Neighbour using my drop kerb!

mykerb · 12/03/2024 20:54

A new family have moved in next door - not attached we are a row of two semi's each and so on..
I have a driveway and a dropped kerb. So it goes my drive, pavement and then the dropped kerb.

My next door neighbours have a make shift drive (from previous tenants) but NO dropped kerb, it doesn't help that their neighbours have 4 cars and two permanently parked outside their garden so the new neighbours have nowhere to park except down the road because of it but again not my problem!

They have started driving over my drop kerb to park in the make shift drive, I have started parking on my dropped kerb to make a point of it and I did block them in, to which the woman politely asked if I could move my car so she could reverse out, I told her I don't appreciate her using the kerb to park in, to which she replied that she is going to be getting the curb outside hers dropped but it will take a while due to getting planning permission etc and it's hard to walk down the road with 3 kids and a newborn so it's just been more convenient, but she won't do it again if it bothers me.

Tbh she hasn't had a chance to park there again as I have started parking in front of my drive, on my dropped kerb but my sister has said I'm being petty for no reason and making her life harder and it's not a big deal! And it's really irked me because now I don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not!

I'm really not sure that I understand this thread, although I've looked at the diagrams etc. OP could you explain how this impacts on your life, routine etc? I can't honestly see the inconvenience caused 🤔

TheIceQween · 13/03/2024 11:49

Imagine if she gets her kerb dropped, you return home and someone has parked over your dropped kerb…. DUN DUN DDUUUUUUUNNNNNN

Emmz1510 · 13/03/2024 11:51

So they are not blocking you in or inconveniencing you in any way? They aren’t actually parking on the dropped kerb they are just driving over it to get into their driveway?
Since it isn’t your kerb and they aren’t actually blocking you I think you are being unreasonable. You are also breaking the law I believe by parking on the kerb to prevent them using it.

purplehotdogs · 13/03/2024 11:56

It's NOT YOUR KERB 😂of course YABU.

Vonesk · 13/03/2024 11:56

Absolutely not!!!!! Being unreasonable!!!!!!!!!
If people ' use' your property it incurrs ' FEES' PLAIN and Simple. Theres no FREE LUNCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a similar problem years ago where ( in my close) adjacent to my property: A Row of Garages Right next to a detached house. ....THE GARAGE AT THE END IS MINE and its right next to the house where the owner was allowing friends to park their car next to her HOUSE but right in the drive- to - MY GARAGE
WELL ( my mind said " keep calm" but the RAGE started bubbling up). I Knocked on her door ( fuming!!!! ) ..aling came the excuses, one after the other. " ITS QUITE SIMPLE.". OK said.....
" IF YOU WANT TO USE THAT FACILITY, its going to cost you £20 per week to park there ( it was 20 years ago so fee now would be more)
" Oh no ." She retorted. Its only there because Ive been in hospital, it WONT happen again."
Well, a few week later A MOTORBIKE APPEARED, PARKED ACROSS the drive to my garage. RIGHT !!!!!!!!! I thought!!!!! ......I got a tin of SARDINES , MASHED THEM all up. I was just on my way to dump on the seat of the motor bike when he came out her house ( her boyfriend) so then drove off. NO INCIDENTS SINCE.

BIossomtoes · 13/03/2024 11:59

Except the dropped kerb isn't the OP's property.

It’s not your kerb
It’s not your pavement
It’s not your road

exactly this!

Nevermind31 · 13/03/2024 12:04

Not your kerb. And parking in front of a dropped kerb is illegal.

Vonesk · 13/03/2024 12:07

Its not Your Kerb till The Council charge you £10,000 to have a ' dropped kerb ' put in front of your house.

Keep parking there, *
Dont keep getting out of bed so she can ' drive to a position which suits her'

It’s still not her kerb. It never will be her kerb. It belongs to the council in perpetuity.

No, it's never your kerb.

As for "keep parking there"' why would you want to be such a petty twat? What is wrong with some people?

I would feel exactly the same

This.

Even if they charge you £100,000 it's still not 'your' kerb.

Sallydimebar · 13/03/2024 12:24

This is what puts me off ever moving! I’m so lucky to have the neighbours I have . If they were blocking you coming and going, I would totally understand but I can’t see it causing you any issues.

We live next to a school and as you can imagine our drive is blocked sometimes but life is short , pick your battles.

Guy near the post office puts 4 cones outside his house every day for his van, people need to realise they don’t own the road /pavement outside their property.

AmethystSparkles · 13/03/2024 12:28

You sound like a very very unkind person. Most people wouldn’t even notice something like this. Most people don’t think in the same way as you. You must be very unhappy.

You could try being nice and see how rewarding it feels. I’d recommend doing some work on yourself. Perhaps listen to some Ajahn Brahm talks on YouTube. Turn your life around before karma comes to bite you on the arse.

newnamethanks · 13/03/2024 12:30

I bet she's thrilled to have moved next door to you. I hope she reports you for parking across a dropped kerb. You deserve a fine.

Happinessisnowhere · 13/03/2024 12:32

3 children and a newborn, have a heart, please!

RollaCola84 · 13/03/2024 12:39

I really never expected this thread to get this far!

I see from your updates OP that you understand you are in the wrong here… I don’t know how you’ll unpick this with your neighbour. I have a v small baby and my neighbours are extremely helpful to us, on every possible occasion. Poor woman.

FourLimesAndSomeMangeTout · 13/03/2024 12:45

Astoundingly petty. Though I would feel aggrieved by the road hogging 4 car family too.

Honestly OP, I hope you have seen sense and are cringing at your own miserly attitude. If not, I hope those 4 kids keep the noise down in the garden this summer 😉as I am sure any complaints from you will be met by deaf ears.

Rhubarbx1 · 13/03/2024 12:46

GwinGwyn · 12/03/2024 21:06

Don’t - everyone thinks you are nuts already, don’t confirm it beyond all argument. Share the dropped kerb that you don’t own or have dominion over. Be a good neighbour, not a total asshat.

Best response 🙌

Op, I totally agree with this person, you're being an asshat

amyds2104 · 13/03/2024 12:47

I’m intrigued. Are you going to do something nice for the neighbour after realising how unkind you’ve been?
