Waitrose Easter Eggs

AIBU in expecting to pay £11 for these Easter eggs in my local store in Stratford upon Avon? According to the manager and supervisor I am being not only unreasonable but proper stupid because I didn’t read the small print which says the price depends on the weight. The eggs on the display are the extra big ones and cost £15. Silly me! I gave them back their eggs together with quite a large piece of my mind which may result in me being banned in future. But honestly, isn’t it a gigantic con?

It is a lukewarm response, CotswoldsMum, they could have done better and there's no excuse really. I think that Waitrose has slid from high-end in the last couple of years and I'm really not surprised.

I'm glad that you've taken this up and yes, Trading Standards is the next step if you're prepared to do that. The posters saying it's not a massive deal are really missing the point. This was and is deceptive and sharp practice ad it's the customers who suffer.

Thanks from me anyway! Star

I think some people just like to go against the grain. You could always just, you know, not post on the thread.

Anyway, I think the OP is right to be annoyed. Waitrose is supposed to offer a level of customer service that you don't see in Tesco. I see nothing disingenuous about her concerns either.

Waitrose is my local supermarket and I bought an expensive moisturiser once, which was labelled half price but the offer label had expired. I was going to just put it back but the staff insisted on honouring the discount for me and I appreciated it.

Customer service is important.

I don't think anyone (me being one of them) saying it's not a big deal is missing the point. It's hardly a difficult point to understand. Maybe we just have more important things in our lives to worry about than a rogue store manager mislabelling some Easter eggs in Waitrose.

Oh god yes the adverts are annoying. Fuck off Tesco, I'm not your fucking mate

Boots do it too. Have a shelf ticket for one size of shampoo/soap/toothpaste, put a different size of the same brand there that costs more. Then when you query it they say "oh, did you think you were buying the 300ml bottle? That's the one that costs £4. The one you've picked up is 330 ml and that costs £7". Fucking chancers.

I’m so glad I found this thread because this happened to me in Superdrug the other day and I went back to the shelf and I just couldn’t get my head around how I’d ended up paying more and the woman said the price was right. It made me feel stupid and I left still paying it. I now understand what happened! Thank you, I shall be watching more closely from now on!

Carenz · 25/03/2024 22:06

And don’t be made to feel daft for complaining OP! I listened to Jennie Bond talking about how she always complains if the service is shit because we shouldn’t have to put up with it and it made me think about being more assertive with big businesses now.

You have a fair point. I have acknowledged that and hope I haven’t given the wrong impression. Fully aware that there are more urgent issues for many of us. Hopefully it has highlighted the widespread use of misleading pricing structures in our supermarkets. It’s up to the individual consumer to decide if they want to do anything with that knowledge.

Yet here you are, spouting off on a non-important thread. Maybe you just wanted to put the OP in her place? You failed.

Then what are you doing on this thread? Go talk about a bigger deal.

HauntedBungalow · 26/03/2024 15:29

Thanks for the update @Cotswoldmum70 . It's not much of a reply is it? Doesn't say what the policy is on mis-pricing. I mean, I'm sure they'll have one. @Carenz you do have to be really careful. It's tiresome. Things are bad enough money wise with prices jumping all over the place, without it being unclear which product a particular price refers to.

Yes and more fatting then an actual regular bar of chocolate due to the oil used to make the egg shape.
