Where can I buy DP a massive fucking gold medal for being the only one in the house "not on long term medication"?

There are three of us in our house - the dog, me and DP.

The dog practically rattles with all the medicines she's on.
I'm on a repeat prescription for pain killers for my periods.
DP isn't on any medication for anything.

Three times recently he's commented that he's the only one in the house "not on long term medication" with a kind of underlying smugness and superiority that I can't quite put my finger on.

He said it for the third time last night and it disproportionately pissed me off. I was in the middle of brushing my teeth, he was in another room and by the time I could've replied, the moment had passed and he was wanging on about something else. So I just let it go.

But it's ridiculously still niggling at me today.

AIBU to think this comment is a really fucking weirdly superior, smug thing to say?

For context - though DP isn't on long term medication, he's not exactly the picture of fucking health. He's been carrying a paunch for a decade, he suffers with eczema, he's got a dodgy eye, and a pair of piles have just appeared at the brim of his bumhole.

Yeah, that would annoy me too. I have a lot of health conditions - if I didn't have a pre payment certificate my annual prescription costs would be £2,500 a year.

I'm on a lot of long term medication and some, like my asthma inhalers, I'll be on for life. It's not a moral failing to need medication.

Suggest he get a prescription from the GP for haemorrhoid cream so he can join you and the dog!

Octavia64 · 21/03/2024 10:29

Ask him what part of his body he'd like you to break so he can join you?

pastypirate · 21/03/2024 10:29

I'm not sure a medal exists thats is suitably vast op!

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/03/2024 10:32

Give it time. He’ll be rattling too in a few years. Your periods will stop, his conditions will only get worse. Then you can be smug.

PeppermintParty · 21/03/2024 10:33

Can I have a medal too please? I've got MS, In the past couple of years, I've had cancer, I've had umpteen operations and yet I'm not on any long term medication either! (Although hoping that they may be able to prescribe something soon for my MS, but that depends on the cancer).

Neverpostagain · 21/03/2024 10:34

Hahaha We have this! Me and the cat both sick and DH just expected to soldier on and cope with the whining pair of us. He actually does deserve a medal. It surprises me every day that he doesn't just abandon us and skip off into the sunset.

Daffodilsarentfluffy · 21/03/2024 10:35

Tell him if there was pills for twats he would get a prescription then..

Kingsleadhat · 21/03/2024 10:38

Get one that he can dangle from his hemmaroids

TextureSeeker · 21/03/2024 10:39

I've seen that sort of thing on mn before too. People being weirdly smug that they haven't been unlucky enough to have some kind of long term condition. I think they think these things are 100% down to them 'taking care of themselves' unlike the people who have some kind of condition. When in reality these things are often just the luck of the draw/genetics.

Yeah, I've seen it too. It's a twattish attitude.

Also, why doesn't he actually get treatment for his eczema? Does he see seeking medical treatment as an admission of failure?

YANBU for being annoyed OP.

MonsteraMama · 21/03/2024 10:41

Buy fake prescription bottle, fill with tic tacs, print label for "anti-twat pills", present them to him with an invitation to join the long term medication club.

Perfect!

BashfulClam · 21/03/2024 10:45

‘Hmm that’s because there isn’t any m dictation for being smug twat!’ Or what I usually say is ‘Really? What do you want me to do with that information?’

endofthelinefinally · 21/03/2024 10:46

None of us know what life will throw at us. I know that from my own experience. If i had known what was in store for me I would have lived life very differently.

Yep, I think that's part of it.

DP doesn't exactly "look after himself" though - hence the paunch.

'Only because they haven't yet developed a medication for being a tedious fucking wanker darling'

Renamed · 21/03/2024 10:48

Nod sympathetically and say it’s a shame they haven’t been able to treat his eczema

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 21/03/2024 10:49

I would ask him direct next time he says it - "You keep making that comment about medication - what point are you trying to make exactly?"

He will either have to admit to being a smug twat, or stop saying it.

Maray1967 · 21/03/2024 10:49

I agree with the above suggestions.

And I’d also make it very clear that if mentions this when you’re with others you will point out what his conditions are. He has been warned.

Hmmm, not exactly an admission of failure as such. But kind of. It's hard to explain. He'll see the doctor if absolutely 100% necessary and completely unavoidable, but not otherwise.

He has a dodgy eye which I keep saying he should get checked out. But he puts it down to stress, to being on a diet, to not having slept well, to having a late night etc. All may well be true but why not just get it looked at.

OohLaFiatMultipla · 21/03/2024 10:52

Completely agree he's a twat but I wouldn't even consider yours long term meds! Painkillers for period pains to be taken as needed, that's not constant medication. Unless you're telling him you're always on a period to avoid having sex with him, which I would fully understand

SeaToSki · 21/03/2024 10:52

I think he needs a crown not just a medal…since he is the king of fabulous health ! Do they still do crowns at Burger King? Maybe one of those would suit and you can use a felt tip to inscribe something suitable affirming on it..like condescending wanker
