To butter both slices when making a sandwich ?

ThankGodImAnAtheist · 09/03/2024 19:08

DH only butters one side and says I am doing it wrong, but will accept the results of a MN vote.

YABU: You should only butter one side
YANBU: You should butter both sides

LTB

Oh bore off

are you this difficult in real life and devoid of any humour?

Rude. I just have a different way of buttering bread for sandwiches. I'm not sure why that bothers you so much. Maybe 'bore off' is your standard response to anyone who has different opinions to yours. You might find MN hard work if that's the case.

ThankGodImAnAtheist · 09/03/2024 19:43

To clarify, I take two slices of bread and butter the ‘inside’ surface of each slice (the sides that make contact with the filling), whereas DH only butters 1 surface. I do the same if I’m using e.g hummus rather than butter. When he makes them (a rare occasion) they taste dry to me (he is also sparing with the butter anyway) 🤣

Your DH is clearly wrong and requires serious intervention.

Concestor · 09/03/2024 19:46

Flin · 09/03/2024 19:27

Neither did I suggest it would kill you. I think you must be reading things that aren't there. I haven't suggested anything about health, butter being like a class A substance, or being killed by double buttering 😂

I agree it's tasty. I just don't see the point of buttering 2 slices for a sandwich which is going to have a filling.

Your use of the phrase "a sandwich which is going to have a filling" implies that you have sandwiches that do not have fillings. Are you a complete heathen?

Thank the lord🙏
I was imaging a very messy sandwich 🤣

Justcallmebebes · 09/03/2024 19:47

Only ever buttered one side. Didn't think it was ever a thing to butter both

I worded it badly 😆I'm only part heathen. I wouldn't have a sandwich with no filling.

DDC · 09/03/2024 19:49

I'm glad you clarified, I was imagining all these people buttering the inside AND outside of both slices and therefore eating sandwiches with greasy, buttery fingers!

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/03/2024 19:49

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/03/2024 19:10

Neither of you are right or wrong.
Not very helpful am I

But it's true. Make it the way the person who is going to eat it likes it.

CranfordScones · 09/03/2024 19:50

I personally do both slices, but the correct way is the way you like it.

If I was making it for someone else, I'd take pleasure in making it exactly the way they like it. Isn't that what others do?

JPWG · 09/03/2024 19:51

I could’ve written this
my DH only butters one and thinks I’m weird
but I think he’s insane

Mind you, he also eats crumble without custard or ice cream or anything so he’s not the best person to ask

Absolutely butter both sides! Who wants a dry bread sandwich Envy

I do..I can't stand butter.its too greasy.makes me feel really sick

Davros · 09/03/2024 19:52

Both sides of course. Just today I made a delicious sandwich - two slices of white bread, both buttered inside, two slices of corned beef and Branston pickle (one side). Big cup of tea. Mmmmm

Concestor · 09/03/2024 19:54

My daughter has just informed me she only butters one side, if there's not enough filling for the right butter to filling ratio.

DH doesn't butter at all because he doesn't like it.

I do both sides.

But when we make sandwiches for others, we do what they like, so he gives me double butter, I give him dry bread.

Blarn · 09/03/2024 19:55

I had a smoked salmon sandwich from
Pret for the first time in years the other day and only one side was buttered. I thought it must have been a mistake and am very surprised to read this is how some people do it!

Me too 😂

edited to add, it has to be proper butter as well, none of this adulterated spreadable rubbish or, good forbid, margarine or spreads.

Nicebloomers · 09/03/2024 20:21

Your DH is a psychopath

Sorry that makes no sense he's not that keen on mayo either

NamelessNancy · 09/03/2024 20:22

Of course you're right. Mayonnaise can stand in where appropriate but definitely both sides regardless. I hope he does acknowledge the verdict otherwise you should BLT. Sorry, typo, I meant LTB obviously

Atomickittyxx · 09/03/2024 20:26

To butter both sides is utterly frivolous behaviour and completely unacceptable in my view!!

Seriously though it is much nicer to butter both sides but if I'm in a rush I'll just butter one side so neither of you are wrong.

MamaMode · 09/03/2024 20:29

Both sides for sandwich
No sides if mayo topping is included
All 4 sides for a toastie

NamelessNancy · 09/03/2024 20:31

Really, he doesn't know which side his bread's buttered on does he? Sorry, I'll stop now.
