To think the response to Kate’s illness and photo is insane?

And that the public are approaching levels of hysteria not seen since Diana’s funeral?

I’ve put this in AIBU not Royal because it’s the only way to get a vote - and hopefully restore faith in our collective common sense.

YABU - the dramatic response is completely justified

YANBU - people are acting like loons & should leave Kate alone

Oh okay fair enough. Well my second theory then is that Wills took the pic and Kate thought she looked a bit shit post op so she edited it a bit. Poor woman.

I reckon that's what happened too, but I think they pasted in an old photo of her face from before this health problem. That's not ok.

That never should have done it.

Sunflowerfieldsinsummer · 12/03/2024 08:29

You are absolutely right, it’s insane.

Kate has conducted herself with so much dignity, people need to show some compassion and respect while she recovers from her operation.

The clamouring for details and conspiracy theories are beyond embarrassing

NotQuiteNorma · 12/03/2024 08:34

I'm amazed at the poll result. It seems more people want a monarchy that treat them like fools and can't be trusted to behave with integrity. Talk about sheep...

This 100%

Except when she decided to put out a manipulated image that isn't true to decieve the public

And it's more than just some innocent light touch editing

“Deceive the public” about what exactly?

She posted a Mother’s Day photo like millions of others. Why do you feel the right to demand anything from her? It’s a very strange mindset.

Are you a Harry and Meghan fan? A republican? What’s your motivation here? Genuinely interested

Well if she did replace her whole face on the image (not saying she did) then I agree that's not a wise move.

But if she did do that, just imagine what that tells us about the psychological pressure she must be feeling to look perfect even after her op.

I feel really sorry for her!

I agree with that too, but that doesn't make it ok. They've really, really fucked up and obviously can't figure out a way out.

It's a Mother's Day photo. Literally nothing about it affects anyone other than the family.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 12/03/2024 13:25

So, what do people think is really going on then? What do they have to gain?

If you look on Twitter/X there seems to be a very big overlap of Kate hate posts and conspiracies with Harry and Meghan fans with an axe to grind.

Sad but true

Lampslights · 12/03/2024 13:39

I was really surprised by the amount of people in twitter trying to make it about Megan, it’s so odd.

I don’t. Nobody has forced her to play this silly game. If anything she’s setting a bad example for Charlotte. We all get sick, we all will get old. These are not unacceptable things.

I dunno. I think genuinely something is very wrong. Kate does not wish her face to be seen. Like she really really doesn’t wish her face to be seen. And that’s kinda weird, it’s at least a couple of months post surgery. Why all the cloak and dagger stuff.

Thsts the issue, why all the cloak and dagger stuff. Is something up with her face?

Prawncow · 12/03/2024 14:05

As someone posted on another thread, what’s really shocking about this whole thing is how many seemingly normal people are utterly batshit when you scratch the surface. What started out as nosiness and a sense of entitlement - why won’t they tell us her private medical information- turns into rumours and wild theories.

DryIce · 12/03/2024 14:13

I am not a royalist, or conspiracy theorist, and didn't really give a shit about any of this hoopla.

Until the news about that photo - a future head of state issuing information that is so edited reputable news companies refuse to use it, the media publicly calling the royal family's approved information unreliable. well that does seem like news actually.

The whole royal family is basically a PR business, it seems such a nonsensical cock up. They didn't need to issue anything, they'd already said she was off ill/recuperating. One of the most PR focused businesses in the world making such a series of ham fisted decisions does make you wonder why - what could be worse than how they're making themselves appear now!

FerryBerryHerry · 12/03/2024 14:17

Yes it’s bizarre. She’s recovering from surgery, she’s said she won’t be about now till the end of March, leave her be.

Definitely driven by the media to a large extent as it’s obviously in their interest to generate a load of intrigue around a non-story as it creates engagement, which equals revenue

MaryGreenhill · 12/03/2024 14:18

Absolutely !

peppermintcrisp · 12/03/2024 14:18

What is the government trying to hide? What have they instructed spin doctors to distract us from?

An attack on Russia with the US?

Echobelly · 12/03/2024 14:19

Yup, how has it gone to a second day? 🙄And we'll probably get a third and a fourth... I think more important things are going on.

brunettemic · 12/03/2024 14:27

By response do you mean people constantly starting threads about it…like this one?

SmashedPrawnsInAMilkyBasket · 12/03/2024 14:42

I had major abdominal surgery and was signed off for three months, several years ago. In that time, none of my colleagues heard from me, but not one of them thought I must be dead, or in a coma, or abducted by aliens, or replaced by a robot me, or horribly disfigured from an accident on the operating theatre, or run away to start a new life in Alaska. They knew I wasn’t expected back for three months, so when I started back they said hello and asked me how I was. Why isn’t it the same for her?

People in this country have gone nuts in the past ten years or so. So willing to be manipulated by politicians and conspiracy theorists, lives playing out like episodes of Jeremy Kyle. It’s like real life and the internet can’t be separated in their minds.

The mistake that Kensington Palace has made is allowing the collective madness to cause them to stop holding the line.

I've understood the issue completely.

LivelyBlake · 12/03/2024 14:56

You can believe both that KP has made a huge mistake with the handling of this photo and that conspiracy theorists are loonies and the media should not feed them.
