AIBU to be shocked by the Irish referendum?

Yetmorebeanstocount · 09/03/2024 16:17

I'm not from the Irish Republic. I just read what the ballot was about. I am shocked at what their constitution contained:

Article 41.2.1° “In particular, the State recognises that by her life within the home, woman gives to the State a support without which the common good cannot be achieved.”
Article 41.2.2° “The State shall, therefore, endeavour to ensure that mothers shall not be obliged by economic necessity to engage in labour to the neglect of their duties in the home.”

I'm even more shocked that early results suggest the Irish have voted to KEEP this dire crap in their constitution.

Am I missing something?

You said when did i leave 1920
.

No I left a week ago.

And just a week ago in ireland people were complaining to me about the extremely high rent prices.

I'm not sure why you're saying that's not happening now?

It's very tough for a lot of people in ireland right now. It's sad. I know a lot of people struggling

It might be quicker if you just do a few bullet points for us on where we're going wrong and we can forward it on to the relevant authorities 🙄

DublinFemale · 10/03/2024 11:19

Brilliant 🤣🤣🤣

I actually thought it was like something a 12 year old would right.

And denying that there is a huge rental crisis in ireland when people are struggling a lot is not on

Miri13 · 10/03/2024 11:22

As you say you’re not from there, then it doesn’t affect you.

Why dont you first go find an article on the housing crisis in Spain.
Maybe then you wont embarras yourself so much.

DanielGault · 10/03/2024 11:24

Sashamalia · 10/03/2024 11:19

What are you even in about.

Are you saying there is no rent crisis in ireland right now?

Cuz I'll find and link you a hundred articles to show you there is

Lots of countries have lots of problems though. I don't know why you feel that makes us exceptional?

DublinFemale · 10/03/2024 11:24

I was in ireland for the last three years.

I stand corrected you were in Ireland for last 3yrs.

Once you were registered to vote my previous post still stands regarding your options, you could have voted yes and taught us neoliberalism.

Sashamalia · 10/03/2024 11:26

Spain not perfect that is for sure.

The Catholic Church have done damage here too.

However it has a better life balance than ireland in my opinion, in lots of ways.

Better weather. (That's not irelands fault)

This means that I can do lots of outdoor things.

There is a lot More things to do.

Much Cheaper rent.
Much better rental options

There is a Cheaper cost of living
I just bought a coffee for 1.50

Excellent public transport

alot of young people are leaving ireland as the cost of living is unsustainable

The government need to improve a lot of things in ireland , hopefully they will, and they will allocate funding

Well hopefully ireland will improve in areas. If they allocated funding to the right areas, it could be a much better country

DublinFemale · 10/03/2024 11:29

Housing is only an Irish problem ok then.

Oh, allocate funding!!!! Why didn't we think of that!?! You love Spain, for very valid reasons, and that's good for you. Ireland is not Spain, and doesn't want to be. We're happy enough being ourselves.

Deadringer · 10/03/2024 11:31

A rent crisis you say? Clearly other people want to live here then. Sashamalia, is that a galway name? I think might know some of your cousins.

None of those those things has anything to do with the referendum.

Unless you can show me direct link that rejecting the referendum in its current wording will change the list you cited then it's of no relevance

Surely it'd be Offaly?

DublinFemale · 10/03/2024 11:34

Again as per your post you will never come back the rejected referendum will never impact you.

Doteycat · 10/03/2024 11:34

A coffee for 1.50. Ask yourself why.
Seriously stop. Your ignornance of both ireland and spain is just rediculous.

Gowlbag · 10/03/2024 11:35

@Sashamalia you should meet my friend Mooshamoo. I feel like you’d have a lot in common 😉

Sashamalia · 10/03/2024 11:36

Based on my personal experience, it has been much easier in spain to rent a flat.

This might be useful to anyone, if anyone is ever thinking of moving to spaim

I tried to rent a flat in Dublin last year. it was so hard.

There was a huge number of people at each viewing. The flats were very small, and as we all know , very expensive.

Then In spain, I visited spain before I moved over. To look for flats

I looked at three different flats.

I was offered all three flats if i wantd them. They are really nice flats. With balconies. They are Much cheaper than dublin. The process was really easy.

I'm not getting into more of an argument
about this

Lots of people leave ireland for a better way of life. We always have done and people do it now

We have the freedom to do that, it was my choice and I'm very happy.

If you're happy in ireland and it suits you. Good for you. I'm happy for you

Are you in Madrid? Or Barcelona? Or some seaside resort with cheap gaffs that one might see on a channel 4 retirement abroad programme? I get the feeling you're comparing apples and oranges here.

Gowlbag · 10/03/2024 11:40

Me too @DanielGault , I’d hate to think she’d been forced out of this godforsaken country and had to spout her bitterness from somewhere else 🤣

Maybe she's gone back now. Hopefully. She was never, ever going to be happy here. It was quite sad really. But she was determined not to do a single thing to get involved in her community. So it's never going to work out then is it 🤔

DublinFemale · 10/03/2024 11:49

@Gowlbag @DanielGault

Let's not allow the derail. We made your decision re the referendum as what we felt was right for now at least.

It is really of irrelevance what anyone living abroad anywhere in the world thinks. They won't be living with fall out.

Ah yeah. Just that particular poster made an impression on me.

DublinFemale · 10/03/2024 11:56

I get it, just not wanting anyone to rain on our parade.

This win was earned, the no side was very much David.

Since JB loves his Irishness so much he should be embracing the Irish people's voice.

Democracy at work.
