Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

Absolutely. Frankly the misery men, particularly white men, inflict on the world, I know which way round this should be IF ANY (no, I don’t want anyone to be shot)

It's not just white men who inflict misery, it's men of all nations, colours and religions.

But that aside, the Tories should immediately repay the donation and Hester should be arrested for incitement to violence. There's been three MP's murdered and others attacked whilst doing their jobs. To say nothing of the racist misogyny. Oh, and he should lose any contracts he has for the NHS.

Am I the only person who thinks that in no wayshould the Tories give the disgusting racist Hester a £10m handout? They should keep that money but refuse any further dealings with him.

Perhaps, rather than giving it back, they should donate it to an anti racist charity? Or spend it on an investigation into racism within the Tory party?

Yes. Donating it to a suitable charity or campaign group seems like the only reasonable thing to do. But that would require integrity, transparency, compassion and a true commitment to doing what is actually right rather than a focus on what looks good enough and won’t cost too many votes. Sunak is a tiny spineless wonder. Totally out of touch with reality. Never was PM material. I hated Cameron for what he did, but god I’d have him back over this idiot any day.

How are these comments any different to the one by Frank Hester, except for the gender and the skin colour of the people you are insulting?

Because white men, as a group, have not been historically oppressed. They don’t face systemic and systematic abuse and discrimination based on gender or skin colour. On the whole it is this group of people that have consistently, in history and now, oppressed people of colour and women. Totally different. We are not that far away from it being legal for a man to beat and rape his wife or for white people to own, trade and abuse people of colour. History and context is everything.

Do you mean I am insulting men? I was responding to a post which claimed that most misery in the world was specifically caused by white men. I agreed in so much as we live in a patriarchal society where war is usually started by men, and where women and children suffer the highest consequences. However, war and misery is not just the preserve of white men. It is started by men across the globe. That's not racist or sexist, it is a fact.

the many MN posters who refer to Hester as a ‘Tory’ are hypocrites. After all , the particular party he supports is totally irrelevant - there are racists in every political party.

Piggywaspushed · 13/03/2024 17:55

It's not hypocrisy. The point is he is the party's largest donor. And made the racist comments about a Labour MP.

Eh? It was pretty funny when they were saying he says racist things but isn't a racist - now you are saying he gave the Tories £10million but he isn't a Tory?
😂

And the racists in all parties should all be called out. However, it is of course relevant that Hester is a major Tory donor, that the PM was slow to condemn his remarks as racist, and that they apparently have no intention of returning the £10million that they have received from this disgraceful man.

The Tory Party cannot be held responsible for the racist behaviour of individuals who happen to support it, but it is entirely responsible for how it responds to such incidents when they are uncovered. There is nothing even slightly hypocritical for pointing this out. All parties should be held accountable for how they deal with racism in their ranks.

It's relevant because donations of that vast size buy you access to the Prime Minister. Google it - Hester's been on multiple trips with Cameron & Johnson and has had private conversations with Sunak.

Blimey, the quality of Tory spammers really has plummeted, hasn't it?😂

If you want your DARVO to work, you'll have to be a bit better at it.

Haven't rtwt but the Speaker needs to be shown the door too.
If ever there was a time to let Diane Abbot speak it was today.
She stood up time and again and time and again she was ignored.
Says it all really.

Yeah, wasn't impressed at all at that.Angry

Imagine if Corbyn defenders had said Corbyn wasn’t anti-semitic but his comments were so all ok. It’s mind boggling.

46 times she stood up apparently, and not one chance to speak.

Astonishing given that most of PMQs was focused on comments made about her and threats made against her.

I am struggling to get my head round what on earth the speaker was playing at. Frankly, all of the other MPs should have refused to speak until she had been given a chance to have her say.

Shocking to exclude her entirely.

Westfacing · 13/03/2024 19:04

I must have missed them but have there been any TV interviews with Dianne Abbot?

And the miscreant himself has he spoken to any journalists?

Astonishing but are we really surprised?

Heaven knows how that woman has continued as an MP for 37 years.

Gaslighting her, business as usual.

How Diane Abbott has managed to stay so dignified in the face of all this abuse for so many years, I really don't know. The mental health of mistreatment would be in pieces by now.

By standing for elections and being re-elected which I suspect is much more than you (or I) could manage.

I think @Maggiethecat probably meant "how has she been able to remain an MP given all the abuse she's suffered".

I read it to mean "how has she managed to put up with such appalling treatment as an MP for 37 years". But now I can see it how you read it.

I am bemused by how so many people believe the daily fail spin. I'm another who has had the utter pleasure of meeting and speaking to her. She was warm - and interested in what I was saying, and appeared to know the importance of what I was talking about. I am also someone who wore odd shoes to a funeral. One black, one brown.

cakeorwine · 13/03/2024 21:11

I hope she gets selected for a question at PMQs soon. Sunak won't be able to avoid her or the question.

Quite.

We constantly hear about the abuse she gets more than any other MP and she is commonly derided for lacking intelligence.

And yet she prevails.

IsawwhatIsaw · 13/03/2024 21:13

Why was Diane Abbott not called to speak today? Apparently she stood up more than 30 times in the H of C but was not invited to speak.
instead the 2 male leaders held the floor.
why is this acceptable?
