To wonder why there's no BBC Panorama documentary into racism in the Tory party?

Strange, isn't it? Must be because of the BBC's well known left wing bias.

I would posit that ignorance is demonstrated by not having anything to back up what you say.

So processing illegal migrants in another country is far right now...

Question for you: do you think that Australia, Denmark, and Israel are 'far right'?

I am backing up what I’m saying.
They aren’t ‘processing them in a different country’ - you do know that, surely? Even if judged genuine they will not be allowed to come to Britain. It’s an unlawful policy.
There are elements in the governments of all those countries that are, yes.

Aus has a Labor gov so you have a point

Just because Diane Abbott was pioneering does not exempt her from the general criticism other MPs get, as long as it doesn't become racist / sexist. She isn't perfect, she doesn't need portraying as a saint

You think personal comments about her appearance and family are ‘general criticism’? That’s what I was questioning.
that particular comment was obliquely referencing race. She gets loads of racist sexist attack - as witness the whole Hestor thing which I assume prompted this thread.
You aren’t making much sense.

Elements
Also that both are called Labour doesn’t mean they are the same.
And you can’t seriously be suggesting our Labour Party is further right than the Tories anyway?

I'm out. You are talking nonsense.

So, given that you've identified the 'far right' in 4 countries, surely you can define it for me?

Waitingforsomethinginteresting · 14/03/2024 20:02

@cardibach just because you don't agree dorky mean my post isn't understandable. Other MPs face criticism of their appearance all the time and I've never seen a defence of others in the way DA is

I’ll defend anyone attacked for their appearance. Or their race or sex.

Go if you wish but Labor is centre left in Aus

Liberals are to the right

It’s the political set up there. Howard brought in the initial policy but Labor knew it would be madness to overturn something that was working.

It isn’t working. It’s bringing a whole load of international distaste with it for not a lot of gain.

CaterhamReconstituted · 14/03/2024 20:05

Yawn. The idea that a few crusty old Tory dinosaurs uttering politically incorrect language about black people over their late night whiskeys is a bigger issue than the deep-rooted, ideological, visceral anti-Semitism that infects the Labour Party is ridiculous. Get that dead cat off the table!

Where isn’t it working? In Aus?

It is, hence it not even coming up in elections as an option to change by Labor

Let’s forget Aus for a minute.
The Rwanda policy is against international law. Let’s not do that, eh?

EasternStandard · 14/03/2024 20:14

People can have an opinion on that but the posts on Aus weren’t correct, so I posted information

ThisQuickFinch · 14/03/2024 20:21

Cant believe this thread only took 5 posts to get to a racist comment about a black woman’s hair…

You're the one that said they were far right, and I don't believe you. Hence my questions.

The onus is on you to back up your assertion.

So far we seem to have narrowed it down to 'tries to remove some migrants', but that's not helping much.

The last one in particular, you cannot be serious in asking this question, do you not consider Benjamin Netanyahu far right? Denmark’s policies on immigration and its treatment of immigrants is right wing. Their ghetto laws wouldn’t wash here for example.

@Waitingforsomethinginteresting you’re being a bit disingenuous here. She gets a hugely disproportionate amount of “general criticism”. For example the amount of times this Cambridge grad is called stupid. Look at what Liz Truss did, has she received even half the abuse?

Please find me one Jewish politician in the last 20 years, who has received more prejudiced vitriol than Diane Abbott. Then go read the Forde report, because I think you will find it explicitly stated that in the hierarchy of racism, racism against black and Muslim people is taken less seriously than antisemitism in the Labour Party.

By all means complain about it, but leave us out of it. Thank you.

If you read the post, you'll notice that I never said who was what. I was asking what cardi thought they were, in an attempt to close in on a definition.

silverneedle · 14/03/2024 21:08

The Tories are not far right

The current Tory government doesn’t yet fully meet the definition of far right but their policies have shifted much more to the right than any previous Tory govt. They are certainly flirting with some v unsavoury takes, policies and behaviour.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 14/03/2024 21:14

They do have some pretty far right MPs, though. Until recently, Lee Anderson was one. There are others.

Policies..... such as?

EasternStandard · 14/03/2024 21:15

I think a fair few countries are heading to the right

Portugal a recent example

I’m not surprised and thought it would be the case as migration picks up

Aus though is interesting as it has a policy in place that is now bipartisan, and has not affected international standing

Anti-Semitism is taken seriously in the Labour Party? Are you actually for f real?

There is no hierarchy of racism. This is identity politics bullshit. Racism is racism.

Saponatheim · 14/03/2024 21:44

@EasternStandard guess you can always hope 😂
Talking about far right, the culture war is pretty much out of alt right training manuals. Look at Steve Bannon, henchman of Trump and confidante of Johnson, and you can see the path Tories would love to follow if they could get away with it. The Tories have well known links with some very dodgy and wealthy US pressure groups like the Edmund Burke foundation, Heritage org, National conservatives. Liz Truss was even over there demanding that Farage joins the Conservative Party to ‘get back our country’. The accusations about Cultural Marxism infecting our institutions is a good example of the way that extremist language is slowly becoming normalised and allowing conspiracy theories to take hold as well as suggestions that trans people have infiltrated the CS and khan is in league with Islamists. This is text book far right behaviour.
