Aibu to think my baby has different sized eyes?

Maybe we just spend too long looking at each other, but I'm very concerned that my baby's right eye is smaller than her left, and it's all I can see now when I look at her. It's driving me mad and causing me a lot of anxiety.

Have you spoken to your GP about your anxiety? Mine was awful after I gave birth but the GP really helped.

I can see what you mean but I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about. Mention to a health professional next time you are there

Eye professional here. There is possibly a minimal difference in palpebral fissure height (distance between upper and lower lids) but I would estimate less than half a mm difference and incredibly subtle, nothing that requires medical assessment. Her pupils are the same size and externally her eyes look normal. As everyone says, a small amount of asymmetry is normal. I'm guessing she's your first and you spend lots of lovely time together, noticing everything about her.
If her upper lid was drooping down to the level of the pupil, I would see your GP, but that isn't the case so you're fine.

Optometrist here too. Completely agree. No need to see anyone, unless it gets worse.

I became really anxious after I gave birth and it was an issue for a few weeks. I'm more or less back to normal now but when I'm super tired (baby's sleep regression and both of us having a cold the following week) it creeps up on me. You're right though, it is something I need to be aware of.

It sounds like you have good self awareness. Take care

My brother and I both have the same slightly lower eyebrow and eyelid on one side. My DH has similar, too.

I’m still alright looking and I only really notice the wonkiness in selfies (clearly the front camera picks up more than the mirror!). My mum also let slip that she had looked into getting my ears pinned back when I was little; I’m bloody glad she didn’t because they’re completely unremarkable now.

It's just more noticeable in a baby because their eyes are bigger proportionally in their face.

They aren't exactly identical but as others say, totally normal and she is gorgeous.

Honestly when you use software to make people have totally symmetrical faces they look freaky like robots.

TroysMammy · 09/03/2024 17:45

I've got one eye bigger than the other and one boob bigger than the other. No one is symmetrical.

I wonder what your baby is thinking in the first photo?
