To not want a KFC after a 2 hour hike??

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:26

Went on a 2 hour hike today with 3 kids had to carry 1 year old DC most of the way. I was happy to go home and cook something. DH and BIL come up with the wonderful idea of KFC and when I say I don’t fancy it they make me out to be an issue calling me difficult.

Ive lost 2 stone and they keep saying to me oh you’ve changed you’re not the same person you use to be blardy blah. I still love food but I’m not going to walk for hours and then finish on something greasy!!! aibu?

OP posts:

It was a tough hike and I felt amazing after! The last thing I wanted was to put crap in my body. Anyway those 2 had KFC party bucket to themselves. Even the kids didn’t fancy it!

I wonder did they feel judged by you? In all of your posts you are at great pains to tell everyone how greasy and crap you think KFC is, did you do the same with them?

soupfiend · 24/03/2024 17:09

PaminaMozart · 24/03/2024 17:06

None of OP's posts suggest that she referred to KFC* as crap or criticized their choice.

  • Even though it clearly is. But also very addictive - it’s designed to be! Which is where the willpower comes in.

That suggests they need to avoid it though and didnt have the willpower to

Why do they need to avoid it?

🙄

If we're talking about an actual hike, then no 2 hrs isn't a long time. A hike is like a mountain/hill. It's a days walking. For that sort of walk 2 hrs is pretty short.

easylikeasundaymorn · 24/03/2024 17:13

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:33

That’s when they started with the your not the same person you use to be your not fun anymore.

Maybe you could have just joined in with the banter and said 'wow, you guys need a life if your idea of fun is going to KFC. Maybe for your birthday we can go to Greggs, or is that too wild for even you mad lads?' Stupid but it makes the point that they are being ridiculous by equating a polite refusal of food you don't fancy as indicative of your personality.
Like it or hate it, it's a fast food restaurant, not exactly a wild party.
Surely most people would describe it (and any other fast food place) as tasty convenient, affordable, etc...but fun?

That's assuming you did just say 'No thanks, I don't fancy it, you go and I'll sort myself out after,' and didn't do the whole 'no why would I eat that muck? What's the point in going for a walk if you're just going to eat greasy crap afterwards? You're having a WHOLE bucket?' etc. in which case, fair enough for them to throw it back at you.

I don’t consider 2 hours a big hike.

Well done

Nonsense, it means a long walk, usually over difficult or rough terrain, it doesnt have to be all day at all

Rubbish, a hike can be as short as three miles. It doesn't have to be a full day of walking.

It's amazing how deliberately obtuse thick sone posters can be! Of course there's a connection between exercising and not wanting to eat junk food! And kfc can hardly be described as a healthy option.

OP when one person lose weight and gets healthier, it often leads to issues with others, who don't have to ability/will to do it themselves but get resentful and jealous. And they pass it off as "you're no fun any more". But really they just feel bad about their own choices and your decision to not have kfc, just highlights their own issues.

Some of the people like your h and bil are on this thread.
Not much you can do except continue to be true to your own aims and font let them drag you back!

KFC used to do a rice box approved by Slimming World. Don't they still?

They do indeed! I love them! Under 600cals too.
https://www.kfc.co.uk/zinger-ricebox-drink-under-600kcal or a salad box for under 400 cals

Thick?

Im merely questioning why the questioning by OPs partner has anything to do with the hike

If it is NOT suprising that she doesnt want KFC after a hike, then ergo it WOULD be surprising that she doesnt want KFC after a day slouching on the sofa

Except it wouldnt be surprising would it? She doesnt want it because she isnt eating that sort of thing/doesnt want it/doesnt have to justify it

Hike or no hike

You're just rude.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 24/03/2024 17:50

Were you making a big deal about them eating a KFC?
Making comments like "Why do you want greasy food?"
"I've just been for a walk, that's so unhealthy now"

Cause I can see why they'd get annoyed

penjil · 24/03/2024 17:55

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:35

I love rice boxes! But I didn’t fancy one and they were getting a party bucket. It’s too greasy for me.

Yes, we understand you don't want grease, you've said it enough times.

Either get a rice box, a chicken salad, or nothing and have something at home.

It's really not difficult, it's a dilemma a 12 year old would have, not a grown woman.

🙄

nameXname · 24/03/2024 18:04

Two things:

  • IF I ate chicken - which I don't - I'd want to know that it was reared and killed in the best possible way. KFC disputes this, but it's pretty horrifying:
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/apr/12/kfc-faces-backlash-over-misleading-portrayal-of-chicken-farming-niko-omilana
  • As someone who does do hikes - and Hi, OP, good to 'meet' another walker - what I - and I am sure others - actually experience on a walk or soon after is thirst, not hunger. I find I like lots of water and hot black coffee. Food comes later, and easily be satisfied by something like a good old sandwich or a snack of eg cheese and sliced apple carried with me. What I like best - and I know this is odd, but it gives a great energy boost - is a cold omelette made with just a little bit of olive oil and generously dusted in black pepper. Wrapped in the cheapest foil, it keeps warm for quite some time. To be fancy, all kinds of fresh herbs can be added to it, plus grated cheese if that floats your boat.

You do sound like a kill-joy based on the posts in this thread.
Add a post about how the only thing that can pass your lips is celery because anything with over 5 calories is just disgusting, and you'd get a gold star for being a true Mumsnet user.

Except in her OP, she says that she only said she didn’t fancy it. They wouldn’t accept that.

And in her subsequent posts she goes on about it being greasy etc

Which does make you wonder what more she may have said to them

nameXname · 24/03/2024 18:29

I'm really rather astonished at the number of people on this thread who want to eat chickens that have lived in pain and died in even greater suffering. (And yes, I did use to keep chickens - they are the most engaging pets and lay really tasty eggs - but the local wildlife got at them. After it happened two or three times, we very sadly decided that it was kindest not to keep them.)

You -or rather your family members - do you, of course. But it's not, for heaven's sake - as if KFC are a gourmet experience. Lots and lots of other low/med/high cal alternatives are available.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 24/03/2024 18:31

why was it YOU that carried dc ?

PinkyFlamingo · 24/03/2024 18:35

You sound so judgemental about them eating "greasy food".

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 24/03/2024 18:36

I’m with you op, it’s shit. I wouldn’t fancy it either.

Justgorgeous · 24/03/2024 18:38

@Commonsense22 Is KFC comfort food ? Would most people crave a load of ultra processed shite after a two hour hike. I know I wouldn’t. OP, well done you for losing 2 stone, that’s incredible.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 24/03/2024 18:28

There’s absolutely nothing in OPs posts to say that she said it TO her DH and BIL. People are assuming.

People get weird on food threads.

TempleOfBloom · 24/03/2024 18:41

There are chicken salad and rice box meals at under 400 Cals
https://www.kfc.co.uk/nutrition-allergens?close

They really fancied KFC, not really fair of you to veto it for them. They could have picked it up and taken it home where you made something you fancied for yourself.

JMSA · 24/03/2024 18:41

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:33

To be fair to you OP, I'd question their definition of fun, if it's going on a 2 hour hike with 3 kids.
