To point out that the word is “faze” and not “phase” in this context?

I’ve been reading so many threads where someone writes about being “phased” or “not phased” about something.
it was bothering me so much that I checked to see if it was me that was getting it wrong.
I didn’t.
To faze is to disturb, bother, or embarrass, but a phase is a stage or step, so you can be phased into a role, but if you’re not bothered by something, it doesn’t faze you!

Irregardless...
I mean, yes, we have flammable and inflammable, but it isn't a general rule...

Illuminous... (They usually mean bright/neon or day-glo anyway, or possibly fluorescent, but it's rarely got anything to do with being illuminated)

Dominant/dominate, in the same vein as definite/defiant

Compliant/complaint

I also completely resonate with the hate for the incessant "myself/yourself" nonsense.

Oh, and can't remember which PP, but yes, you quash rumours in the same way as you quash incorrect judgements or convictions.

When people spell Can't as carnt

I am deeply grateful that there are other people in the world who feel as outraged as I do by SPAG errors.

Phew!

It's probably better than spelling 'couldn't ' as 'cunt' which is how the children in my class spelled it. (Northern accents)

Yes, that pp (the one @pensione was admonishing) was being ironic.

But now I don't know if you were joking with "other's character's".

I'd be willing to correct you at your request 😜

You know, I stared at that sentence for so long before I posted it, I knew there was something wrong but autocucumber kept adding apostrophes.

In the end I decided to leave it to try and catch people out GrinWink

Not just on mumsnet and social media think its origin was Jeremy Kyle.

“Well I turned around and said…”

Do they mean they had their back to the person they were “conversating” with?

Actually this one is fine by me, it's a turn (haha) of phrase commonly heard in Ireland. My Northern Irish friend used to say this whenever she related a story. It made me laugh. I doubt very much that the origin was Jeremy Kyle, my friend used to say it in the 90s.

I've heard it in the London area too. It's definitely much, much older than Jeremy Kyle.

People of my mum's and gran's generations (I'm in my 50s) did an awful lot of turning around and saying, back in the day in south east London as well. Where I'm from it was usually 'turnt raaand and said'.

The other thing I heard an awful lot growing up was 'yourn' as in 'this is yourn, that's mine.'
