Aibu to think my baby has different sized eyes?

Maybe we just spend too long looking at each other, but I'm very concerned that my baby's right eye is smaller than her left, and it's all I can see now when I look at her. It's driving me mad and causing me a lot of anxiety.

I think you're worrying yourself over nothing. You baby is beautiful.
I swore my daughter didn't have a hole in her ear when she was young. I even mentioned it to the doctor who laughed.
It's so hard being a mother. I constantly worry as well.

Eye professional here. There is possibly a minimal difference in palpebral fissure height (distance between upper and lower lids) but I would estimate less than half a mm difference and incredibly subtle, nothing that requires medical assessment. Her pupils are the same size and externally her eyes look normal. As everyone says, a small amount of asymmetry is normal. I'm guessing she's your first and you spend lots of lovely time together, noticing everything about her.
If her upper lid was drooping down to the level of the pupil, I would see your GP, but that isn't the case so you're fine.

Thank you! This make some feel much better. She is my first and yes, I spend all day looking at her which isn't helpful when I have a tendency to be a bit obsessive about this sort of thing anyway! 😅

She's absolutely beautiful.
They look perfectly lovely and equal in size to me.

motleymop · 08/03/2024 22:28

I can't even see it. My baby has one eye bigger than the other. So do I.
She is so gorgeous.

3drag0ns · 08/03/2024 22:33

I can't see it personally, my children I can tell but looking at yours I was trying to spot which eye is bigger but I can't find it!

She is gorgeous, don't overthink this

CountryShepherd · 08/03/2024 22:50

At 9 months, i could see my DD was having some issues focusing. In fact she was very long sighted in one eye but had perfect vision in the other - they said that this was caused by one oof her eyeballs actually being smaller than the other. Early intervention meant she avoided a serious squint. With glasses and patches, her vision is fine now.

I'm not saying your baby has one eye smaller than the other - she is gorgeous! But it can be a thing and worth keeping a check.

CountryShepherd · 08/03/2024 22:52

Just noticed an eye professional has responded- her input is obviously much more relevant than mine!

Thank you everyone for your responses, I have a tendency to be anxious about health conditions and I think I'm just feeling extra anxious at the moment as I have a cold and not sleeping well. But your comments have made me feel better.

When I read your OP I wondered if there was anxiety in the mix. I struggled a lot when my son was a baby. If it’s bothering you (and this post maybe suggests it is?) please talk to someone xx

also - your baby looks gorgeous and perfect to me.

Lucinda7 · 08/03/2024 23:06

I have noticed a difference in eye sizes in photos of famous people. As some posters said asymmetry is normal. Your baby is lovely OP.

Bbq1 · 08/03/2024 23:07

She's beautiful and her eyes are lovely. Honestly, Op you shouldn't post her photo. Plus what if sge ever comes across the thread. It's mean. She is a perfect little baby.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/03/2024 23:08

Everyone has different sized eyes

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 08/03/2024 23:08

If you cover the nose the eyes look the same size....

Gorgeous baby btw.

PickAChew · 08/03/2024 23:10

She has one higher than the other but most of us are a bit wonky. DH has one fixed earlobe and one free 😅

IloveAslan · 08/03/2024 23:14

I have one eye noticeably smaller than the other, and it has been since I was a baby. Your baby's eyes look the same size to me.

Mumof2teens79 · 08/03/2024 23:17

My DD definitely had one smaller than the other, and a slightly flat head on one side. She was still beautiful and is now a beautiful 16yr old. It's no longer detectable, except maybe if she is unwell and her smaller eye looks a teeny bit smaller.

No one is symmetrical. Your baby is gorgeous.

PonyPatter44 · 08/03/2024 23:21

I can see a very very tiny asymmetry... but she is a BABY. Do not worry. They grow, they change. She is utterly beautiful though, i miss baby cuddles!

nimski · 08/03/2024 23:26

Your baby is beautiful x

DrJoanAllenby · 08/03/2024 23:28

Beautiful baby and if you look at her nose you can see that it's ever so slightly smaller on the same side as the eye that is ever so slightly smaller, which is in keeping with a perfectly normal and healthy infant.

It would be strange if her features were perfectly symmetrical.

FluffyFanny · 08/03/2024 23:39

I wouldn't look at her and immediately notice that her eyes are not symmetrical- she's lovely, perfectly normal looking, nothing unusual looking about her. Nobody is 100% symmetrical.

determinedtomakethiswork · 08/03/2024 23:52

She is absolutely adorable. Where did you get her clothes from?

Frances0911 · 09/03/2024 00:23

No face is completely symmetrical. She's a gorgeous baby, you are lucky to have her, I had two miscarriages and sadly have no children.
Please don't spend too much time staring at her eyes, or she will pick up on it and become anxious.

UpsideLeft · 09/03/2024 01:00

Head and everything is still growing so don't worry about it

My DDs eyes completely changed shape from baby to teen

UpsideLeft · 09/03/2024 01:00

Adorable baby btw OP

UpsideLeft · 09/03/2024 01:02

I tell you what though if she's bumped her head recently it can affect the eyes etc on which that's different so go to A&E

Her eyes look fine to me but if you genuinely think one eye has changed size very recently then go to A&E
