Air BnB CF?

Jbrown76 · 24/02/2024 17:52

Air BnB (sleeps 10) has been booked for £600, and has asked for £120 towards the cost as there are 5 adults who agreed to the price and number of people going (600 divided by 5 is 120).

The organiser has then invited his 2 adult children without asking anyone. The adult children both work full time, and they aren't being asked to pay or contribute their fair share.

£600 divided by 7 (7 adults including the 2 additional host children is £85.71).

The host is still asking for £120, so the remaining 5 adults are expected to cover the contribution of the organiser's children.

Is the host being a CF?

I'd be saying something. I couldn't let that fly. Either the adult children pay, or the organiser covers his children's share. It's not on everyone else to pay for his adult children

Categorically unreasonable of him. That's 2 more adults in the house so the cost to you should now be £85. That's only fair. Doesn't matter so much about bedrooms. You could suggest that you each invite even more people for free, see how he likes that!

Oh that's a good idea Grin.

"Oh I didn't know we were bringing DCs as well, in that case we will bring Tarquin and Oleanna, they can take a break from working at that beach bar in Thailand, they can't afford a break so it will be super that they can come along for free."

ImRen · 25/02/2024 08:49

How are you all communicating? Have you a whattsapp group or similar.
I'd be direct about this and say that you don't want to pay for the adult kids.

Marchingforwards · 25/02/2024 13:14

Definitely speak up otherwise you’ll be resentful on the trip. I wouldn’t accept this situation at all.

So just send a message saying "now that there are 7 adults it looks like it's £85.70 each, right?"

Editing to " So .....................7 adults, I've transferred etc"

If you know the location and you can find it on AirBnB, you could approach the owner/renter with a vague question about additional guests that wouldn't be included in the original booking and what their policy is on that.

It sleeps 10, so as long as they are below that number the owner won’t care. They’re not charging per person.

pollymere · 25/02/2024 18:40

Some Holiday Lets are priced per person. The AirBNB owner may have given a price based on five adults of £120 per person for three nights totalling £600. If the host admits to the extra two adults I suspect the cost will be £840 in total. He's basically not admitting to them and will be using the extra rooms without paying for them.

JCLV · 25/02/2024 19:38

Too bad if they are ‘prickly’. Man up and say it’s not fair.

Buffs · 25/02/2024 20:13

Presumably on that basis you can all invite 2 guests of your own.

JustMeAndTheFish · 25/02/2024 20:14

Open a Splitwise group for the trip and share by 7?

whynotwhatknot · 25/02/2024 20:34

they cover their adult cildrens share not you just send less and say m not paying for your kids

ChellyT · 25/02/2024 22:17

theconfidenceofwho · 24/02/2024 20:15

This would be me too!

Absolutely this!

What is stopping one of the original 5 from inviting their grown child too?

EverySporkIsSacred · 25/02/2024 23:03

"As you have changed the dynamics of the holiday I've decided that at no extra cost I'm bringing my great aunt Mildred along as well"
...and see how they like them apples.

T1Dmama · 26/02/2024 10:27

I wouldn’t ask him, I’d tell him…
so in group chat I’d simply state

“Now that there are 2 extras going we each only need to pay £85.17 per person”

I would clearly state that prices are pp and you think it’s unfair he’s a) invited more along without asking the group and b) expects the group to fund his kids!

in fact at this point I think i would drop out and say his kids coming along wasn’t agreed and will change the dynamics too much!

Who is the AirBnB CF to you @Jbrown76 ?

LookItsMeAgain · 26/02/2024 11:10

Who is the AirBnB CF to you @Jbrown76 ?

Their friend I would presume as OP said it's a group of friends.

LookItsMeAgain · 26/02/2024 16:15

@Mothership4two - I'm going to go out on a limb here and think that this person is either a BiL or a FiL or Step Father to the OP and because they want to keep it vague they are simply saying a 'friend' has organised this.
I'm getting this because the OP said that this person has been prickly to them before when they have stood up to them, which is giving me more FiL vibes than BiL vibes.

If it is indeed your FiL or Step Father, feel free to say "Thanks, but no thanks. We're going to pull out of this trip because the circumstances have changed, we are expected to pay for Friends 2 adult children and that doesn't work for us"

MuggleMe · 26/02/2024 16:20

Everyone should pay less, and if the host doesn't want his children to pay, he can pay their share. I'm assuming you'll be expected to cover the kids food too.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 26/02/2024 16:28

How many bedrooms and how many of those going are in couples? Are there spare rooms or are they expecting a room for CF kids and everyone else has to bunk in rather than a room each?

Lurkingonmn · 26/02/2024 18:09

Fraaahnces · 24/02/2024 19:40

“I think you forgot to factor in your kids. The cost is £600 divided by 7. That adds up to £85 per adult. You’ll have to refund the difference.”

This.
If the adult children are on a pull out in the lounge or something it eill still decrease the space/access for everyone. You also said it was per adult so couples aren't paying less for sharing a room etc so reply as above.

Jbrown76 · 24/02/2024 19:54

I'm being vague because it could he very outing.

It's an Airbnb, dh was sent a link, agreed to £120 for 5 adults, sleeps 10, but all 5 adults get their own room, no idea why we needed a place test sleeps 10 when only 5 were originally going. It's for 3 days. Group of friends, no relations.

Because this was clearly the plan all along!! He knew what he was doing…..it’s likely sofa bed for 2 in living room so probably 4 bedrooms, 2 couples with a room, solo adult with a room then adult children the other room!
Just say “Hey be better if all 7 of us split the cost as we’re all adults so makes it £86 each person, if 2 adults have paid already just say myself & DH will give them the £34 each they’re owed back and I’ll send you on the other £102 balance we owe you then towards it”
Dont faff about with asking, YOU tell him what’s happening, just say it roughly the way I said it, I assume you’ve a group chat about this so everyone can read it because nobody is going to disagree with you apart from the cheeky self entitled git who thinks it’s ok to invite his adult kids along at your expense.

Are you and your DH both going and sharing a room?

dennybev1 · 26/02/2024 19:07

If you don't' say anything now, you may find yourself splitting meals out, drinks bills and goodness knows what else 5 ways as well!

MoonWoman69 · 26/02/2024 19:27

OP seems to have gone on holiday...

Lotus3 · 26/02/2024 19:30

I'd say the "kids" pay or I drop out.
