To wonder why there's no BBC Panorama documentary into racism in the Tory party?

Strange, isn't it? Must be because of the BBC's well known left wing bias.

@EasternStandard guess you can always hope 😂
Talking about far right, the culture war is pretty much out of alt right training manuals. Look at Steve Bannon, henchman of Trump and confidante of Johnson, and you can see the path Tories would love to follow if they could get away with it. The Tories have well known links with some very dodgy and wealthy US pressure groups like the Edmund Burke foundation, Heritage org, National conservatives. Liz Truss was even over there demanding that Farage joins the Conservative Party to ‘get back our country’. The accusations about Cultural Marxism infecting our institutions is a good example of the way that extremist language is slowly becoming normalised and allowing conspiracy theories to take hold as well as suggestions that trans people have infiltrated the CS and khan is in league with Islamists. This is text book far right behaviour.

What do you mean by first line?

My comment was on the general direction we’re seeing in multiple countries. I thought it would be the case about a year or so ago and it is the case.

So what you seem to be saying in many, many words is "I can't think of any far right policies enacted by this government, despite their very large parliamentary majority".

Saponatheim · 14/03/2024 21:59

@CoatRack some of their policies are deemed far right like the Rwanda project. Their rhetoric is far right don’t you agree ? Hostile environment? Treatment of the Windrush generation. Culture wars. Denigration of minorities whether it be the poor, benefit claimants, disabled, immigrants, trans people.
The far right policies often don’t get through the Lords thank goodness but the intention is there.

cardibach · 14/03/2024 22:00

CoatRack · 14/03/2024 20:32

You're the one that said they were far right, and I don't believe you. Hence my questions.

The onus is on you to back up your assertion.

So far we seem to have narrowed it down to 'tries to remove some migrants', but that's not helping much.

Ok. You ignore the obvious drift. I’m not playing games about it.

ive given you several concrete examples of a drift to far right positions, as have other posters. The far right doesn’t turn up with jackboots etc. it’s a drift. Are you going to just let it happen because…we’ll, why, actually?

I couldn't care less what governments say; I care about what they do.

Evidently this one has not done anything far right because nobody can name anything, nor can they define it.

Recap those for me?

Do you not think their treatment of Refugees is unlawful? They aren't illegal migrants, they are Refugees.

Do you not think how they treated the windrush generation was pretty far right? That's what they DID.

Anti-Semitism is taken seriously in the Labour Party? Are you actually for f real?

There is no hierarchy of racism. This is identity politics bullshit. Racism is racism.

Edited

Oh, I can see you didn’t appreciate that. Don’t shoot the messenger, I didn’t write the report.

Why is that surprising to you considering that antisemitism is a problem for you, but yet you are happy to completely dismiss the rampant racism this woman faces?

Shouldgetupearlier · 14/03/2024 22:55

What about the anti - English/anti white from Humza and the SNP? Have you heard his white speech, and the hatred I. His voice as spoke? Have you seen the Police Scotland Hate Monster targeting you g white men?

What that Tory donor said about Diane Abbott was racist. Unambiguously. However, the constant claims that the Tories are institutionally racist, or “Islamophobic”, is a trick designed to take attention away from the anti-Semitic hatred of the left.

IdaPrentice · 14/03/2024 22:59

BeretInParis · 14/03/2024 18:55

Like most matters, there are shades of grey in this issue. All political parties are full of racist people. Just like society.

The Tories are not far right. Labour are not far left. They both occupy the centre-ish and snipe at each other. It's useful to label one another as being extreme to create division and lock in voters.

Diane Abbott is very accomplished and very bright but she's no saint, She should know better than to spout antisemitic rubbish. And Frank Hester was racist.

I encourage people to stop thinking along partisan lines and discover the grey in the world. The world would be much better for it.

100% this!!

What treatment? How many have been shot?
The illegal migrants don't deserve anything, on account of them entering the country illegally.

Oof. You've got me with the windrush, it was pretty far right of them to apologise and offer compensation etc...

coastalhawk · 14/03/2024 23:07

Fair question

Volbeat · 14/03/2024 23:08

Refugees have a legal right to seek asylum. Why are you being untruthful?

The windrush generation were offered compensation after they fought for their rights. I've yet to speak to any who have received such a thing.

If your moral compass is that lacking at least think before you speak.

Volbeat · 14/03/2024 23:12

And it was pretty far right of them to deport/detain them don't you think? Nah, course you don't. You're of the "I'm alright jack" mentality

LenaLamont · 14/03/2024 23:19

Wow, that descended into a bun fight awfully quickly!

@jokeynever - because Panorama investigations usually take many months of investigative journalism, they aren't just reacting to recent scandals.

(and of course the "is water wet?" comments are also valid - racism in many British institutions is endemic)

Volbeat · 14/03/2024 23:20

Off topic but water isn't actually wet - wet is a feeling.

Sorry 😆

I think you're a bit warped if you think deporting people is far right.

Some people break into your house one night.
You say: "Oi wtf get out"
They say: "but we're refugees"
You say: "why are you holding Eiffel tower souvenirs?"
They say: "...we're refugees"
You say (presumably): "Take my children's' rooms, stay as long as you like."

So virtuous

I don’t think you’ve been living in the UK… you couldn’t possibly have been to argue that claims of racism and Islamophobia are less legitimate than those of antisemitism.

Labour has not even been in government. Meanwhile:

  • Windrush
  • Hostile Environment
  • Islamophobia in the wake of Brexit
  • Stoking the culture wars (which Jewish people are also victims of, I do not think they’re doing this for their benefit)
  • Rwanda & Bibby Stockholm

That’s before you consider the amount of times they have hit the press because some MP cannot exercise basic judgement. Then that’s before you consider that poc are more likely to be working in class so existing socio economic disparities have worsened. It is not reasonable to think that one group has reason to complain but the rest of us should put up and shut up when arguably we deal with more consistent prejudice.

😂like @cardibach says, far right doesn’t mean jackboots at dawn or political opponents being rounded up and shot, it means shutting down the opposition, stopping democratic means of protesting, ostracising minorities to achieve a certain objective, encouraging ‘culture wars’ to divide people, trying to maliciously influence the democratic process like preventing individuals from voting….if those aren’t the actions of a government rapidly turning far right what are ? Many commentators have suggested that the Overton window is shifting and not just left supporting ones. Danny Kruger and Miriam Cates are great examples of influential mps deemed as up and coming whose views are decidedly dodgy, look them up…. But then you’re here to deflect aren’t you 😂

Deporting British people is. Learn your history.

Volbeat · 15/03/2024 06:56

@CoatRack I was refereeing to deportation/detaining people of the windrush generation. Considering you didn't pick up on that, I'm guessing you have no real clue what's been happening.

They didn't break in to anywhere or steal anywhere to use your crappy analogy.

As for so virtuous, you are so ignorant
