To butter both slices when making a sandwich ?

ThankGodImAnAtheist · 09/03/2024 19:08

DH only butters one side and says I am doing it wrong, but will accept the results of a MN vote.

YABU: You should only butter one side
YANBU: You should butter both sides

The butter is to prevent the bread going soggy.
Saying that, I only put salad in sandwiches I am about to eat. I only butter one side in egg mayonnaise and m and s and Waitrose don't use butter on cream cheese and smoked salmon.
Tuna mayo - does it really need butter?

I believe Americans don’t put butter in sandwiches. Maybe your husband is half American.
Butter both slices for sure.

gmgnts · 09/03/2024 21:22

If I bought a sandwich in a shop and found that only one side had been buttered, I'd complain!

therealcookiemonster · 09/03/2024 21:25

let me tell you what we are all thinking

you should have had this conversation before you married this butter denier

its important to talk about the core values in your life before settling down with someone

no point crying about it now. just keep eating those dry sandwiches

I only ever butter one slice of the bread for a sandwich. Confused

I have to ask why?

LTB

😂😂

chattyness · 09/03/2024 21:27

I butter both slices or both halves of it's a roll, my husband only butters one side really thickly which gives me the ick. I love real butter but that is just gross

sprigatito · 09/03/2024 21:29

Wtf is it with people buggering about with sandwiches?! Of course you butter both slices of bread. Otherwise it's a half-made sandwich. And as for you perverts who don't use butter at all...that's not a sandwich, I don't know what the fuck that is. Dry bread with things falling out of it. Weirdos.

Boomarang · 09/03/2024 21:29

My husband maintains that butter in a sandwich containing any sort of cheese is wrong. We had an actual argument about it.

MyOtherHusbandIsAWash · 09/03/2024 21:30

I never use butter in sandwiches so can’t vote 😂 Agree with a PP mayo is great, but I often use cream cheese, mustard, or pickle. I can’t understand using butter if you use one of these others.

Bobbybobbins · 09/03/2024 21:31

Both sides!

Definitely LTB

JustMarriedBecca · 09/03/2024 21:31

I can't eat cold sandwiches because I don't like bread touching anything cold.

I'm ok, just about, with bacon but only if there is no butter and no sauce.

FrogsWormsandCaterpillars · 09/03/2024 21:36

The main thing I’ve learnt from this is that people don’t use butter if they’re using mayo/mustard/cream cheese etc?!
I can’t imagine ANY sandwich without butter!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/03/2024 21:41

No butter (or margarine) don't like the texture or taste of either .
My sandwiches are dry bread and filling , no mayonnaise or salad cream
Might go for pickle though.

KattyBoomBoom95 · 09/03/2024 21:42

Defo both. Nothing worse than a dry sandwich.

LaWench · 09/03/2024 21:43

Your DH is one sick puppy, one side buttered? that's crazy talk

UnctuousUnicorns · 09/03/2024 21:45

EasternStandard · 09/03/2024 19:29

I didn’t know buttering one side was a thing

Nor did I. Some people are odd! 🤷‍♀️

Allinadayswork80 · 09/03/2024 21:46

Both slices. Generously. Always both slices!

MoonWoman69 · 09/03/2024 21:48

What's this about?! My husband is the same and always has been! He knows I always have both sides buttered, yet only ever does one side on mine too, if he's making me a sandwich! I have to specifically tell him each time, butter both sides! 🤷‍♀️

WildRosesForCathy · 09/03/2024 21:50

Both sides for a sandwich because I like butter and hate dry bread or soggy bread.

What is the point of only buttering one side?

However, what the hell are people doing buttering all sides of a toastie? Is that not just a greasy mess Confused

Shiveringinthecountry · 09/03/2024 22:06

Definitely butter both sides, liberally! It drives me mad that sandwich shops don't seem to butter sandwiches any more 😱😬

Shiveringinthecountry · 09/03/2024 22:08

I butter one slice. Why use double the quantity of butter?

Because it’s butter

Not heroin

😂😂😂

StaunchMomma · 09/03/2024 22:14

What's the point of only doing one side?

That's a dry-ass sandwich.

midgetastic · 09/03/2024 22:17

I tend not to butter at all

It's a personal preference thing isn't it ? Doesn't taste / feel dry to me

123dogdog · 09/03/2024 22:44

Why has no one mentioned CRISPS!

if it’s cheese I butter one slice, so I can lift the other slice of to arrange the crisps, if you butter both slices then the butter sticks to the cheese.

i don’t butter tuna mayo or egg mayo, as they have mayo and it’s not needed. Mayo is not as sticky as butter, so no issue with the crisps.

i don’t eat any other sandwiches.
