Neighbour using my drop kerb!

mykerb · 12/03/2024 20:54

A new family have moved in next door - not attached we are a row of two semi's each and so on..
I have a driveway and a dropped kerb. So it goes my drive, pavement and then the dropped kerb.

My next door neighbours have a make shift drive (from previous tenants) but NO dropped kerb, it doesn't help that their neighbours have 4 cars and two permanently parked outside their garden so the new neighbours have nowhere to park except down the road because of it but again not my problem!

They have started driving over my drop kerb to park in the make shift drive, I have started parking on my dropped kerb to make a point of it and I did block them in, to which the woman politely asked if I could move my car so she could reverse out, I told her I don't appreciate her using the kerb to park in, to which she replied that she is going to be getting the curb outside hers dropped but it will take a while due to getting planning permission etc and it's hard to walk down the road with 3 kids and a newborn so it's just been more convenient, but she won't do it again if it bothers me.

Tbh she hasn't had a chance to park there again as I have started parking in front of my drive, on my dropped kerb but my sister has said I'm being petty for no reason and making her life harder and it's not a big deal! And it's really irked me because now I don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not!

Three kids and a new born! I think you’re being really unkind.

Springsombrero · 12/03/2024 21:04

What?! Sorry but you sound crackers.

BrunchYes · 12/03/2024 21:04

Can we see a photo or diagram of what you mean??

PurpleHiker · 12/03/2024 21:04

You should try and be more charitable if it’s not putting you out. It always pays to be nice to your neighbours, you’ll never know when you’ll need their help. And when that time comes they won’t forget your pettiness.

I think it would have been polite for her to have dropped you a note or knocked to say she's planning to get her kerb dropped and would you mind if she uses yours in the meantime, it's basic politeness

Elvis1956 · 12/03/2024 21:05

Have a little think here. You have to live next door to these people. What if you have a problem and need access to their land, or your drain blocks before it gets to their house but you need to get into the drain from their end. Personally I'd tell you to f off in their shoes.
You are being childish and you know you are. Pathetic.

You don't own the dripped kerb. It doesn't matter if you paid to have it dropped. Get a grip.

You are being petty here, you don’t own the pavement.

I would let this one go, you never know when you are going to need your neighbours to collect a parcel. You don’t want to burn bridges straight away

Casmama · 12/03/2024 21:06

Surely this is a reverse?!?
If not then please stop doing this OP and find something to occupy your time

Don’t - everyone thinks you are nuts already, don’t confirm it beyond all argument. Share the dropped kerb that you don’t own or have dominion over. Be a good neighbour, not a total asshat.

Kinneddar · 12/03/2024 21:07

my sister has said I'm being petty for no reason and making her life harder and it's not a big deal

Your sister is right. Your neighbour has explained & is getting the kerb dropped as soon as she can. Why would you want to make her life difficult. You're being incredibly petty. Be a nice neighbour. You never know when you might need her help

You're parking illegally if you block the dropped kerb

2Old2Tango · 12/03/2024 21:07

But it's not "your" kerb. Yes, you have to pay for the work to have a kerb dropped outside your driveway, but that doesn't give you ownership rights. Give your head a wobble woman and stop being such a dick. Are you always so horrible to new neighbours?

ZingyShaker · 12/03/2024 21:07

I don't think you're allowed to park over the dropped kerb, and I don't think technically it's "yours" unless you have purchased it, and are responsible for it and also for the pavement?

rainyskylight · 12/03/2024 21:08

Extremely mean and petty

It's pretty clear what she means 🙄

Diagrams aren't compulsory

Justcallmebebes · 12/03/2024 21:08

I have exactly the same situation. We have a dropped kerb and driveway. Neighbour doesn't and paved over garden to make a drive but no dropped kerb

She uses my drop to access her drive and I can't say I have ever given it a nanoseconds thought. Why would anyone be so bloody spiteful? What harm is it doing you?

DivorcedAndDelighted · 12/03/2024 21:09

I wonder if there's something that isn't coming across here? When your neighbour drives across the dropped kerb to park on her drive, does it block you in, or stop you parking in your normal place?
Or is your objection only that you paid for the kerb to be dropped, so she shouldn't be getting free use of it?

Londonrach1 · 12/03/2024 21:09

You are petty and what you doing is illegal. You can not park across a dropped kerb. Yabu and a nasty neighbour. The kerb does not belong to you!

AutumnBride · 12/03/2024 21:09

Get yourself over there in the morning and apologise, say you've given it some thought and as it's a temporary arrangement of course they can use the drop kerb to access their off road parking.

ExpertNutritionalistAndBestSellingAuthor · 12/03/2024 21:09

Surely the OP is pulling our leg?

Projectme · 12/03/2024 21:09

Wow! Yes, YABU. Most definitely. She's been polite etc. Can't you just help her out until she gets the kerb dropped? Just because you paid to get the kerb outside your house dropped doesn't make you the arbitrator of who uses it!

Caerulea · 12/03/2024 21:09

Well. You sound awful. For the sake of someone mounting the kerb in front of your house to get to their drive (makeshift is one word btw, petty of me to point out but not nearly so petty as you're being) you'd rather she struggle up the road with kids & baby?

You might have paid for the kerb to be dropped but you still don't own it, you'll not be taking it with you when you move. That new bit of air above the lowered bit isn't yours.

Christ, what a bloody miserable post.
