DH only butters one side and says I am doing it wrong, but will accept the results of a MN vote.

YABU: You should only butter one side
YANBU: You should butter both sides

What a stupid thread to open as a low carber!

Sunday morning, I should be eating Avocado on sourdough!! I want toast!!!

Butter on both slices, mayo, mustard, jam are NOT substitues. But right now I'd take it in buttered if I could eat the bread.

Waitrose olive bread is to die for,

one slicer butterers are WEIRD

I don’t butter usually as I include mayo, salad cream or hummus which helps hold it all together.

The exceptions are crisp or banana sandwiches which need butter and for those I usually do both sides.

i am not fussed about tasting butter on most sandwiches.

I have exactly the same argument with my DH. He’s a one slicer, whilst I am a generous butterer of both.

Honestly, you can’t beat some fresh, crusty bread/baguette with nothing on it but lashings of salted butter. Not good for the figure but it tastes so good.

Growing up we always buttered one side, now I do two, but I don’t tend to use butter / marg now but cream cheese instead (both sides of my bagel thin)

Your use of the phrase "a sandwich which is going to have a filling" implies that you have sandwiches that do not have fillings. Are you a complete heathen?

My brother was such a heathen. He loved tomato sauce sandwiches as a child. He did butter both slices of bread, Im not sure that makes it any better though.

I always butter both sides, but my husband only one side and son neither. Its how you prefer it.
