Princess Kate?

Internet is going nuts about it, the theories are insane.

Hope she’s ok

Do you regret this post, hun?🫣

Amazing how many people jumping on the smug bandwagon. Easy with the wisdom of hindsight.
Fact is the RF/palace handled this terribly. Shockingly badly.

Employees would keep their workplace notified. The art work for us. They are our servants. Do we need minute detail? No. Do we require enough to prevent supposition? Well this scenario would suggest do don't you think?

With access to the best teams in the world, they managed to fuck up the communication of this incredibly.

That isn't fact, it's an opinion. And one I entirely disagree with. I can't see any strategy they could have employed that wouldn't have led to further conspiracy, accusations of cover-up.or her children finding out before they were ready for that.

I think they handled fine in the circumstances.

Your entitlement is staggering, "they are our servants", what a vile thing to say in this context. I do hope you are not responsible for managing people in your professional life.

We were told Kate would not be doing public duties before Easter. We have been updated. It's not Easter yet.

The majority of sane adults are quite satisfied with the information we have been given. A minority of deeply unpleasant people speculating about her absence from public life is not evidence that the comms were inadequate.

If that’s the case then everyone who is paid out of taxpayers money should notify the GBP why they are taking time off from work, including details of how long they will be off for and what illness they are suffering from. So, all teachers, nurses, police, doctors, civil servants, dustmen, postmen etc must report to us - perhaps a big website should be set up so that we can monitor our servants’ health issues and leave time taken.

SweetcornFritter · 23/03/2024 17:24

Given that the Prince and Princess of Wales did not wish to divulge the nature of the Princess’s illness until their children were informed which they planned to do at the start of the Easter holidays how do the Mumsnet PR experts on here feel they should have handled the announcement at the start of the year? Do tell.

It's actually true though. That's the role of monarchy, to serve the public. It's their job. I mean, I say job but really it's just waving occasionally and saying 'very well thank you' in a posh voice and being patron of a few charities close to your heart.

And your thoughts on whoever advised them it would be a good idea to issue a fake photo to pretend nothing was going on? Do you think that advisor will still be in a job?

All sorts of jobs are paid for by the state and involve serving the public. I've done several and always been allowed time off sick, I also had holiday leave and days off.

What's your point? Public figures are not allowed any privacy or time off for illness?

Yes, I don't think it was that big a deal. And I think it will be forgotten, especially now people know she probably wasn't feeling up to a new, genuine photo.

I think it was a bit of a mistake to do.
it but not a big one. But not doing it wod have caused more speculation so another lose-lose situation.

Nurses jobs are to serve the public.

Retail staff serve the public.

Thats very different to referring to them as ‘our servants’. If you were in a restaurant do consider the staff ‘your servants’?

I was treated for cancer in the NHS. Diagnosed and had surgery within 4 weeks. Absolutely excellent, quick and efficient care from diagnosis to years of follow up. I simply couldn't have got better care privately and I know many other people with similar experiences.

Unfortunately that’s changed now. Waiting list is several months now in some areas. Cancer pathways used to be excellent but they are no longer functioning.

This is not true for the majority in NHS

from first hand experience for 4 close family members with cancer in last few months (yes it’s been a difficult time)

Panama2 · 23/03/2024 20:32

They live a life of service to the country and its people they are not servants. All the fuss that has been stirred up by the media and what appear to be conspiracy theorists it absolutely bonkers.

Let the poor woman heal and recover please

Kerensa70 · 23/03/2024 20:42

Not the experience in my family either. Extremely efficient and communication was brilliant, this all has happened in the last 18 months or so.

No "hindsight" here. Some of us have been saying "They said what would happen. Now it is happening. Stop with the conspiracies" for weeks now.

But you try and make yourself feel less shitty, any way you can.

Karadis · 23/03/2024 22:58

To be honest, I'm finding the large number of 'See? We TOLD you...' posts are almost as distasteful as the ones that are coming under more obvious fire.

Everyone wants to tear everyone else down, and sometimes, it just feels crap. I think everyone should back off and post about something else.

Whatafustercluck · 26/03/2024 12:58

Re the NHS. The things it's great at are critical care, and cancer.

The bigger story, that is often missing, is the absolutely dire state of palliative care in the UK. Having held a good friend's hand throughout it, I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Good luck to Kate and family. They're human beings after all, and I would like to think that most of us can identify with them in that way at least. She will have the best care and, I am sure, make a good recovery. Thoughts also with all those families struggling with cancer diagnoses and treatments, and palliative care.

It is certainly true for my OH with "treatable" but incurable cancer. He's been having treatment for 5 years and found the NHS shockingly bad throughout. From lost MRI scans, to wrong advice, to incompetent administration, it's been a running battle to get the diagnosis and treatment.

Every sodding month it's a nightmare to get his prescription for his chemotherapy drugs package. What should be simple and routine is blighted by a labyrynth of different people and departments involved. Even down to two different departments wanting their own monthly blood test instead of both using the same results (same hospital!!). Then it's a lottery as to whether the hospital pharmacy can issue the prescription, even when he's phoned the oncology dept to check they've approved it (two different systems as it's a controlled drug) and then phoned the pharmacy to check they've got it approved and have it ready to dispense.

Heaven knows how patients cope who are elderly/confused and can't navigate all the obstacles and admin cock ups.
