Mother’s Day is a bit out of hand?

Has Mothers Day always been like this? Some big event with lunches and dramas and threads about who is going where?

I thought Mother’s Day was breakfast in bed with a bunch of flowers, maybe a card.

YABU - it’s an important day for important persons
YANBU - it’s really no biggie at all

Yet another commercial success! There’s an entire aisle in Asda dedicated to random stuff, from chocolate to vodka to slippers. There were loads of blokes who I bet rarely darken the doors leaving under huge bunches of flowers just now.

Everything is commercialised , retailers constantly trying to outdo each other has meant more and more ' stuff' to buy .

My mum is having an ornament for the garden , flowers , cards , chocolates and a trip out to a garden centre where no doubt she'll be treated to lunch .

I like having a big fuss made of me! It seems only fair as I make a big fuss of other events throughout the year - birthdays, Easter, fathers day, christmas, valentines day etc. I do enjoy making a fuss over nothing though, I appreciate not everyone does!

I'll get a lie-in, an uninterrupted bath and a couple of little home-made cards/presents. We will go out for a nice meal and a mooch around the garden centre.

I'll facetime my mum and we will pop into my Mother-in-Laws on the way home.

It's very similar to a normal Sunday in lots of ways, but the lie-in and bath will be bliss with 2 under 2.5!

and why on earth shouldn’t a fuss be made of you?!

honestly so many posters falling over themselves to be as low maintenance as possible “I’m grateful just for a card” nah!

I absolutely fucking hate it. I'm childless and sad about it and have adult sisters. Happy to buy my mother nice gifts but can't afford to thanks to over priced shit from my niece that she wont remember. Sounds like I am bitter maybe I am but I fucking hate mother's day baby

You can be bitter, I'm so sorry 🩷

Treat yourself instead, even if its just a day of sitting in your jammies and watching telly all day.

Sending you lots of love.

@melmos sorry to hear that. I used to feel the same when I was suffering with infertility. Also my mum died when I was 27 so I just wanted to ignore it.
I don't think it's unreasonable to have a day when people celebrate their mother's but I do understand it's hard for some people. It's also not helped by half the companies that you've ever dealt with in the past emailing specifically to ask if you want to hear about mother's day. Which makes it a LOT harder to ignore 🙄

We don't really make a big deal of it. My kids will probably buy me a bubble bath - they go to the shops with DH and smell them all and then choose one that smells nice. And I'll get a cup of tea with hot cross buns made for my breakfast 🥰

On father's day me and the kids usually bake DH a cake.

@melmos

I'm sorry - that sucks. Hope you can have a peaceful day tomorrow.
