Neighbour using my drop kerb!

mykerb · 12/03/2024 20:54

A new family have moved in next door - not attached we are a row of two semi's each and so on..
I have a driveway and a dropped kerb. So it goes my drive, pavement and then the dropped kerb.

My next door neighbours have a make shift drive (from previous tenants) but NO dropped kerb, it doesn't help that their neighbours have 4 cars and two permanently parked outside their garden so the new neighbours have nowhere to park except down the road because of it but again not my problem!

They have started driving over my drop kerb to park in the make shift drive, I have started parking on my dropped kerb to make a point of it and I did block them in, to which the woman politely asked if I could move my car so she could reverse out, I told her I don't appreciate her using the kerb to park in, to which she replied that she is going to be getting the curb outside hers dropped but it will take a while due to getting planning permission etc and it's hard to walk down the road with 3 kids and a newborn so it's just been more convenient, but she won't do it again if it bothers me.

Tbh she hasn't had a chance to park there again as I have started parking in front of my drive, on my dropped kerb but my sister has said I'm being petty for no reason and making her life harder and it's not a big deal! And it's really irked me because now I don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not!

I’m intrigued. Are you going to do something nice for the neighbour after realising how unkind you’ve been?

I think it's too late. The neighbour will avoid her now she knows that she's gratuitously spiteful.

FoxeyLady · 13/03/2024 12:54

So she's said sorry, explained why she did it and advised she won't do it it again and you're still annoyed? Wow what problems you have in life 🙄

dutysuite · 13/03/2024 12:58

I think it’s petty, if it helped my neighbour out until she had sorted her own drop kerb then I’d be telling her to use mine!

Everythinggreen · 13/03/2024 13:00

Maybe you should sprawl on the kerb while staring at her while she's holding her newborn and hiss at her other kids, so she knows not to mess with your kerb. Mark that territory!

Neighbour using my drop kerb!
LakieLady · 13/03/2024 13:00

Fuck me, I thought I was being petty by being pissed off that the woman across the road leaves all her bins and her food waste container out on the grass verge all the time, but being annoyed by someone driving over a public part of the street for what, maybe a second or two? really trumps that.

You clearly have very few worries or irritations in your life if that is worth getting annoyed about, especially when the woman has 3 children and a newborn, and YABVU, not to mention unneighbourly.

I really never expected this thread to get this far!

Are you new to Mumsnet? 😂

it's a parking thread, it will run forever.

Araminta1003 · 13/03/2024 13:04

That is really unkind OP if she has 3 kids and a newborn! And her next door neighbours with their 4 cars too, how horrible and how unwelcoming to a new neighbour.

Or is this a reverse? Are you the mum with the newborn?

Araminta1003 · 13/03/2024 13:06

Incidentally, my elderly neighbour has been driving over one of my dropped kerbs for years, never bothered me one bit! She cannot get another dropped kerb so close to mine so she has no choice anyway.

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/03/2024 13:08

Christ on a bike, I can't believe what I'm reading. If you were my sister I'd be ashamed. Life is too short to be this petty and ridiculous. Be helpful and kind instead, you'll feel a whole lot better.

Absolutely not!!!!! Being unreasonable!!!!!!!!!
If people ' use' your property it incurrs ' FEES' PLAIN and Simple. Theres no FREE LUNCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a similar problem years ago where ( in my close) adjacent to my property: A Row of Garages Right next to a detached house. ....THE GARAGE AT THE END IS MINE and its right next to the house where the owner was allowing friends to park their car next to her HOUSE but right in the drive- to - MY GARAGE
WELL ( my mind said " keep calm" but the RAGE started bubbling up). I Knocked on her door ( fuming!!!! ) ..aling came the excuses, one after the other. " ITS QUITE SIMPLE.". OK said.....
" IF YOU WANT TO USE THAT FACILITY, its going to cost you £20 per week to park there ( it was 20 years ago so fee now would be more)
" Oh no ." She retorted. Its only there because Ive been in hospital, it WONT happen again."
Well, a few week later A MOTORBIKE APPEARED, PARKED ACROSS the drive to my garage. RIGHT !!!!!!!!! I thought!!!!! ......I got a tin of SARDINES , MASHED THEM all up. I was just on my way to dump on the seat of the motor bike when he came out her house ( her boyfriend) so then drove off. NO INCIDENTS SINCE.

You sound utterly vile. What is wrong with you?

Justus6 · 13/03/2024 13:12

This is really outstanding!! You are completely in the wrong! You do realise the kurb does not belong to you they have every right to use it they pay their car tax just like you. Like how selfish do you need to be to force what sounds like a really nice woman struggle up the road with 4 kids..

If I where you I'd get a grip go apologise for thinking you can prevent them from using the public road and stop blocking her access to her drive! Insert expletive here!!

Delphiniumandlupins · 13/03/2024 13:16

Let her know you have come to your senses and she is welcome to cross the dropped kerb until hers is done. Hope that nobody gets the local traffic wardens to come out because everybody parking across a dropped kerb could get a parking ticket (doesn't matter if its beside your driveway or garage)

listsandbudgets · 13/03/2024 13:17

So you're effectively blocking the pavement in order to make a point to your neighbours.

I bet you're flavour of the month with anyone who needs to use a wheelchair or a pram or is blind or has small children ... or just like most of us doesn't like walking out into the road.

I wouldn't give a damn about your neighbours but as a pedestrian I'd be really miffed about you blocking the pavement...

Scarletttulips · 12/03/2024 21:58

I think your neighbour would be better off speaking to her neighbour about the teen cars preventing her parking outside her own home (and no she doesn’t own the road) but they are causing her issue more that’s OP is!

Teens can walk miles so it won’t hurt them.

So do I.

Your neighbour shouldn't be driving into her drive or her kerb is not dropped

mykerb · 12/03/2024 21:03

Not really, it just irks me how they use my kerb to angle themselves into their "driveway"

She’s got a newborn, she sounds civil. Just let it be.

There are soooooo many things wrong in this world. Don’t add to it for a reason that you don’t even fully understand.

@suburburban I spoke to her today (20 minutes ago! as we was putting our bins out.. she said she spoke to the other neighbours who told her their kids can park where they want as there is no drop kerb!
She explained that permission has been granted, just waiting for council to give their list of approved contractors she has to choose from, so I'm sure it's a very short term fix. She said she felt very awkward herself thinking about it, and she has been parking down the road.
We had a mutual agreement that the other neighbours kids should be parking on their drop kerb just for ease of the road and parking available so I'm trying to mend this ...

So did you mend it by telling her she can use your gold plated dropped kerb short term instead of parking down the road with a newborn and young kids, or did you just agree the other neighbours were wrong and went about your day?

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have so many questions but no words both at the same time. Fucking.Hell.

Bordesleyhills · 13/03/2024 13:38

4 children and she crossing your drive . Poor lady , going out with everyone must be so stressful. I hope you never need them to help you. Living next door to your neighbours is give and take.

Mazpaz · 13/03/2024 13:42

It doesn’t take that long for planning permission for this
plus if your kerb breaks with the extra usage of cars is she going to fork out for repairs
Why can’t she ask her neighbours to leave a space for her
I would be annoyed that she did this without asking. But it is good to keep on good terms with the neighbours

Pinkespressomachine · 13/03/2024 13:46

What a charmed life you must lead to consider this a problem. You acknowledge your neighbour has a genuine need with a plan in place to address the dropped kerb and that she has handled your comments with courtesy, agreeing to refrain in future.

What more can this woman do to appease you? I don’t say this often but you sound quite unpleasant.
