Not enough breakfast options!

DH trundled into the kitchen this mornings and proceeded to complain about there being nothing for breakfast.

We have:
Regular porridge
Chocolate porridge
Ready Brek
Weetabix
Shreddies
Own brand Rice Krispies (he won’t touch own brand cereal)
Eat Natural wholegrain cereal
Fruit
Bread
Jam
Bacon
Eggs
Smoked salmon

But there’s sod all in the house for breakfast!

YABU: How could anyone be expected to eat any of that shit?
YANBU: Go to the shop 5 doors down and get whatever you fancy!

I wasn’t being serious. A rubbish joke that nobody picked up on.

To be clear, I don’t genuinely believe that people capable to getting to the Moon are incapable of making breakfast. Of course he should be sorting out breakfast, and make hers while he’s at it!

Women calculated lunar trajectories. But try and get them to park straight hahaha amirite lol lol lol ee we had a laugh didn’t we.

Not unreasonable. But neither is he. It’s just male fridge blindness. He can’t help it, they all have it.

I read this as firmly tongue in cheek. Of course there's no such thing as fridge blindness

sweeneytoddsrazor · 16/03/2024 12:16

@LoveSkaMusic has the most sensible reply.
@CaterhamReconstituted I assumed your response was a jokey reply shame others have no sense of humour.
There is often a moan of nothing to eat in this house. It roughly translates to there is no crap I can chuck in the microwave I need to actually make something. Nobody ever gets a shitty bugger off and buy something response. I just laugh and say ok and get on with my day. They make themselves something and get on with theirs. No need for all the bloody drama

Kalevala · 16/03/2024 12:22

Proper porridge oats or porridge dust?
I'd eat porridge, fruit, (bakery?) bread and (free range?) eggs from that list and would be happy with that.

Gettingonmygoat · 16/03/2024 12:24

Maybe you should give him the option my Nana gave to us if we complained about what was on offer, green shite and sugar. That will shut him up.

honeylulu · 16/03/2024 12:25

"Well you'd better go and buy some more then. I look forward to seeing what you come back with. Cheerio!"

RosesAndHellebores · 16/03/2024 12:27

What did he want?
From your list I'd be happy with fruit, eggs and smoked salmon.

HappiestSleeping · 16/03/2024 12:44

As soon as I got to 'bacon' I knew he was being unreasonable. Bacon is always the answer.

Inertia · 16/03/2024 12:50

Sounds like he means to moan that you haven’t made his breakfast .

Kwasi · 16/03/2024 13:06

I am somehow supposed to know what he’ll fancy for every meal. He is spoiled at work, as they have an excellent cafeteria. He has bacon sarnies for breakfast there most mornings.

It literally drives me insane. He settled on porridge in the end.

What he wanted was the moon on a chocolate-dipped stick!

Proper rolled oats. Sourdough bread from the bakery, plus a loaf of white Hovis and a loaf of brown. Free range eggs from a house up the road.

No, I never make him breakfast. He does all of his own meals but I do the shopping. Food is VERY important to him (it’s not to me), so if it’s not something he fancies, he has a huff.

My DDs used to say the same whilst staring forlornly into a packed fridge … now they’ve moved out they are overjoyed at our fridge when they pop home.

Yest it was obviously a joke!

Just tell him you haven't done the course in advanced ESP. Perhaps you could hand over all food planning / purchasing and meal making over to him since it appears that what you are doing is somehow sub standard?

I do frequently tell my family that my mind-reading abilities must be on the blink!

Of course you’re being unreasonable OP! You should have made sure there were kippers and kedgeree, plus cold game pie and a whole ham on the sideboard, tut tut.

WelshNerd · 16/03/2024 13:30

You should have directed him to the hotel manager.

What a tiresome attitude, do you truly not know any men who don’t fit the stereotypes in your head?

They said it was a joke. Mumsnet really is very humourless.

I can’t seem to edit my post to confirm I had missed the update confirming it was tongue in cheek 🤦🏻‍♀️
