Hands up: do you chuck rubbish out of your car window?

My city is having its annual big litter picking weekend. Hundred of volunteers clearing their local areas and placing full bags near bins for the council to collect. It's fabulous😊.

My "picking" area tends to be heavy traffic and it's clear most of the litter is food and drink related and thrown from car windows when drivers are waiting at traffic lights.

I am quite interested to know who does this and why (someone must!). It's not dropped by accident and there will surely be an easy to use bin when you leave your car? Posted for traffic and the mix of opinions.

I tend to have a positive mind set when volunteering..no point getting too angry about litterers - I just hope one day, someone spots a windswept middle aged woman clearing the roads and decides to change their behaviour!

Definitely not. What sort of pig does that?

whyismysoupcold · 23/03/2024 19:03

Sounds disgusting, but I pick my nose and flick it out the window.

Other than that, I would never, ever throw anything out of the window or litter in general. I wouldn't be friends with anybody who did, either. It's the most revolting thing.

Gettingonmygoat · 23/03/2024 19:03

I live in a rural area and the amount of litter on the roadside gives me the rage.

Shityshitybangbang · 23/03/2024 19:09

Maybe flick the odd bogie lol 😂

MoonWoman69 · 23/03/2024 19:20

I was always taught as a very young child to put litter in my pocket and take it home. Which I always have done. I am a smoker, but I carry an old tin, lined with foil in my pocket or handbag, so when I'm out on the motorbike or driving, I use that and dispose of the contents if we pass a bin or back home.
It galls me to see fast food rubbish dumped all over. When we were out and about on the motorbike last summer, we used to pass literally hundreds of those little silver gas canisters, at the side of the road and in lay-bys, in the middle of nowhere. It sickened me to think people were chugging that, then driving around high. Disgusting.

Twatneighbours · 23/03/2024 19:23

Nope never can't abide people that litter.

Eaterysarnie · 23/03/2024 19:23

No never.
But my relative did throw out millions of cigarette butts over the years.

I saw a pedestrian chuck a drinks carton.
I would chuck fruit.

But walking a few weeks ago a passenger threw an apple core 2ft in front of me onto the pavement. He was a workman.

Other litterers are generally teen kids at the park. They leave it 3m from the bin!!
Although actually it could be men supporting the local football team. A few times glass covering the kids playground

JerkintheMerkin · 23/03/2024 19:24

No. When waiting at traffic lights on A roads I always look at the litter by the side and just think "why?". It looks so bad.

Waggytail · 23/03/2024 19:27

Oh my god NO and anyone who does it is scum of the earth

coldcallerbaiter · 23/03/2024 19:27

Never, the ones that do are disgusting and should be imprisoned or fined and also made to pick up litter.

AngeloMysterioso · 23/03/2024 19:30

Nope. I keep a roll of small bin bags in my car for rubbish.

suburburban · 23/03/2024 19:32

Also the amount of packaging and plastic bottles that should be recycled rather than put in general waste

Yesyoucant · 23/03/2024 19:36

Nope, and that's why my car is always a shit tip! Go mad once a week and fill the recycling....littering is so unnecessary.

Lemoncokezero · 23/03/2024 19:36

ADHDGURL · 23/03/2024 16:56

No, never my car interior pays the price..but I'd never consider it

Same with my car interior 😣

Alargeoneplease89 · 23/03/2024 19:37

Never, feels so unnatural to litter. I cant comprehend the mindset

theduchessofspork · 23/03/2024 19:39

No, bloody hell..

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/03/2024 19:48

No but I recently caught a man parked in my road throwing a sandwich wrapper and coke bottle out of his car onto a grass verge. I live semi rurally and we all do our bit to keep it nice. We have a lot of wildlife too. I went up to his car and said "are you going to pick that up" expecting a load of verbal but he actually got out of the car and apologised. He did pick it up and take it with him. It's not hard is it? Same as people who walk through the woods and fields and hang full dog poo bags on them. Why the fuck would you do that?

HulaChick · 23/03/2024 19:49

No I bloody don't!

oldestboy · 23/03/2024 19:53

Ive noticed near me we seem to have regular litterers who throw things out of the window day in day out and it just builds up. One of definitely a carer as it used to be masks thrown out of the car and gloves and now it just tends to be gloves. Also loads comes from young people who just drop their snack wrappers and drink bottles where they’re stood.

I honestly think there is a split in society between normal decent people and people who litter.

ScierraDoll · 23/03/2024 19:53

I hate littering. It's the one thing that sets us apart from most European countries. Our streets are dirty and it is a reflection of an attitude that its someone eles job to clean up after us

Meadowfinch · 23/03/2024 19:55

I know one family who do - or rather a group of people in a car. A blue BMW 318i estate to be precise.

Drives past my house every Friday night and throws their McDonalds wrappers in my gateway. It does my head in. I am so sick of it. What is wrong with people? Their houses must be disgusting.

Findthebestway · 23/03/2024 19:56

Been out on the m6 and m1 today. This country is disgusting

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 23/03/2024 19:56

Rubbish? Absolutely never. But I've probably thrown an apple core into a hedge on a country road.

Katemax82 · 23/03/2024 19:57

Absolutely not it makes my blood boil

DancefloorAcrobatics · 23/03/2024 20:00

😁 my ex once threw some McDonald wrappers back into the car. The guy thanked us with some effing and swearing!
This was a popular lunchtime spot and car park for a lovely local park.

Ex wasn't so much bothered about the littering, but he hated our dog to go round and try and get the last crumbs from any discarded wrappers.
