Aibu to think my baby has different sized eyes?

Maybe we just spend too long looking at each other, but I'm very concerned that my baby's right eye is smaller than her left, and it's all I can see now when I look at her. It's driving me mad and causing me a lot of anxiety.

Haven't we all got one eye smaller than the other? We're not perfectly symmetrical. Beautiful baby btw

mt9m · 08/03/2024 21:44

People aren't perfectly symmetrical, it's the same as nostril and lip asymmetry.

Plannypops · 08/03/2024 21:44

We all do if you look closely enough. I wouldn’t think anything out the ordinary if I saw your baby, just, aww, cute baby.

I really wouldn’t be posting their face on here, however.

@Gmary20 , take a step back and look at the gorgeous little baby not at faults that aren't there. She looks amazing.

She does doesnt she!

DuchessOfSausage · 08/03/2024 21:48

Yes, like she's got bags of personality. I think she looks perfect.

SkaneTos · 08/03/2024 21:49

I agree with previous posters, I think we all have different sized eyes, more or less. My eyes are not exactly the same size, at least.

Reminds me of this absolute legend from 2006...

One of my eyes looks a bit more open than the other. That makes it look bigger. I think it's normal.

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/03/2024 21:51

Gorgeous baby.
I do see what you mean, it's probably completely normal.
Raise it at your next check up though. Probably not an issue but always better to ask.

IcouldbutIdontwantto · 08/03/2024 21:52

Having spent 10 minutes frantically googling what could cause a blue spot on a toddler's neck earlier (paint, paint was the answer 🤦‍♀️), this made me giggle a bit.

Your baby's eyes look fine to me, OP. She's super cute, btw 😊

Gibs0nGirl · 08/03/2024 21:52

Humans are not symmetrical. Your baby is beautiful!

JovialNickname · 08/03/2024 21:52

Noooo.... she doesn't, you're being a bit of a silly but adoring mummy. She is perfect you've just looked at her too much. She is beautiful by the way no wonder you are besotted x

Winnipeggy · 08/03/2024 21:53

They look the same to me, and like PP I wouldn't worry if they weren't (and I'm REALLY good at finding things to worry about!)

Overthebow · 08/03/2024 21:53

Well yes one is smaller than the other but isn’t this the same for a lot of people? Probably just more pronounced as she’s a baby at the moment, things will even out as she grows.

swapcicles · 08/03/2024 21:53

Almost everyone has this plus they often aren't even level!
Have look in the mirror properly, the thing is you are so used to seeing yourself you don't notice stuff like slightly out of line eyes.
Same goes for photos of celebs ect, it's not until you are actually looking for an issue that you will see it, it's the way our brains see faces and it's not immediately obvious.

DontUseYourNose · 08/03/2024 21:54

My baby has different size eyes. It doesn't bother me as I assume they'll even out eventually and like your baby I'd imagine it's something only I really notice as her mother.

MamaGhina · 08/03/2024 21:58

My child has physiologic anisocoria. I noticed when she was about 6 months old. I took her to the doctor who sent us to Moorfields eye hospital. I was shitting myself waiting until I read online about 20% of people have this! It’s completely normal with no adverse effects. I would recommend taking her/him to the GP to put your mind at rest.

Domino20 · 08/03/2024 22:00

Of course her eyes are different, everyone's are. One of my favourite things about my son is that his eyes have exactly the same asymmetry as mine.

HRTQueen · 08/03/2024 22:02

Aww the pictures made me smile she is absolutely gorgeous

Her eyes look fine 😊

MaMisled · 08/03/2024 22:08

I really can't see a difference and your baby looks perfect to me and I'm sorry youre feeling concerned. My DD actually did have one eye bigger than the other at that age, our GP agreed. He said they'd soon match up and they did! I hope that's reassured you a little.

Gmary20 · 08/03/2024 22:11

Thank you everyone for your responses, I have a tendency to be anxious about health conditions and I think I'm just feeling extra anxious at the moment as I have a cold and not sleeping well. But your comments have made me feel better.

Asymmetrical eyes are totally normal. I actually think most people have one eye smaller than the other.

hopsalong · 08/03/2024 22:13

Babies often look as if their eyes are different sizes because they have such fat faces! I worried about this with DC2. As a skinny 6 year old I can confirm that his eyes are the same size. As a baby they looked very different (much more so than with your beautiful baby, where I can't even see a difference). I think one was more hooded and had a thicker and fatter eyelid than the other.

OutOfTheHouse · 08/03/2024 22:14

Not at all. She is beautiful.
I know a couple of people who have completely different eyes. One woman I know has eyes that are different colours and different shapes. They look like that belong to different people.

I know another person who is mixed race Chinese and white. He literally has one eye from one parent each.
