To think the response to Kate’s illness and photo is insane?

Grosshesselohe · 11/03/2024 15:58

And that the public are approaching levels of hysteria not seen since Diana’s funeral?

I’ve put this in AIBU not Royal because it’s the only way to get a vote - and hopefully restore faith in our collective common sense.

YABU - the dramatic response is completely justified

YANBU - people are acting like loons & should leave Kate alone

KP haven’t made a “huge mistake”. Just because the media and a few fanatics keep saying it, doesn’t make it true.

It reminds me of this stanza from Kipling’s poem:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise

IMO they have, because their comms team should have realised the relevance of the photo and made sure it was 100% non controversial.

Personally I’m happy with photo editing, I know it’s widespread, but why give ammunition to the loonies out there?

sweepleall · 12/03/2024 16:29

The reaction to the illness has been insane, I agree.

The reaction to our future head of state faking (not touching up ) a photo released to the world media has actually been quite tame.

I know the royalists want to make this about Harry and Meghan or cheese or whatever but it's actually quite possible not to be Sussex squad or whatever and critical of William and Kate here

Sunflowerfieldsinsummer · 12/03/2024 16:31

Tell that to Meghan..Meghan would never make a mistake… according to Meghan

sweepleall · 12/03/2024 16:35

DryIce · 12/03/2024 14:13

I am not a royalist, or conspiracy theorist, and didn't really give a shit about any of this hoopla.

Until the news about that photo - a future head of state issuing information that is so edited reputable news companies refuse to use it, the media publicly calling the royal family's approved information unreliable. well that does seem like news actually.

The whole royal family is basically a PR business, it seems such a nonsensical cock up. They didn't need to issue anything, they'd already said she was off ill/recuperating. One of the most PR focused businesses in the world making such a series of ham fisted decisions does make you wonder why - what could be worse than how they're making themselves appear now!

Totally agree.

Either they have the worst PR advisors money can buy or William and Kate are personally making these very poor decisions

Sources close to...seriously thus shit is whatvpeople seem to take as fact even if the person themselves hasn't said it.

It goes for whether it's sources close to meghan or I read today sources close to the RF say Catherine is beside herself worried

It's speculative bs!

Sunflowerfieldsinsummer · 12/03/2024 19:57

I’m pretty sure she’d be issuing a rebuttal via Scobie if the sources weren’t instructed by her. Unfortunately Meghan has form for this. She has been smearing and leaking and insinuating for years.

I had major abdominal surgery and was signed off for three months, several years ago. In that time, none of my colleagues heard from me, but not one of them thought I must be dead, or in a coma, or abducted by aliens, or replaced by a robot me, or horribly disfigured from an accident on the operating theatre, or run away to start a new life in Alaska. They knew I wasn’t expected back for three months, so when I started back they said hello and asked me how I was. Why isn’t it the same for her?

People in this country have gone nuts in the past ten years or so. So willing to be manipulated by politicians and conspiracy theorists, lives playing out like episodes of Jeremy Kyle. It’s like real life and the internet can’t be separated in their minds.

The mistake that Kensington Palace has made is allowing the collective madness to cause them to stop holding the line.

Your last paragraph, I absolutely agree. They should have just left it. The difference is - they didn't!

In your example, your colleagues may have been plodding along hoping you were doing fine. But if your husband sent them a demonstrably false picture of you captioned SmashedPrawns is absolutely fine - it may have raised some eyebrows.

Again, I am not into the speculation - I don't have any information to be able to determine why, so it seems a pointless exercise. Presumably it could be as simple as she doesn't want to be seen not looking her best, and fair enough.

But the future king essentially lying to us, and trying to use reputable (not tabloid!) media to do it is a big deal. And if you do submit false information and are found out, the obvious question is why would you do that?!

Ironfloor269 · 13/03/2024 08:44

Hopefully now William and Kate will empathise with the horrendous media circus Meghan had to suffer.

SheepAndSword · 13/03/2024 08:49

@SmashedPrawnsInAMilkyBasket what did you have done if you don't mind me asking? Please ignore if I'm being too curious.

I'm a bit surprised the photo was manipulated to that extent.

coffeeandcake91 · 13/03/2024 08:59

I think when you project the image of a perfect, can do nothing wrong, not a hair out of place family, you open yourself up to critique and questions if something looks off.

She absolutely has a right to privacy especially when it concerns her health. The issue is no one is believing what the palace is saying.

People are no longer accepting the narrative they're presenting. There's A LOT of stories and guesswork making the rounds on social media. And the majority, if not all of it, is likely not true. However, when you give the public tiny tidbits completely outside of the norm, then expect speculation.

I can see both sides, but the level of coverage it's getting is ridiculous. I don't believe for one second the image was real and she edited it. KP threw her under the bus. And I don't believe the car picture is real. A lot of people online are genuinely concerned for her well-being.

I think a lot of people are becoming Kate and William fans after seeing this insane trolling against them!!

This poll is pretty conclusive- 83% !

Most people see this coverage as utter made up bollocks from trolls & the media. Which is what it is.

Kate had an operation and will be back after Easter. It’s not rocket science

Basically because she’s not you, she’s one of the most famous women in the world who has just put out a photograph that is so heavily edited round her face that respected agencies won’t use it due to concerns over its authenticity.

Novella4 · 13/03/2024 09:28

@Gstaad
Just -no.

Kensington palace released the photo , they stated that William took it ‘last week’ ( that was clearly not true)
The photo was obviously an attempt to mislead - the international news agencies rejected it based on its lack of veracity.

If the international agencies had not issued the kill notice would there still be fawning articles in the British tabloids and would the BBC still have the photo on their website ?

That the ‘royals’ lie is no surprise to many . That these lies are rarely if ever scrutinised by so called journalists is another scandal in my opinion .

Keep going - but just remember the overwhelming majority of people will think you’re obsessed and probably a bit weird.
