or Wales and going up somewhere rugged and hilly, then a 2 hour hike could be an extremely long and challenging one.

penjil · 25/03/2024 02:22

Just leaving this here......

Soon to come to a hiking route near you. 😂

But it's OK, you don't HAVE to order anything, even if others do. 👍

YANBU OP. They should have ate what they liked but accepted you didn’t want the same.

Hopefully a work colleague would accept someone saying no to the food offered and wouldn’t tell them that they were no fun for refusing, unlike OPs husband and BIL. If they didn’t take no for an answer, personally I’d tell them why I didn’t want their food. If they’re offended, tough, they should learn not to be pushy and stop telling people they’re no fun. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t even feed my horses in buckets. They have proper feeding skips!

And many of them are unhealthy.

Hoppinggreen · 25/03/2024 13:05

If not eating KFC makes you no fun then I am no fun as well. Just the smell makes me feel sick.
And no, I am not full after a grape and half of a massive salad but I dont eat fast food

Why might this have been deleted? Is someone from KFC a moderator here?

Noyesnoyes · 25/03/2024 13:10

@Teledeluxe and many of them are not, just because you and the seagulls you were hanging out with didn't like the KFC, doesn't mean other people can't enjoy it? I mean it's fairly self evident based on the success of the chain that it's a very popular choice.
