How fake is The Apprentice?

I'm watching the latest episode.

How much of it is fake/edited for TV?

I don't understand how these people can make mistakes like this 😂

I do loves the market research they do with their finished product, and without the chance to refine afterwards.

Alas not, my family member regretted their suit choice, but you have to wear the exact same outfit in all the boardroom filming sessions, so once you’ve picked the outfit, you are stuck with it

What do you mean? They used to have to wear the same suit for all of the episodes?

The clothes HAVE to be fake. No one wears those bright mini suits the women wear. Decades out of date.

This is my first year watching because I used to go to Mauras yoga classes. She said on her Instagram that she raided other peoples wardrobes for her clothes, fairly sure she said it was her mothers and other older relatives so you're probably right 😅

I was amazed in the last episode that people were paying over €100 pp for the boat ride or wine tour. They seemed to agree to it so easily, including young couples. Does the programme let them do it for free or do they actually pay that money?

I think that when it comes to regular people they do pay I would imagine some are happy to pay because they want to be on the TV also!

I thought the big client deals must be fake though, like Iceland buying all that cereal last week? but then one of the newspapers said they made history with the deal so I don't know!

They made Apprentice history. There wasn't actually a deal because the cereal isn't in production.

That's what I was thinking when I watched it, but the article made it sound like it was a real deal so obviously I was just fooled!😅

When they get that early morning phone call...' the car will pick you up in 20 minutes '. ..How the hell do they get ready to quickly..How do they get the false eyelashes on and all that makeup in such little time ???
Surely that's a fix ..

😂 this is so true

They're nowhere near as good as they used to be, the current series is a cheap imitation IMHO.

I just can’t believe the £250k hasn’t gone up with inflation and it’s for FIFTY percent!

There's a ton of info on the Apprentice subreddit, including AMAs with the fired contestants and winners, but here are some things I remember:

  • Yes, the people who sign up for trips/tours do have to pay. Someone who said he/she was on the boat trip in Budapest last week said that they were given an ipad or something and made to pay via paypal (with their own money). They also said the boat trip was much longer and more enjoyable than what was shown on the episode.
  • Contestants are told in advance what time the wake-up call will come, so they will be awake in advance if they need to straighten their hair etc.
  • The boardroom scene sometimes goes on very long, so the fired contestant getting into the car scenes are filmed in advance in case it is dark or rainy outside (they are filmedwearing their coats, so if they were filmed weeks/days in advance you can't see that the outfits don't match).
  • The contestants aren't allowed to lift the curtain about the fact that they're on a tv show which has obvious production issues. So for example, on the tasks where they are given multiple items they need to source at the lowest price, one former contestant said that they had found an item in 3-4 different shops that refused permission to film. But at the boardroom, the team wasn't allowed to say 'actually, we did find this item, we just weren't allowed to buy it because it couldn't be filmed' and instead the footage showed them walking past the item as if they hadn't seen it/couldn't find it/were buffoons.

Personally I think the format is a little stale and I wished they would shake it up a bit. As just one example, I wish they were allowed to work the market research into their products, which would show their ability to pivot, which is actually a critical business skill.

Lottie who was on the other year did a few tik toks about it all. The leaving scenes are all filmed together at the start of filming. The girls often go to bed with full on make up to make it easier and the cars turn up in 20 minutes, but that doesn’t mean they have to leave in 20 minutes. Once the cars are there the film crew have a load of setting up to do.

But it’s still impulsive viewing!
