How fake is The Apprentice?

I'm watching the latest episode.

How much of it is fake/edited for TV?

I don't understand how these people can make mistakes like this 😂

My husband is adamant that Lord Sugee is never actually in the same room as the contestants as they are never in the same shot 😆 I think it is because he is short and has a complex

It’s not fake, they just set them up to fail by giving them tasks to do that are impossible in the time. They make them look stupid for our entertainment. In the end, Sugar will just pick the one who has the most viable business idea, the rest of it is a trial by humiliation.

He definitely looks at all the proposals first, picks a winner and then starts the show.

I am friends with a previous contestant winner. The Lord appears as often as he does in the programme, apparently (i.e. not actually that often). Apart from the investment when you win (which you are expected and pressured to pay back) there's not a huge amount of support, either...

The office of Lord sugar is actually a studio called Dukes Island in Acton, right next to the big B&Q. The cafe is next to it but is closed most of the time.

The car rides they do in couples/groups during the tasks was all in a studio on a green screen - or at least is was the first two years after it returned from covid break. Haven’t watched last years or this years to confirm they still do that trick.

I have a family member who was on it, it’s not fake as such, in the sense that it’s not scripted, it is heavily edited and the situations are manipulated. For example, whenever a task is to ‘invent’ something, the reality is that they are given a selection of things for them to pretend they invented one of them. So if all the options are shit, then tough! They have to pretend it’s the greatest idea

Surely that's a fix ..

It's also always the same time, so why are you made out to be in bed? Surely you'd know it's the day, what time it is so get your backside out of bed!

I know for certain that in the 'scavenger hunt' task the retailers are asked to take part in advance and have to agree to haggle. They don't just turn up out of the blue at a business as is made out.

My friend produces the show. I asked him this very question. He said on the whole the candidates are not nearly as stupid and hapless as they are portrayed, in fact most seen quite intelligent and pleasant. He did say everything is filmed and the editing does it's best to show them up. They do a great job of it!

I think someone on another thread about this said that the cars arrive in 20 minutes but that doesn't mean they are expected to be in the cars in 20 minutes!

It’s not just the dress code that’s out of date, the whole show of intimidating/ back stabbing/bickering that goes on in the Boardroom seems from a different era nowadays. The show has got stuck in the ages.

Exactly. The cereal box episode is a case in point. In real life, the packaging and product would be developed over time!

Alas not, my family member regretted their suit choice, but you have to wear the exact same outfit in all the boardroom filming sessions, so once you’ve picked the outfit, you are stuck with it
