I would go for it, I purchased otc and have lost 3 stone
It did make me nauseous but small price to pay and your body gets used to it.

How long did it take to lose the 3 stone? How much were you eating each day?

Pleatherandlace · 07/03/2024 19:25

These drugs help you to loose muscle more than fat and once you stop taking it you will regain the weight. A quick fix never works long term. You would be much better trying to get to the bottom of your eating habits. Although I appreciate that this is a difficult thing to do .

That's just not true. They cause you to eat less so you will lose body fat just as any calorie deficit will cause. Ideally people will still exercise and build muscle mass as long term this helps with maintaining weight loss but ozempic doesn't melt muscles 🙄

I bought Ozempic or similar weight loss injections from Boots, through their online pharmacy system

Fine, but

  1. All the World and his wife wanted it and it was in short supply
  2. Boots didn't take the sharps bins back

This meant lengthy waits for it to come back into stock after my initial order and then trailing around my town trying to find someone who'd take the bins

Even the Drug User Needle Exchanges didn't want to know

Where did you take them in the end?

Apparently they are testing a pill version that is more effective

There is already pill version , i'm taking it . The thing is you have to take every morning with a little water before food or any other drinks ( 30 mins before )
can be easy to forget . But yes it's very effective.

Spring5 · 08/03/2024 07:27

Thanks everyone im going to try monjaro through asda pharmacy. Im going to go for it. Can stop anytime i suppose if its not for me. Im going to make a massive effort to eat healthy, calorie count and get out exercising alongside this so i can change my eating habits for when i finish the treatment and will be ready to move forward and keep the weight off x

@tittybumbum I was able to find a GP's Surgery (not my own) who took the filled bins

I worked in a hospital at the time and got rid of the spare, unopened needles in the sharps bins at work, but as the sharps bins were not the type the hospital used, I had to find somewhere else to get rid of them

User14March · 08/03/2024 07:41

It seems this is now everywhere & being sought by friends overseas who have a healthy BMI & now hitting the gym big time.

Nw22 · 08/03/2024 07:42

@EllieJellyH do you mind saying where you bought the pill? Thanks

tittybumbum · 08/03/2024 07:47

Nicole1111 · 08/03/2024 06:55

What else have you tried so far? Personally I’d be considering something less drastic, like calorie counting.

🙄wow. If only overweight people had realised all they needed to do was count calories.

@EllieJellyH do you mind saying where you bought the pill? Thanks

it's an online store , I don't remember the name exactly, I can look it up in my emails and reply later .

i was cutting pill in 4 first month as this is way too high to start on and only option they had since it was Ozempic craze ( i got prescription but couldn't find Ozempic in any pharmacy so i started on pill instead and it will definitely kill all your appetite, didn't have any side effects either , maybe little nausea first week that's all.

I genuinely think that reading this thread emphasises eating healthier food , reducing carbohydrates and exercise ie 20 min walk a day is a better way of loosing weight! All these meds are just a short term solution.
Also taking Ozempic is depriving people who need the medication for medical reasons.!

Edited

Not necessarily. I’ve got a friend who I’d say is 17 stone. She’s tried lighter life, healthier eating with training but has always ended up regaining weight. Now she’s pre diabetic (diabetes runs in her family) and she was prescribed the weight loss injection (can’t recall which) by her GP but then they stopped and offered her meal replacement plans instead. She was doing well on the weight loss injections. She does eat healthier and exercises but said about a year ago nothing was working with her losing weight, she’s 52.

Do you have poorly controlled type 2 diabetes OP? If so you not being unreasonable.
if not then you are. Mounjano, ozempic and rybelsus are licenced for people with type 2 diabetes and due to people using them as a weight loss drug, people cannot get them to improve their diabetes.

Wegovy (semiglutide) same drug as ozempic does however have the licence for weight loss. Novonordisk the company who make ozempic and rybelsus brought it out in the hope that people will use this for weight loss and those with type 2 diabetes may be able to actually get hold of the ozempic and Uk stock supply will improve!

User14March · 08/03/2024 08:53

@bakebeans I think many have missed memo, shocked by 20 something 5ft 2 type women taking it who weigh less than 60kg to start with. It’s endemic.

Well it worked for me when I was 19 and a half stone so it can’t be that bad can it?!

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 07/03/2024 19:20

I wouldn’t. The side effects can be pretty severe.

Have you taken it? They’re really not

Nicole1111 · 08/03/2024 09:00

soupfiend · 08/03/2024 07:01

You are aware you still need to check and monitor intake while using medication? Its not a case of you take it and it just makes you lose weight in and of itself?

You still have to eat less and if you dont you wont lose weight

These interventions are just tools to help people eat less.

OP will still need to calorie count or low carb or follow whatever works best for her in terms of lowering intake, its just that the medication will help with cravings.

My understanding was that it limited your appetite so you naturally ate less. I can’t say I know that much about it though, only what I learned from a documentary on it.

The shortage is over. Novo nordisk built some massive new processing plants to make more meds. And the NHS always ringfenced supplies for diabetics anyway.

Rather than just use the meds to treat diabetics, they can be used to help people control their weight so they don’t become diabetic in the first place.

Aviee · 08/03/2024 09:04

Love it, losing weight steadily and feel great. Give it a go.

Well it worked for me when I was 19 and a half stone so it can’t be that bad can it?!

That's fantastic that you were able to lose weight with self driven calorie control but are you genuinely saying you didn't know the struggle many people have? Do you routinely tell people with depression to just pull themselves out if it because your cousin Sam did? Do you laugh at anorexics and tell them all they have to do is eat something? When someone is having a panic attack do you tell them just to calm down because that's the simple solution?

You are actually really rather offensive.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 08/03/2024 09:12

I’ve been using it since April last year and have lost 4 stone. 13st 10lb to 9st10. Had some minor nausea at the start, and slight constipation (eating less so less out too) but honestly it’s been life changing. I’ve yo-yo’d for most of my adult life, but since covid and hitting 40 it was just so hard to lose:

it’s cost me over £3k I guess. But I can afford it, and if someone said to me last year you can pay £3k and be back to a size 10 I’d have agreed.

it’s changed my eating habits, got rid of the food “noise” constantly thinking about what to eat/cook etc and given me the motivation to stick at it and maintain

Clearly I’ve touched a nerve here. I don’t think it’s offensive to suggest a weight loss method that has worked for me and others when someone asked a question about considering one form of weight loss. I also clearly asked the poster what they had tried so I could give a more tailored answer if they had come back and said their weight loss struggles were for psychological reasons. You’re making massive generalisations on here.

It's not! The issue is still prevalent and that's why people are being switched to the oral rybelsus tablets. They cant even get Victoza. They were hoping the issue would resolve by summer but now likely wont resolve till end of the year.

As I said in my original post. If weight is the issue, Wegovy has been brought out for this reason (same drug semiglutide but licenced for weight loss) and is available so people should be using this if pre diabetic or overweight and let those with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes have the ozempic.
