To think the response to Kate’s illness and photo is insane?

Grosshesselohe · 11/03/2024 15:58

And that the public are approaching levels of hysteria not seen since Diana’s funeral?

I’ve put this in AIBU not Royal because it’s the only way to get a vote - and hopefully restore faith in our collective common sense.

YABU - the dramatic response is completely justified

YANBU - people are acting like loons & should leave Kate alone

I think there is a conversation to be had on if the palace deliberately misled the public and used an old photo.

but the hysteria is batshit. It reminds me of Diana. People guessing at coma, or stoma , or death, divorce, Pippa, body doubles.

i honestly can’t beleive what I’m reading.

ExtraOnions · 11/03/2024 16:43

Someone in the public eye edited a photograph.. baffled as to why this is news

Lampslights · 11/03/2024 16:44

I found it amazing that Kate didn't have any rings on - that is a pretty big point to make so publicly!!! 😯

it’s even started on here. This is beyond crazy. She’s has an op, it’s ok to take her rings off. People do; it’s utterly crazy to suggest she’s making a point.

it’s like Britney, people thinking she was giving subliminal messages, crazy ass stuff.

You're not alone, @Lampslights; I'm leaving the frankly unhinged threads well alone, apart from having a wry smile at how busy they've become

I've said this before, but let's just be thankful SM wasn't really around when Diana died ... it would have broken the internet Hmm

Lampslights · 11/03/2024 16:57

It’s must be very disconcerting for Kate and her family how obsessed people are with her.

i mean the king has cancer, is seldom seen, no one knows what type and it is like no one gives a shit. The internet is silent on it. Bit of a flurry at the start when he announced and nothing more.

but Kate has abdominal surgery, she also doesn’t appear in public and it’s mass fucking hysteria.

scalt · 11/03/2024 17:00

What is the government trying to hide? What have they instructed spin doctors to distract us from?

SoupDragon · 11/03/2024 17:06

What's even more insane is the frothing of the people complaining about the threads started on MN outside of the "Royal Family" topic 😂😂

Grosshesselohe · 11/03/2024 17:18

HelloMiss · 11/03/2024 16:19

Half of us can't vote ! So it's not gaining a true picture

Pointless

Why can’t you vote?

What?

are they handing out tin foil hats as you log into mumsnet or what?

skippy67 · 11/03/2024 17:24

What hysteria? Oh, your own...

Grosshesselohe · 11/03/2024 17:29

skippy67 · 11/03/2024 17:24

What hysteria? Oh, your own...

You’ve lost me? Please explain?

Incredibly reassuring to see that 84% of Mumsnetters agree and that the vocal conspiracy nuts are just a very noisy minority!

OP posts:
fratellia · 11/03/2024 17:42

Yeah it’s a bit crazy but I have been enjoying all the memes

Runnerinthenight · 11/03/2024 17:49

It's beyond crazy! I think W&K should have maintained the party line - that she had had an op and would be back working around Easter. They've just fed the beast now!

I refuse to read anything into any of it. If there's anything to find out, then it will come out in time. If not, then nothing to see here, move on.

Tittyfilarious · 11/03/2024 17:55

I think all the hysteria is a bit ott but I think the way the palace has handled the media has whipped it all up so they are partly to blame .

NotAllowed · 11/03/2024 17:58

Honestly who gives a shit

FourLimesAndSomeMangeTout · 11/03/2024 18:00

Reassured that you are incredibly reassured OP.

I'd guess the dead cat is to distract from taxpayers paying out damages caused by cabinet minister Michelle Donelan's bonkers, unjustified and public attack on two women in academia.

She tried to get them cancelled... but as she hadn't done even the basics of her homework, got it badly wrong.

Unfortunately this came with a large bill.

"In a statement posted to X on Tuesday, Ms Donelan admitted she was wrong and had "misunderstood" the social media posts."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68486206

It ought to be career-ending for her. And devastating for Sunak's government, that this is what his ministers are up to.

But I haven't seen a single thread about it. Meanwhile 4 out of 5 of the Trending threads are about the Princess of Wales' Mother's Day photo release.

<shrug>

We get the government we deserve.

Oh FFS please stop ALL the threads about this

This.
How many of the "you're all mad, you lot" threads did you think we needed @Grosshesselohe ?

Seriously.

Yet here you are with another.

LondonQueen · 11/03/2024 18:08

Threads like this are hysteria!

nopenotplaying · 11/03/2024 18:16

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/03/2024 16:22

Can vote but won't vote

That'll be me at the next election. But that's a whole new series of threads we have to look forward to 😂

SilkFloss · 11/03/2024 18:17

Talking of hysteria, did we we really need so many people to jump on the bandwagon of attacking the OP for starting a thread (with, to be fair, a lightly different angle than others)?
One person commented; point made. We didn't need the pile-on.
OP, YANBU

TheSmallAssassin · 11/03/2024 18:18

Nobody - not friends, family nor colleagues has even mentioned Kate Middleton to me, so I think your poll is missing an option "No-one I know is bothered"

cakeorwine · 11/03/2024 18:20

Grosshesselohe · 11/03/2024 16:17

Trust me, I fully see the irony of the post.
no need for anyone to respond. I just wanted to see the vote.

Results so far are heartening

I get this. It is ridiculous and just shows the obsession people have with them.

They are a family . Just people. And their every move is obsessed about.

It is a ridiculous level of obsession. Just like a goldfish bowl for people.

And this deserves its own thread - as it's about the obsession people have

HereForTheFreeLunch · 11/03/2024 18:21

YABU - because other than tabloids, and these threads on MN I don't see anyone bothering. There's no mass hysteria.
