To buy flowers for teacher at parents evening

We have parents evening and I thought I would buy each of my DCs teacher a bunch of flowers. Just to say I appreciate all that they do, nothing fancy. Is it weird, will it look like I'm trying to get brownie points?

It's weird.

Maybeicanhelpyou · 27/02/2024 21:32

Yes

FinallyFeb · 27/02/2024 21:32

Beyond weird.

Notfeelinghunkydory · 27/02/2024 21:32

Don't do it. You'll look like a right arselicker!

MeinKraft · 27/02/2024 21:32

Weird, sorry

tothelefttotheleft · 27/02/2024 21:33

I think it's quite a public way to thank them. I've never see anyone do this.

Maybe chocolates or biscuits would be able to be given more discreetly?

GlitteryEars · 27/02/2024 21:33

Weird to do it at parents evening I think. At the end of the year it would be fine.

Heronwatcher · 27/02/2024 21:33

A bit odd. I’d say do it just before the Easter holidays.

maudelovesharold · 27/02/2024 21:34

I know it comes from a good place, op, but I really wouldn’t do this!

BeakyBlinders · 27/02/2024 21:35

Really weird yes, weird to give them anything on parents evening.

Leeds2 · 27/02/2024 21:35

It won’t win you any favours with the other parents!

CarrotOfPeace · 27/02/2024 21:35

Treat it like an appraisal at work

Gowlett · 27/02/2024 21:36

No. Gifts for teachers is BS in my opinion…

Who cares about them?!

I think just before Easter is nice . I always give Christmas, Easter and end of year.

Our teachers and the SLT are worth their weight in gold.

Pasadenadreaming · 27/02/2024 21:37

I think it's lovely to give the teachers flowers to show you appreciate them. It's maybe not the best timing at parents evening though as it would feel awkward for the teacher if they were then giving critical feedback about your kids! I'm sure they'd appreciate it at the end of the year or Easter.

IgnoranceNotOk · 27/02/2024 21:37

I took biscuits last year but more because I know how hungry teachers are at parents’ evening and how late they end up eating dinner!

I’ll definitely do the same this time too although feel like DS1’s teacher deserves wine as she’s taught him so much!

Wellhellooooodear · 27/02/2024 21:38

Good grief 😂

EarringsandLipstick · 27/02/2024 21:39

God, utterly cringey.

Send in some biscuits to the staff room. I do this at Christmas & summer, occasionally at Easter.

I know how much treats are appreciated in staff rooms, we love when anyone does this for us. (A university setting).

Maddy70 · 27/02/2024 21:39

I think thats a lovely idea. It will be appreciated. Parents evenings are exhausting. Itll be a nice moral boost

bzarda · 27/02/2024 21:39

This is lovely and as a teacher I would really appreciate this.

AddictedToTea · 27/02/2024 21:39

I think it’s fine. I’d love someone to do this for me! 🙂

MumofSpud · 27/02/2024 21:41

I'm a teacher.
Sorry I know it comes from a good place but horrendous idea!
Is it secondary school - it must be if lots of different teachers - your child will be, at best, made fun of

FASDE1517 · 27/02/2024 21:41

Definitely looks like you're bribing for a positive meeting. That being said, I've had a few parents bring in a cookie or brownie and that was very appreciated as I was starving! (Almost exclusively parents who were also teachers themselves.)

Antelopevalleys · 27/02/2024 21:42

At least the flowers will mask the stench of shit from under your nose!

This. Imagine if the teacher has to give negative feedback after you’ve given her a gift. Save presents for end of year or Xmas
