‘Just now Labour MPs prevented debate on a new law to protect children and single sex spaces.

Instead they used parliamentary time to discuss ferret name choices.

@Keir_Starmer is terrified of debate on safeguarding & his MPs actively work to ignore the concerns of constituents’

An older article but the ‘high levels of misunderstanding’ are still there. This helps Labour kill their responsibility towards biological women (and so theirs and children’s safe spaces) enormously and they know it.

To think that Labour have just shot themselves in the foot?

I was not aware that you were asking me specifically about Rosie Duffield?
I know that she has been very open about considering leaving the party after the harassment from Labour males. I suppose it's progress of sorts that Streeting apologised to her recently.

If I was her I would have left but I am clearly not as strong or as bloody minded as she is. I imagine she stays because she wants to represent women who care about safeguarding of women and girls and to try to hold the party to account on these issues in the face of unimaginable daily threats. She is amazing imo and I wish that more MPs had her backbone and conviction.

I'm going to ask you, as an ultra GC:

What space.. How would "they" keep men out?

It's a stupid question. If men want to access women's spaces they will. Self-ID breaks the social contract where men can be challenged, but self ID is not on the table now.

So I am unclear as to what your concern is?

"The law" can't deal with rapists. Making "a law to keep males with GRC out" means sweet fanny Adams.

That doesn't mean we should not have an expectation of no males in female spaces just as we should be able to have an expectation to not be raped. The fact that policing something is a challenge does not mean we just accept the harms which it causes.

I wasn’t, I should probably have added “anyone?” to my post. But I’d be delighted if you felt moved to share your view.

Sorry so many posts. What is the question about RD?

Why would you base a voting decision on Labour’s treatment of Duffield when she continues to be a Labour MP? Why would you be more upset about it than she is? She clearly believes Labour is a better party for women than any of the others, why not believe her?

Here you go @Redrosetat.

bombastix · 16/03/2024 10:36

@WaterWeasel - you and I are not going to agree but I have put my own money on it.

The Conservatives can play games on this point if they like here, but outside in the country it is very different.

I believe that I'm going to make my money back and then some on election day. I did not even plan for some of figures that are being touted now for the Conservatives which are close to 100 seats.

Left wing parties are often accused of being captured by special interests and small groups. But it seems that really, it is the Conservatives who are dementing themselves on this to no end, and not getting electoral benefit. You see the same posters here, former Labour activists enraged by their leadership but that is not enough to influence or engage a majority of Mumsnet or a wider women's vote.

My money is safe. The Conservatives are going to lose because of the economy and public services.

Labour’s best bet is avoiding this issue as they are not able to speak plainly

It’s obviously what they are their supporters are committed to

It doesn’t mean women will be happy with TRA lobbyists influencing post GE

Starmer and co are aware of who they ignoring and why.

I don't doubt the Tories will lose - they fully deserve to. But Labour will not get the thumping majority they are assuming that they will imo.

I wouldn’t, the treatment of Rosie Duffield is a symptom of the misogynism of the Labour Party.

I can’t speak on behalf of RD but perhaps she thinks it is better to try and fight the issue from within, rather than leave the Labour Party to their woman hating selves.

Yes and it MUST be dragged out in to the sunlight somehow so that women understand exactly what they are getting when they vote Labour.

Yep.

If people still vote knowing then at least it’s informed and they can take ownership of the outcome wrt women and children

Clarity and information from Starmer and co. Let’s hear it, then we can decide.

bombastix · 16/03/2024 10:43

@WaterWeasel - yes I am not convinced by the 200 plus Labour majority predictions. I don't agree with that. But the Conservatives are high risk all the time now. The more they play this culture war ticket while people feel poor the angrier and more disconnected the voter gets. The polls reflect this. My guess is 140 plus for Labour. And I don't know about Reform. Another thread though

We do know. And we like what we’re being promised, almost as much as we detest what the current government is giving us. I really wish you’d all stop talking about “women” as if we were some amorphous mass with a hive mind. None of you speak for me and I’m not less of a woman because I disagree with you.

You do. You’ll vote for Labour whatever.

Others don’t hence these threads

Just like Duffield then. She’s really inconvenient, isn’t she? A woman deified by the gender critical who continues as a Labour MP.

If people are committed to Labour no matter what go for it

Don’t tune in when they provide clarity

For women who want to get that then let’s hear it.

Rosie Duffield is not ‘inconvenient’ at all. She’s a warrior. I admire her, sticking around in the current cess pit, must be bloody awful.

It doesn’t support your assertion that Labour’s bad for women though. I’m very surprised you continue to show such admiration for her, surely she must be a traitor to your cause?

The party’s treatment of a GC MP is instructive

It shows how Labour deal with women who speak up

I suspect that the GE is not going to go the way that many think that it is.

If you think the Tories are going to win, you will be very disappointed. Even the party itself admits it is doomed, bar some sort of last minute miracle.

They will lose. Sunak will be dumped. Mordaunt will be next leader is my prediction.

OutLastWeek · 16/03/2024 11:03

They will lose.

But not necessarily because of Labour, or GC/ trans issues.

Many of the ‘big issues’ are the ones potentially motivating people to vote Reform.
