Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

I really admire the Tories who are calling this out. It takes courage to do so when your leader won't.

Reugny · 12/03/2024 12:49

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 12:44

Kwasi Kwarteng on BBC politics live has also stated that Hester's commnets are clearly racist and sexist and that they were very stupid remarks.

Finally a sitting Tory MP has spoken!

What one sitting MP!?!

Lampzade · 12/03/2024 12:51

Abhannmor · 12/03/2024 12:25

Considering two MPs have been brutally murdered in recent years these comments are unforgivable.

Exactly
What this racist Tory donor said is incitement to cause harm
All you need is some racist nutter who hears the views of the racist /sexist Tory donor and decides that Dianne Abbot is public enemy number one and decides to attack her and even kill her. The sad thing is that this is not hyperbole, we have witnessed this in recent times
Any decent person would condemn this man , whatever Dianne Abbot’s perceived faults.
I honestly don’t know how she copes

IClaudine · 12/03/2024 12:55

Reugny · 12/03/2024 12:50

What one sitting MP!?!

Well, two. Kwasi Kwarteng and Helen Grant, who has sponsored the EDM. Yes, I do admire them for speaking out. Maybe more will be brave enough to follow. I hope so.

MermaidGin · 12/03/2024 12:56

Hey guess what? The Tories and their supporters are a racist bunch of c**ts. Who knew?!

Now please vote them OUT!
Thanks.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/03/2024 12:56

I don't like her. BUT what that man said about her is absolutely disgusting. She really should get the police involved.

Kasumu said that originally he had not wanted to give an interview on this topic. But he said he changed his mind when he saw how much this mattered to his wife, who is black. He explained:

"When I told her about the words that were said, and I saw the look on her face, I understood that I had a moral obligation to speak up and speak out and say that actually words like this matter, and they’re totally unacceptable."

Edited

Good for him...and his wife.

I thought Diane Abbot's statement was powerful too. I hope she has support around her.

Good.

He has encapsulated how so many black women feel about Diane and what she represents in modern british politics.
The denigrating, the constant ridiculing often from members of her own party.
It's disgusting and infuriating, the constant need for everyone to let us know how much they don't like her, think she's, stupid, dumb ,daft or whatever zesty adjective they've chosen.

We see those comments, we read what labour staffers say about her, we read what labour MPs say about her, we see the barely concealed misogyny and racism which is continually overlooked unless it's politically useful.

Its never-ending

Absolutely. I posted a clip earlier of one of Diane's constituency officers talking about the abuse she is sent. These people are unhinged and could take what Hester said as encouragement to go further.

Reugny · 12/03/2024 12:50

What one sitting MP!?!

No. Several including Starmer.

MermaidGin · 12/03/2024 13:03

Shame on the Tories. Shame. Disgusting behaviour.

Clavinova · 12/03/2024 13:05

Alltheprettyseahorses · 12/03/2024 09:04

It's sickening. I have a bit of a soft spot for Diane Abbott, I am angry at the amount of abuse she gets. The Tories must immediately fully condemn what he said without any equivocation and drop any contact with him. His NHS contract may need looking into as well, I don't know if there are any rules regarding the private behaviour of suppliers though.

I am also angry at the hypocrisy of the Labour Party in their confected whinging about it. While they have in their ranks John McDonnell who called for Esther McVey to be lynched and Wes Streeting who said he wanted to push a woman journalist under a train - actual MPs not just donors - along with party members who abuse Labour and other MPs - they have no room to talk.

Hester's remarks were clearly unacceptable.

With regards to John McDonnell/Esther McVey - Diane Abbott herself refused to condemn her colleague's 'lynching jibe' in an interview with Andrew Marr in 2017;

CurlewKate · 12/03/2024 13:08

@Daisybuttercup12345 "I don't like her."

This isn't directed at you specifically- you're just as an example of a lot of posts. Why did you say that you didn't like her? How does that affect how you react to this awful man?

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 13:10

This isn't whatabout Labour

This is about a Conservative donor's racist and sexist comments and the Conservative Party's reaction

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 13:10

Unacceptable in what way clav?

Can you bring yourself to say a Tory donor is a racist?

BIossomtoes · 12/03/2024 13:10

Two wrongs don’t make a right, Clav. And the flow of threats and hate mail into Diane Abbott’s office is relentless.

IClaudine · 12/03/2024 13:13

Clavinova · 12/03/2024 13:05

And what has that got to do with what Hester said? Does it lessen the misogyny and racism? Does it negate the fact that Diane has had racist and misogynist abuse piled on her for decades?

Can you not just condemn Hester without point scoring?

LadyKenya · 12/03/2024 13:13

Ah the cut, and paste queen is back! How surprising🙄

bombastix · 12/03/2024 13:14

Sunak is busy defining what an extremist today is but apparently doesn't know what racism is.

10 million questions as to why that is.

Clavinova · 12/03/2024 13:17

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 13:10

This isn't whatabout Labour

To quote Diane Abbott from the article;

Ms Abbott refused to condemn [McDonnell's comments] and dismissed the questions as political 'finger pointing'.

She told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show: 'I wasn't at that meeting.

'I believe he was quoting from somebody else. But let me repeat it undermines the case against sexual abuse and sexual harassment if we try to make it a problem of a particular party or a particular faction.

Perhaps Michelle Donelan could spend her time look into this, rather than rushing to make unfounded public attacks demanding two women in academia be cancelled, and costing the taxpayer thousands in damages.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 13:19

Clav was what Hester said racist?

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 13:22

It's still whataboutery about Labour @Clavinova and nothing to do with Conservative donor Hester's comments and the reaction from the Conservative Party

(edited spellling mistake)

IClaudine · 12/03/2024 13:22

Honestly clav, this isn't a good look.
