To not want a KFC after a 2 hour hike??

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:26

Went on a 2 hour hike today with 3 kids had to carry 1 year old DC most of the way. I was happy to go home and cook something. DH and BIL come up with the wonderful idea of KFC and when I say I don’t fancy it they make me out to be an issue calling me difficult.

Ive lost 2 stone and they keep saying to me oh you’ve changed you’re not the same person you use to be blardy blah. I still love food but I’m not going to walk for hours and then finish on something greasy!!! aibu?

I'm a dieting healthy eating vegetarian bore. I don't begrudge anyone else eating greasy dead animals though, and wouldn't have minded going to KFC with them, I'd have just had a coffee.

Why should OP go to KFC with them to watch them eat?!

Presumably because she didn't want to undo all her hard work hiking by then eating unhealthily so therefore, it is relevant

Ok, Im not sure its relevant to the issue really, she felt badgered (it seems) into having something she didnt want. Why and what she did before this, is a bit irrelevant.

Anyway, it was just a query

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 24/03/2024 16:46

People like to drag others down when they think their own decisions could be judged. This is why people get harangued for not drinking alcohol or being vegetarian. It says more about them and their own insecurities than you.

I'm sure there's more to your personality than a bucket of breaded chicken.

craigth162 · 24/03/2024 16:47

Yanbu - kfc is rank

It was a tough hike and I felt amazing after! The last thing I wanted was to put crap in my body. Anyway those 2 had KFC party bucket to themselves. Even the kids didn’t fancy it!

But couldn't you order the rice box yourself?

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 24/03/2024 16:52

It's always disappointing when you don't feel supported by your partner. Do you think you were coming across as judgemental or was he just being a jerk?

I don't like fast food much either but I'll get a drink or maybe small fries if I'm with people who want to go.

BuyingTheHills · 24/03/2024 16:52

How does eating KFC equal being fun? 🤷🏻‍♀️I’d tell them to STFU, they can eat what they and you’ll do the same.

Is their attitude a one off or has DH been unhappy that you’ve lost weight and says these sorts of things often? Is he generally supportive of you?

She’s already said that she didn’t fancy one.

I think the problem is you might have said things like 'you're putting crap in your body/greasy food' and that does sound like you're sucking out their joy of what they want

Its ok just to say, not for me today thanks. You dont have to judge what their choice is

Another poster mentioned that they might be 'jealous' that they dont have the willpower you have, but that doesnt really make sense unless theres a reason they need to exercise willpower around KFC, theres nothing wrong with eating KFC.

Of course it’s relevant. People not wanting to eat junk food after going to the gym for example is a common phenomenon. It’s really not surprising at all.

Rafting2022 · 24/03/2024 17:01

I don’t consider 2 hours a big hike.

"i fancy a KFC" said Bob,
"Go for it" said Brenda, "I'll wait till we get.home"
"Are you sure?" Asks Dave,
"Yeah, I don't fancy it is all."

And the three went on with their lives.

🤣

itsgettingweird · 24/03/2024 17:03

Fwiw I can't eat kfc so I'd have had a drink only and cooked at home.

But I'd have been annoyed at the "not fun anymore comments" over my choice (though it's not a choice for me) of food.

Did they mean fun over food or is there more to this?

Is for me! I’ve been a couch potato most of my life

Couldn’t they have eaten it and then you cooked at home?

I don’t see the connection between walking and eating something greasy but if you didn’t want to eat it you shouldn’t - but you shouldn’t have stopped them either

Have the rice box (with chicken in not just veg) its about 500 calories & still filling.

They are being judged though. OP is quite clear that her issue wasn't she didn't want KFC but that she would be putting crap in her body

Oh bloody hell of course it is, its between 6 and 8 miles, thats a huge distance

I didnt say it was surprising. But its not relevant to their haranguing her (if indeed they did)

None of OP's posts suggest that she referred to KFC* as crap or criticized their choice.

  • Even though it clearly is. But also very addictive - it’s designed to be! Which is where the willpower comes in.

Because she’s sharing a car with one of them, presumably

ThreeTreeHill · 24/03/2024 17:07

If you don't want a KFC don't have a KFC. Just say you don't fancy it and you'll cook something for yourself at home

But I really don't see the connection bettween a KFC and a hike.
