To wonder why there's no BBC Panorama documentary into racism in the Tory party?

Strange, isn't it? Must be because of the BBC's well known left wing bias.

Maybe they haven't got to it perhaps you could contact them with a list to help them investigate

Pepsimaxedout · 14/03/2024 17:25

Because it would be like making a documentary on things like water being wet, the pope being Catholic and bears shitting in the woods.

Startingagainandagain · 14/03/2024 17:54

Well there is not really a need to investigate racism in the Tory party.

Because it is not like they are hiding it at this point. It is there in the open to for everyone to see.

This is a party that has dangerously moved to the far right and its policies and elected members make comments and come up with policies that are made to please the right wing media and are often xenophobic, racist and misogynist or they pick on disabled people and anyone who is unlucky enough to rely on benefits...and the PM supports that.

I'm sure there will be at some point.

RoberttPostesChild · 14/03/2024 17:57

It's probably because the BBC is chock-a-block full of racist tories?

How rude. Do you feel proud of yourself when you attack a pioneering woman in this way?

You mean the one who's son spits on police officers or the one who insulted Jews? That pioneering woman you mean? Yeah...

Her son’s actions are his, not hers. She’s still under investigation but has apologised for her actions.
However

  • she attended Cambridge when it was almost unheard of for someone of her background, never mind race
  • she was the first black woman to be an MP
  • shes still got a majority the envy of other MPs

so, yes, that pioneering woman.
Seriously. Your disdain does you no credit.

Neither does your selectiveness.

Sorry? What have I missed that doesn’t make her pioneering?
You can disagree with her, dislike her even, but she is a pioneer and offensive personal comments make you seem small and unpleasant.

kikisparks · 14/03/2024 18:14

Depressing that a thread about racism in politics descends into bashing a black female politician.

LlynTegid · 14/03/2024 18:16

The BBC are threatened by the Tories on occasion that their funding would be reduced, such as by decriminalisation of the licence fee. A documentary about racists in the Conservative Party would probably result in such action.

Yep. That's Mumsnet for you though, hardly a surprise.

Oh come on now. Far right??

First tell me what 'far right' means, and then name a single policy that matches it.

Literally this, what exactly would be the point? If you are unaware of racism in the Tory party, you’ve been living under a rock

‘Far left’ is used very casually and with less reason. Racism. A former PM nodding about Tommy Two Names being a hero. Wanting to break international law. If you can’t see it, it’s wilful at this point.

BeretInParis · 14/03/2024 18:55

Like most matters, there are shades of grey in this issue. All political parties are full of racist people. Just like society.

The Tories are not far right. Labour are not far left. They both occupy the centre-ish and snipe at each other. It's useful to label one another as being extreme to create division and lock in voters.

Diane Abbott is very accomplished and very bright but she's no saint, She should know better than to spout antisemitic rubbish. And Frank Hester was racist.

I encourage people to stop thinking along partisan lines and discover the grey in the world. The world would be much better for it.

Wilful ignorance.
thank you for your input.

The Rwanda policy is the only one needed to show it. Against international law.

This is basically a fancy version of the ‘they’re all the same’ line. They aren’t. The current Tories have been provably corrupt, law breaking and self serving to a greater extent than any government of any clout that I can remember. So that’s since at least the early 80s.

I would posit that ignorance is demonstrated by not having anything to back up what you say.

So processing illegal migrants in another country is far right now...

Question for you: do you think that Australia, Denmark, and Israel are 'far right'?

newnamethanks · 14/03/2024 19:47

Her son is seriously unwell and has no place in this conversation. Shame on you. Doubly so.

Waitingforsomethinginteresting · 14/03/2024 19:53

Just because Diane Abbott was pioneering does not exempt her from the general criticism other MPs get, as long as it doesn't become racist / sexist. She isn't perfect, she doesn't need portraying as a saint
