I have been lucky enough to get the keys for a new build from the council. It has a mix of private rent, council and home buyers. Some of the houses are still being built. Today I was waiting outside to get the keys and some builders went past in a car and said something along the lines of ‘…getting a house from the council’ and laughed really loud. I have been very lucky after fleeing DV with a 3 year old and I feel really upset and embarrassed

If you need a bad life choice I can give you my ex husbands number... 🤣

I have a couple of others I could use first 😂😂

Gettingonmygoat · 22/03/2024 19:14

I really don't understand those that think owning a home makes you a better person. Peter Sutcliffe, Harold Shipman and many other serial killers owned a house, didn't make them better did it?

Okbyethen · 22/03/2024 19:16

Don't let them get to you, ignore them! Soon as the developments done they'll be gone and you'll never see their stupid faces again!

Congratulations and enjoy your new home 🔑🥳💖

Hatethisdrama · 22/03/2024 19:19

They are rude and ignorant!
The very best of luck in your new home and with your new life.
You deserve this break, don’t let the haters bring you down 💐

Blogswife · 22/03/2024 19:19

It’s good to see the welfare system working so well. Your situation is exactly why we have council houses .You have done a brave thing leaving your violent situation, how lovely that you have a brand new home to move in to
Anyone of those builders could find themselves in need of welfare support in the future -they are just too ignorant to realise it

Let it go , enjoy your new home & be happy 😊

Pookerrod · 22/03/2024 19:19

Those men are exactly the type of man you have fled from. Fuck them! Unfortunately there will always be shitty, disgusting men in this world, but be delighted you no longer have to share a house with one!

Enjoy your new home 🏡

Mountainclimber50 · 22/03/2024 19:27

Don’t let other people get you down. They are not part of your future.

Enjoy your new home.

SadMumSEN · 22/03/2024 19:30

Start writing up a massive snagging list from their shoddy workmanship.

Congratulations on your lovely new home xx

Italiangreyhound · 22/03/2024 19:39

Don't let them spoil this for you.

They are ignorant sods.

di2004 · 22/03/2024 19:42

Congratulations on your new home!

Best wishes to you and your little one.. stay positive and ignore those silly comments x

80sballetgirl · 22/03/2024 19:43

Don’t focus on their ignorant comment, focus on how far you’ve come.
They are not worth a second of your time. Enjoy your new home & new safe life 💜

Fundays12 · 22/03/2024 19:45

Those builders are ignorant and horrible people. I would put in a complaint to the building company that employs them. I bought in an new build estate which has a mix of mainly housing association homes and bought ones. I couldn't ask for a nicer neighbours (except a couple but you get them anywhere). The estate and homes/gardens are well maintained, the kids have fun together and it's a nice place to live. I would be livid if I had overheard any comments like that from the builder's who built the second half of our estate after we moved in but they were professionals and very respectful so that never happened. Enjoy your new home

JamieFrasersSassenach · 22/03/2024 19:50

You are amazing OP - you've escaped DV, saved your kids from it too, AND got yourself a lovely new home to bring them up in.

The men in the van however are wankers and always will be, they don't even deserve your pity, please don't let them live rent free in your head.

Enjoy your fab new and deserved home Flowers

I've made some horrendous life choices, and I have a council house.

Its still not free though.

Where can I apply for one of these free houses that you definitely have experience of within your family?

Downing Street has a few.

Nudgethatjudge · 22/03/2024 20:06

They are thoughtless walkers in wankering group mentality mode.

Totally ignore them. Enjoy your new home, I hope its cosy and a safe home for you.

Ramalangadingdong · 22/03/2024 20:14

How do you know they were talking about you? How did you hear what they were saying? Was the car going very slowly? Did it stop near you?

In any case forget about it. And congratulations! I am a homeowner and grew up in a council flat. I want the government to build more social housing. Everybody deserves a nice home.

FuckityFuckBollocks · 22/03/2024 20:16

Well yeah they can just fuck right off can’t they?! In the meantime, while we’re generalising, they’re probably all absent fathers who don’t see their kids and hide their self-employed earnings to avoid paying maintenance anyway.

listsandbudgets · 22/03/2024 20:20

What a pair of plonkers - I wouldn't pay any more heed to a word they had to say OP not worth your time of day.

Congratulations on your new home. I hope you'll be really happy AND safe Flowers

Chevybaby · 22/03/2024 20:26

Uuuurgh Im so sorry this bully made you feel like this at the very moment you should be giving yourself a massive pat on the back for getting away from another bully. I really hope yku don't dwell on it too long!! Private rents are almost unaffordable for single people these days, I have literally no idea how single mothers could dream of affording them. I hope thus new place feels like home soon. Well done xxxx

2024istheyearforme · 22/03/2024 20:27

My first social housing flat 6 years ago was £900 a month rent ... Definitely not free , and that was a tiny 2 bed flat but I loved it because it was secure. But I could have found private homes for cheaper just wanted the security front my landlord

TheFancyPoet · 22/03/2024 20:29

People will say many other things and honestly, their opinion does not matter. Your food, shelter, health and the family ones are all that matters for that and all other matter in life.

Look after yourself and the children. No one else will love them more than you and no one will come and pay your bills. If someone does not pay your bills, their opinion is for the garbage

MamaToABeautifulBoy · 22/03/2024 20:30

What a sad little man. Showing off in front of his equally silly mates.

when I was 15, I was walking along the street with my mum having a lovely day shopping when some work men shouted from a white van (quelle surprise) oi big bum.

I’m 50 now and can still remember the shame I felt. It totally ruined my day.

(I love my big bum now 😃)

enjoy your new pad 🏠 🥰

CatsAreBetterThanPpl · 22/03/2024 20:31

Congratulations on the new home - don't let those idiots ruin it for you. I'd have been tempted to document their company's details and raise a complaint

PinkReader · 22/03/2024 20:31

F them! Your new house regardless of who “owns” it has paid their wages. Hold your head high and enjoy your safe home for your little family and celebrate your new start 🩷

Why would that embarrass you?

I grew up in a council house and it was wonderful... the area is gentrified and really popular now.

There is nothing 'embarrassing' about social housing except the governments piss poor handling leading to a lack of it.
