Neighbour using my drop kerb!

mykerb · 12/03/2024 20:54

A new family have moved in next door - not attached we are a row of two semi's each and so on..
I have a driveway and a dropped kerb. So it goes my drive, pavement and then the dropped kerb.

My next door neighbours have a make shift drive (from previous tenants) but NO dropped kerb, it doesn't help that their neighbours have 4 cars and two permanently parked outside their garden so the new neighbours have nowhere to park except down the road because of it but again not my problem!

They have started driving over my drop kerb to park in the make shift drive, I have started parking on my dropped kerb to make a point of it and I did block them in, to which the woman politely asked if I could move my car so she could reverse out, I told her I don't appreciate her using the kerb to park in, to which she replied that she is going to be getting the curb outside hers dropped but it will take a while due to getting planning permission etc and it's hard to walk down the road with 3 kids and a newborn so it's just been more convenient, but she won't do it again if it bothers me.

Tbh she hasn't had a chance to park there again as I have started parking in front of my drive, on my dropped kerb but my sister has said I'm being petty for no reason and making her life harder and it's not a big deal! And it's really irked me because now I don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not!

You are bring a bit petty op. It's just a dropped curb.

haveacat · 13/03/2024 14:40

I think I would be ashamed to admit to being so very unkind. ☹️

juice92 · 13/03/2024 14:42

Have I got this right? The neighbour is not parking on the dropped kerb, just using it to access their drive? So they aren't blocking the OP in, or in anyway stopping the OP accessing their own drive? The neighbour has also started the process of getting their kerb dropped, so meaning they won't be needing to do this at some point in the future?

I really don't see what the issue is here at all. I must have misunderstood the OP because I just don't get why someone would have a problem with this or why they would purposely block someone in.

Perhaps that neighbour needs to buh a house with more parking space then. Otherwise the additional cars will need to park in any spare spaces left or across their own dropped kerb. They will have go do this with OP neighbour has her dropped kerb installed. They may as well get used to it now. And if that is a big inconvenience to them tough luck, maybe move house with more parking for all those cars or maybe don't have so many cars for one household.

All true. But irrelevant because not within OP's control.

Thedogsdindins · 13/03/2024 14:51

Do you across the road to me 😂

I think the one legitimate objection would be about potential damage to the pavement. But some areas outside London allow parking partly or wholly on the pavement if wide enough. Maybe those pavements are made of sterner stuff!

Aworldofmyown · 13/03/2024 14:52

Incredibly petty.

Zaxi · 13/03/2024 15:02

"We had a mutual agreement that the other neighbours kids should be ..."

And how do the people that weren't at the signing of the agreement but are affected by the agreement, agree with your agreement?

chocolatemademefat · 13/03/2024 15:07

I’d be wanting to foster a decent relationship with my neighbors - you never know when you might need their help.

You must know how petty you’re being. Time for you to grow up.

He wasn't a retired vicar, was he?

<thinks of a neighbour we once had>

No. not sure what he did… he wore a boiler suit!

Vonesk · 13/03/2024 15:20

I think theres lots of issues here:
Neighbours have too many cars ( debateable )
And you and her KNOW a lot depends on YOUR cooperation in THEM being able to manage their PARKED cars.
At the end of the day its not your job to babysit them. Parking should be at own judgement / risk.
If she cant PARK / UNPARK then its tough cheddar. Thats life!!!!!!!
Thing is You feel OBLIGATED to be obliging. Not acceptable. I would say Do not give one inch as people have a habit of taking the Bisz.
Anyway WHY SHOULD YOU??????

Why should the OP not block the dropped kerb? Er, because it's illegal and the behaviour of a first class twat. That's why.

saffy2 · 13/03/2024 15:37

Kinneddar · 12/03/2024 21:08

It's pretty clear what she means 🙄

Diagrams aren't compulsory

I really think it’s not
clear. The only way I can picture this is that the neighbour is parking over the ops driveway, therefore obstructing the driveway. So I immediately thought the op is not being unreasonable. I’m reading others comments and figure I must have the wrong end of
the stick. But why under any circumstances would anyone pay to have a dropped
kerb that isn’t immediately in front of their driveway? I haven’t yet seen if op has done a diagram, but it
woukd help me understand what she’s talking about. And if she has indeed paid to drop a kerb that isn’t immediately in front of her driveway that’s really quite bizarre!!!

saffy2 · 13/03/2024 15:39

So having seen the diagram,
how can anyone think it’s ok for The neighbour to park on that dropped kerb? It obstructs ops drive if someone is parked there! I don’t understand the responses on this thread now that I’ve seen that diagram. Of course the neighbour should not be parking on that dropped kerb and obstructing someone’s driveway!!!

anniegun · 13/03/2024 15:41

You are the one breaking the law if you park across a dropped kerb. And you are being a very unpleasant neighbour

SusieKin · 13/03/2024 15:44

Surely if she’s parking on your dropped kerb and you’re in the driveway then she would be blocking your driveway and you wouldn’t be able to get out??

so YANBU

Rainraindontgoaway · 13/03/2024 15:44

mykerb · 12/03/2024 21:01

But I paid to have the kerb dropped?

It does not matter, the drop kerb does not belong to you, it is not on your property. You sound very unreasonable and childish.

Theyre not parking over the kerb. The OP is. The neighbours are using the dropped kerb to put their car on their property as they haven't got one yet

They aren't parking across it they are using it to drive onto their driveway

Moonfishstar · 13/03/2024 15:45

OP

Do you want to ridiculed and despised by your neighbours, and generally considered a mean-spirited pathetic human being?

Is that a price worth paying for preventing a car from temporarily going over a dropped kerb for what must be all of 5 seconds a couple of times a day. If you had a life, you wouldn’t even have noticed!

You’re simply a latter day Scrooge…

I think you need to re-read the OP as you’ve clearly completely misunderstood what’s going on!

No. Read the thread. The neighbour is using the dropped kerb which OP paid for to access her own driveway. The neighbour hasn’t paid for their own dropped kerb and is using the O0’s to illegally access their own drive from the road.

I’m sorry you are clearly so bitter and angry… but you reap what you sow. And pettiness and mean-spiritedness breeds this.
