To not want a KFC after a 2 hour hike??

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:26

Went on a 2 hour hike today with 3 kids had to carry 1 year old DC most of the way. I was happy to go home and cook something. DH and BIL come up with the wonderful idea of KFC and when I say I don’t fancy it they make me out to be an issue calling me difficult.

Ive lost 2 stone and they keep saying to me oh you’ve changed you’re not the same person you use to be blardy blah. I still love food but I’m not going to walk for hours and then finish on something greasy!!! aibu?

I'm really rather astonished at the number of people on this thread who want to eat chickens that have lived in pain and died in even greater suffering. (And yes, I did use to keep chickens - they are the most engaging pets and lay really tasty eggs - but the local wildlife got at them. After it happened two or three times, we very sadly decided that it was kindest not to keep them.)

You -or rather your family members - do you, of course. But it's not, for heaven's sake - as if KFC are a gourmet experience. Lots and lots of other low/med/high cal alternatives are available.

Yes, this.

if people thought a bit more about their food, then the NHS would be under less stress, the planet would be in better shape and fewer animals would suffer.

There are chicken salad and rice box meals at under 400 Cals

They really fancied KFC, not really fair of you to veto it for them. They could have picked it up and taken it home where you made something you fancied for yourself.

Have you read OPs posts?

She said she didn’t fancy a rice box.

She didn’t veto it. She told them to have it and she’d make something for herself.

LadyKenya · 24/03/2024 19:06

More fool them, if they think that eating low grade, oily chicken is good.

BuyingTheHills · 24/03/2024 18:40

There’s absolutely nothing in OPs posts to say that she said it TO her DH and BIL. People are assuming.

People get weird on food threads.

People get weird on food thread.

Many people don't seem to be able to comprehend that switching to a healthy lifestyle can totally reset one's cravings.

UPF, sugar and refined are addictive, but cutting them out can absolutely lead to a mindset where stuff like KFC and BigMacs etc can become repulsive, and even sweet things - other than chocolate and icecream, sadly... - lose their compulsive attraction

Geekylover · 24/03/2024 19:26

Well done on losing the weight and the hike. I would feel the same. They can eat kfc but you should be congratulated on losing weight and being disciplined. Hope you enjoyed your healthy meal

grinandslothit · 24/03/2024 19:52

Well done on losing the weight and for accomplishing the hike!

I completely understand not wanting to eat heavy greasy food afterward. I find food pushers annoying, which is why I never tell anyone anymore that I am dieting because as soon as you mention something, somebody starts pestering for you to eat something.

I don't think people were saying to just eat the chicken though were they? OP can do what she likes, like I said earlier I opt out of fast food and just eat at home. I don't comment on other people's food choices though, I don't call their food 'greasy' or ' crap' or anything else, that's just rude. I don't make people feel bad for the choices that they make, it's up to them what they put in their body. I just say you go ahead, I'll get something later. The OPs post smacks of looking down on the choice of her husband and BIL, I'm not sure if the OP has clarified yet whether she had that attitude towards them in person before they started talking about her being 'no fun'?

It's great that the OP has transformed her lifestyle but like a reformed smoker nobody else is interested in listening to you preach. It's lovely that you have just discovered the joys of a healthy lifestyle but it really is tedious for those around to listen to it, especially when you put down the lifestyle they choose to live like you weren't doing it for years.

BuyingTheHills · 24/03/2024 20:14

Even if she had called the food greasy, that’s factually correct, not in the slightest bit judgey. KFC is greasy.

Calling it crap seems true too, although obviously could come off as judgey.

It doesn’t seem like OP said anything other than she didn’t fancy it to them before they started telling her she was no fun though.

Münchner · 24/03/2024 20:18

The only good thing about KFC is that the toilets are usually clean. I'd have partaken in it, eaten half a drumstick and made myself something decent later on after everyone's left. Still, they're proper annoying with their carry on about 'you're not the same person you used to be' etc. geez, everyone should just be free to eat what they want.

MamaGhina · 24/03/2024 20:21

A 2hr hike with a 1yo? Bonkers.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 24/03/2024 20:22

Amidepressedorlazy · 24/03/2024 16:33

That’s when they started with the your not the same person you use to be your not fun anymore.

This often happens when people make healthy changes - the people that know them for a long time feel threatened by the change so make fun of it. Your dh may be worried you'll leave him for a sexy personal trainer or something. It also makes them feel worse about their own unhealthy choices. You need to learn to drown out what they say.

"KFC | Our Menu | Riceboxes & Salads" https://www.kfc.co.uk/our-menu/ricebox

Yes they do and very tasty they are

Wow - I never knew that! Thanks for posting

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 24/03/2024 20:25

StellaLaBella · 24/03/2024 16:37

Presumably because she didn't want to undo all her hard work hiking by then eating unhealthily so therefore, it is relevant

Oh - I thought it meant they were famished and KFC would be quick and tasty (and sort of that they 'deserved' it)

Epidote · 24/03/2024 20:27

There are rice boxes and salad boxes in KFC too, all under 600 kcal, OP, you don't have to munch a full family bucket. Also you are entitled to cook once at home if that is what you want, but if they fancied a fast food I would gladly go with them and eat my own stuff after o grab a very expensive box of leaves form there. Rather the first one, they are very expensive boxes of leaves.

SarahAndQuack · 24/03/2024 20:27

What makes it a 'hike' not a walk? I would think of a hike as being long and strenuous.

That said, I think it's totally fair to eat what you want to eat afterwards, and they were being rude to be so pushy.

chuggachug · 24/03/2024 20:28

Commonsense22 · 24/03/2024 16:28

You didn't have to eat the KFC but denying them that was pretty rubbish. The vast majority of people would crave comfort food after that effort and expecting people to wait whilst you drove home and cooked was unreasonable. And pretty selfish IMO.

How selfish. Offering to cook something homemade and healthy.

Who the hell wants KFC? Nasty processed salt laden crap.

Yep - I wonder if this may be closer to the truth 🤔

toomanyy · 24/03/2024 16:43

Not sure why posters are telling you what to do OP. I think you have the common sense to figure out yourself that the men can have KFC if they want.

YANBU, I suspect they’re judgemental of your healthy eating as they don’t have the same willpower but only you know why they’re like this.

Don’t let their harping on put you off the healthy eating. I’ve lost 2 stones as well and people are always trying to make me eat cakes, chocolates even though I have politely said no thanks.

Really? Why would people do that?
🧐

chuggachug · 24/03/2024 20:31

Mushroo · 24/03/2024 16:31

YABU - you didnt have to eat KFC but stopping your DH and BIL having it is a bit harsh. In a situation like that you go with the majority (and comfort food after a big hike sounds great)

She didn't stop them. You think forcing her to endure something she didn't want is normal behaviour?

Wow. Raise your bar.

The only crap behaviour here is the blokes having a problem with OP not eating. She was happy to wait until she got home but for some reason this was not good enough for them.

Why on earth to people harangue other people for not wanting something.

chuggachug · 24/03/2024 20:28

Well - given that KFC sells 14 million pieces of chicken per week in the UK (so around 700 million pieces a year), I would say quite a few 😂

HesterPrincess · 24/03/2024 20:39

Thing is, once you've been healthy eating and have got used to a change in lifestyle, the last thing you want to do is wreck it with processed crap. I'm type 2 diabetic and can't tolerate a lot of carbs these days as well as being vegetarian so I find zero pleasure in fast food/takeaway and prefer to cook myself. I understand what you mean.

ObliviousCoalmine · 24/03/2024 20:42

When does a walk become a hike?

Teledeluxe · 24/03/2024 20:42

I (M59) was once 3 stones heavier. No way will I ever eat something like KFC for the rest of my life! I have only bought KFC once, many years ago. It was gross so I gave it to seagulls who wouldn’t eat it either!

She didn't veto anything. They had their KFC. She didn't fancy a rice box. She didn't say anything to them about it being greasy etc. They started goading her saying she was no fun because she wasn't having any.
You would know all this if you bothered to read the OPs posts rather than making it up in your head.

Hahaha, love posts like that. Yea, seriously, just WHO THE HELL wants KFC???? You know, other than those millions of people worldwide who go there everyday?

As for OP. No one likes a reformed smoker, drinker or fatty. The pontificator. Who munched on big macs with gusto a few months ago and now scrunches their face into shit-biting expression as soon as someone even mentions it. What?? THAT disgusting smelly, greasy, salty crap??? I would NEVER!

And bangs on about keto/shmeto, carbs, UPF, etc non-stop.

If you don't do this, just say that you don't fancy something - then you're good, OP and they're unreasonable.
