To be fed up of AMA high earner threads where the poster is not actually the high earner?

Please can we hear from a female (single, married, with kids, whatever) who earns enormous sums rather than someone who has married a rich husband. No jealousy, I’d have loved to have married a rich husband myself, but genuinely interested to have a thread from a woman at the top of the money earning tree. Is that too much to ask?

YANBU.

Also fed up with women posting AMA im a high earner, and then turns out they are an average earner and its the husband that earns the money. Not much for them to answer as they are not the high earner

Bluesky91 · 21/03/2024 22:53

What’s your definition of “high earner” ?

2Old2Tango · 21/03/2024 22:54

Also the fact the OP said "ask me anything" but was being coy or avoiding directly answering the questions. Why bother posting then!

Bibbetybobbity · 21/03/2024 22:56

Yep- 100% agree OP. If the poster isn’t the high earner, then no I’ve not got any qus for them about being a high earner 🙄

GRex · 21/03/2024 22:57

You don't sound unreasonable, in that it sounds pointless for a low earner to set themselves up for questions about something they don't know about... but I don't understand what you want to ask a high earner anyway. If you're looking at career moves, go to women's networking events and speak to specialist recruiters for the best advice for your field.

TheDarkHouse · 21/03/2024 22:57

Ask me anything, doesn’t mean I’ll answer.

i agree - people asking for advice and the OP isn’t speaking from experience. What’s the point.

DanielGault · 21/03/2024 22:57

Just don't read them fgs.

pinksheetss · 21/03/2024 23:01

YABU

stop reading them, let people have a laugh. A little giggle together can be a massive difference for some people

ShowerEasy · 21/03/2024 23:02

I’ve yet to read one that didn’t come across as 100% gold plated horseshit.

FusionChefGeoff · 21/03/2024 23:04

I'd love a proper one. I'm working with some very senior legal people at the moment so idly googled the average wage at their level on Glassdoor.

Even accounting for my rudimentary tax calcs, these people are TAKING HOME around £40-50 THOUSAND a MONTH!! That's like winning the lottery every month for the rest of your life.

My brain can't cope and I'd love to chat to someone to find out what they spend it on. Even private school fees / couple of mill on a huge house would only eat up so much a month

DanielGault · 21/03/2024 23:05

AMA I haven't a pot to piss in and am in a mental health crisis. Is that better?

Ladyluckinred · 21/03/2024 23:10

I’ve just had a read after seeing your post, OP. I don’t think either her or her husband are earning that amount of money. She has no idea what to say when people are asking about future plans, investments etc.. poster is probably a little bored.

However I did LMFAO when someone asked the question “how many poos do you have a day?”. Interestingly, that was one of the few questions she did answer!

Myotheripodisayoto · 21/03/2024 23:12

Im high relatively to uk averages but not exceptional for London. 150k p.a.

Dh earns more, lucky bastard

Violetandgreen · 21/03/2024 23:15

Yes it would be really helpful to hear from women who are high earning in their careers, to try and steer our daughters in this direction!!

Sorry, how is this relevant to the thread?

Did she say she was a high earner?

Or that their household income was over £700k?

Idontknowwhattodo78 · 21/03/2024 23:24

I agree. And I do. IRL, I also mentor and provide careers advice to women in/trying to get in to my sector. I absolutely wouldn’t post about it in detail on here though.

Not career moves, I’m more interested in the juggling act that so many women sadly still end up doing no matter what their earning potential. It’s frequently the default that “it makes no sense” for a woman to go back to work/ work full time post kids because their partner is the higher earner. I’m particularly interested in hearing from women who have pushed past that mindset, got to the top of their game, and reaped the financial rewards.

There was a very interesting thread on here a couple of years ago I think with the title something like do you earn more than 100 K per year?

LorlieS · 21/03/2024 23:28

Taking a step back from this...how many women are earning more than their husbands?
I'd be interested to know stats on this and reasons behind it.

Do you know what, I think this is somewhat disingenuous. When it comes to having kids, someone has to take the hit time wise, or you basically get a live in carer. If you're smart enough to have such a high paying/demanding job, this surely wouldn't have escaped your notice. It's ultimately between yourself and your H but somebody has to mind the child.

If you read MN and posts about what people earn you'd be forgiven for thinking about 85k + was average when IRL its clearly not!
Even in London there are plenty of us earning average and below average salaries!
(On a thread last year there were some posters that seemed surprised anyone in London earned less than 30k!)

Labraradabrador · 21/03/2024 23:34

I don’t think the poster you are referencing claimed to be a high earner, just part of a high earning household.

and if you don’t think a post is worthwhile, move on. My pet peeve is posters trashing an op for their post - it ironically elevates the post on mumsnet while also making it more difficult for people actually interested in the op to have a dialogue.

therealcookiemonster · 21/03/2024 23:37

hi there I would classify myself as a high earner... even though I only accept cookies, I earn a lot of them

many through TV appearances, social media product placement and if plied with enough cookies - birthday parties.

you can ask me anything

therealcookiemonster · 21/03/2024 23:40

jokes aside ive found these recent high earning ama threads a bit crass in this time of COL crises. especially if they don't want to answer questions as to how they got there to give others some inspiration.

would be better if OP wanted to do an AMA on how they dug themselves out of financial difficulty and made it big
