Do you want permission, OP? If so, why?

MILTOBE · 07/03/2024 19:03

Ohh I'll be interested to read about this. How much would it cost? Would your GP prescribe it?

HÆLTHEPAIN · 07/03/2024 19:05

I wouldn’t say you’re unreasonable to consider it, I have myself. However, I’m put off by the potential side effects and the fact that, as with most weight loss methods, you’ll probably regain it all when you stop. There isn’t enough long term research.

Nw22 · 07/03/2024 19:16

Apparently they are testing a pill version that is more effective

goessag · 07/03/2024 19:19

I would go for it, I purchased otc and have lost 3 stone
It did make me nauseous but small price to pay and your body gets used to it.

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 07/03/2024 19:20

I wouldn’t. The side effects can be pretty severe.

Spring5 · 07/03/2024 19:22

I know theres the possibility of regaining it once i stop but at the moment with around 7 stone to lose, its difficult. It would be imo good to have a head start and lose the rest myself. I signed up to the service and answered questions (lloyds online pharmacy) and its told me ive been accepted and its available to purchase. Its around £200-£300 depending on the dose. Am i mad to even consider this?

These drugs help you to loose muscle more than fat and once you stop taking it you will regain the weight. A quick fix never works long term. You would be much better trying to get to the bottom of your eating habits. Although I appreciate that this is a difficult thing to do .

leilani83 · 07/03/2024 19:26

If you can afford it, do it. The best money I ever spent. I've been on it for over a year and have lost 23.6kg and am now normal weight. I know many people have lost much more quickly but I've not even made that much of an effort.

The side effects vary from person to person but I've never had them that bad, and I'm on the highest dose of Wegovy (Ozempic equivalent for weight loss). There is nothing else like it on the market, it really is a miracle.

Spring5 · 07/03/2024 19:30

Those of you on it, did you buy it over the counter yourselves or did you go via gp?

OP posts:
saxendafirsttime · 07/03/2024 19:31

Go for it! Best decision i ever made. Ive lost 3 stone in 10 months. I haven't had any symptoms either. Now on Weygovy 0.25ml but started on Saxenda until they stopped doing it. It's life changing for someone that has failed every diet in the past because I have been too hungry 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

AfterTheWatershed · 07/03/2024 19:32

There is no way that I could afford this but if it ever came down to a price that was within my budget I would. It seems like a huge amount of money, there are so many things that I would do with £200/£300 before using that.

Facinguptothisdebt · 07/03/2024 19:34

What about something like Orlistat? I'm about to start on that. I will ask the gp about wegovy etc instead though based on some of these responses.

Spring5 · 07/03/2024 19:36

Surely if the weightloss drugs work, we should use them with the change of mindset and approach to diet

Everyone I know who had orlistat literally shit themselves. I'm not even joking. It's the way the fat passes through you. Don't ever fart haha

I wouldn’t. The side effects can be pretty severe.

So are the side effects of obesity.

I'm 43 later this year, also 5'8" and I was 16st 5lbs when I started. I needed to lose weight after being told I was pre-diabetic. I believe that it can be done without medication. It's about massive lifestyle change.

I calorie count using My Fitness Pal to stay in deficit. Got a personal trainer and go to the gym or run 6 days a week. I'm down to 12st 7lbs. I have never felt better. My goal is 11st later this year.

It's been hard work but I know I can maintain this as this has to be forever. I'm comfortably in a size 14 and think I'll be a 12 by the end.

It's been hard and I've wanted to give up but for me the effort has absolutely been worth it. It's changed my mindset completely.

Personally I wouldn't take the medication route but you have to do what's right for you. Good luck whatever you decide.

Whats your evidence for your first line?

They work by enabling someone to eat less, just like on any weight loss plan, whether that be WW, SW, surgery, lifestyle change whatever name you want to put to a calorie deficit

People do lose muscle when they lose weight, they lose muscle and fat, the proportions of that differ from person to person and are affecgted by genetics, starting weight, body composition, type of intake, exercise type

Weight loss tools are as quick a fix as you choose them to be. OP might lose 1lb a week on it. she might join a weight loss club and lose 2lb a week but Im sure the moral judgement of SW or WW would be less

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that people who lose lots of weight quickly (if that did happen to OP) are motivated to carry on and sustain that more than the slower loser, who gives up because they lose motivation

I was 17 Stone this time last year. I am now just under 14 stone.

I have never had any side effects so it suits me quite well. There have been times when it has worked less well where I ate more and my weight fluctuated. I am now on the 1.7mg dose.

I am considering trying Mounjaro soon.

I buy it and am lucky to be able to afford it (just about!)

Wizzadorra70 · 07/03/2024 19:57

I'm type 2 diabetic, and am taking medication for it. Every 6 months, I see my diabetic specialist nurse and have a full set of bloods that include liver and kidney function and overall blood glucose levels.

If you take buy this drug online and take it without medical supervision, you're risking long term damage to your organs. Not a risk I'd take for a quick fix. Losing weight is hard - I've lost 4 stone very very slowly but it's staying off.

You're going to need to provide a source for that ridiculous claim. You don't seem to understand how hormones work.

Itsmeamandaberry · 07/03/2024 20:00

Go for it. It didn't work for me but saxenda did and I'm now on Mounjaro looking forward to the results

FlappyFish · 07/03/2024 20:00

Come and chat to us on the Mounjato thread. It’s not long released in the U.K. It is liquid willpower.

soupfiend · 07/03/2024 20:00

My partner is on the drug for his diabetes but called something different, he doesnt have 6 monthly tests, its yearly. He is type 2

However a person can ask their GP for tests but also arrange them privately if they are worried.

Gingernaut · 07/03/2024 20:05

I bought Ozempic or similar weight loss injections from Boots, through their online pharmacy system

Fine, but

  1. All the World and his wife wanted it and it was in short supply
  2. Boots didn't take the sharps bins back

This meant lengthy waits for it to come back into stock after my initial order and then trailing around my town trying to find someone who'd take the bins

Even the Drug User Needle Exchanges didn't want to know
