AIBU to think it's weird that my husband refers to some of my female friends as 'birds'?

He normally does it when he's a bit annoyed at them.

And that even The Sun journalists wouldn't call women 'birds' anymore?

Is he Scottish? Men I know say this but it's faux derogatory and they know they'd get a flick in the balls using it seriously.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2024 10:31

Is he Cornish ?

MinnieMountain · 07/03/2024 10:32

Sexist.

cerisepanther73 · 07/03/2024 10:33

It's very dated kind of talk 👄 🙄

Something out of 60s &70s era comedy's films ...

He needs to speed up to date with 21 centuary ...

Blackcats7 · 07/03/2024 10:33

Not weird just a sexist dinosaur. Yuck.

I don’t think faux derogatory is a thing, sounds like something men say to be able to be sexist and then say it’s a joke.

HeyJugee · 07/03/2024 10:38

maybe you need a shorthand for his friends? The worms? As in What are you and the worms up to on your night out ?

It means sarcasm.

User135644 · 07/03/2024 10:39

Very ubiquitous term in Liverpool.

KimberleyClark · 07/03/2024 10:41

It’s extremely dated and sexist and gives me instant ick. See also chicks and worst of all, totty.

CurlewKate · 07/03/2024 10:41

Sexist whenever it''s from. Oh, and can't I'd not a term of affection in Scotland either.

< been on these threads before>

duckcalledbill · 07/03/2024 10:42

I’d say it’s relatively common to hear women referred to as “birds” in Glasgow

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2024 10:42

My bird is common in Cornwall. It’s not sexist. Women say it too.

You missed :- crumpet, skirt and babe.

Morewineplease10 · 07/03/2024 10:49

Is he being ironic? Or thinks he is?

KrisAkabusi · 07/03/2024 10:57

My husband refers to me and my friends as The Coven.

DrJoanAllenby · 07/03/2024 11:05

I still use the term 'birdbrain'

Is that allowed by the terminally offended brigade?

Lorelaigilmore88 · 07/03/2024 11:09

Urgh that would give me the ick. I quite like most terms like love or sweetheart etc but 'birds' is just bleurgh. Why can't he just say ladies if he needs to refer to them collectively...

KreedKafer · 07/03/2024 11:10

I don't think it's really any different from calling men 'lads' really.

You mean ‘burds’

Haha aye!

K0OLA1D · 07/03/2024 11:26

I say bird.

I'd say 'Is so and so's bird going so and so's wedding' or whatever.

It doesn't bother me if I'm referred to as bird either, or chick, or duck.

Why the extra "r" 😄- "buds" here!

BobbyBiscuits · 07/03/2024 11:30

Grim. I used to know a guy like that, he though he was a such a top shagger, but women were repulsed by him. He also always used to call every woman 'babe', like in every sentence 'yes, babe, no babe...' I'm so pleased I have not seen/ spoke to him for several years!
