To not like the way DH eats his boiled eggs?

HibiscusDubonnet · 24/02/2024 14:08

It’s messy and it makes no sense.

DH boils his eggs and then puts them on his buttered toast. He then cuts them in half, puts one half in the egg cup, puts in a soldier but the yolk spurts out as there is no shell to accommodate the extra toast volume. The yolk dribbles down the side and his fingers are all buttery as he touched the egg which has been sitting in melted butter so everything else he touches is all buttery.

And then he asks me how I eat my boiled eggs so neatly and how does the egg cup stay clean? And then we argue because he says he’s a grown man with a grown up job and he can eat his eggs the way he wants to. And I say why did you ask me then?

No diagram but I have photos if you want them.

AIBU: he can eat them the way he wants to fgs
YANBU: it’s a waste of egg and butter

I can handle most food eating ways, no problem. I can be messy myself

However, that's just stupid and messy for no reason.

he might be 42, but he needs to be taught how to top his eggs & butter his toast when it's hot! I have an Aunt who butters her toast then puts it under the grill as she likes it properly melted! He could do that.

tell him you find him eating like a toddler totally off putting & say you're finding it increasing difficult to have sex with him!!

HeadsShouldersTitsandArse · 24/02/2024 15:08

What are egg cups for? I have never owned an egg cup in my life. I mean I know what they’re for.. but is there any point in them really? Why can t you just have the eggs peeled on the plate, cut them open and dip your toast in from the plate?

but to answer your question, I understand the irk of him not doing it the way you would, me and DH have lots of little things we do differently. His way of making a hot chocolate absolutely baffles me. He uses a two mugs and a saucepan to make just one cup of hot chocolate. But I simply told him there was an easier less messy way and left him to it. Still irks me, but it’s the way he likes to do it 😂

I don't understand why he puts them on the toast. It's an unnecessary intermediate resting place.

He wants to melt the butter more.

I don't understand, why are they in their shells on the toast?!!

@mooncloud1 to help melt the butter in the tiast

LittleGreenDragons · 24/02/2024 15:10

has he ever been taught how to open a boiled egg?
B “No, I don’t need to I’m a 42 year old man”

I beg to differ. Age has nothing to do with this, intelligence does.

mrswishywashy1 · 24/02/2024 15:13

Know what turns me about the way he eats them? I can't abide a soft egg and the thought of an eggshell that has been up inside a hen touching my lovely buttery toast 🤮🤮

Dweetfidilove · 24/02/2024 15:13

A bit too messy for me. I like my butter melted too, so I toast last, then butter straight out of the toaster.

A wonderful man is allowed some quirks though, so try to find a distraction while he enjoys his dribbly egg ☺️

Obviously OP didn't - very remiss!

Should have dunked him in water to see whether he floated (bad) or sunk (good).

Or is that witches?

FabFebHalfTerm · 24/02/2024 15:15

@HeadsShouldersTitsandArse

for children it contains the yolk so it remains dippy longer, also many kids enjoy eating the egg out of the shell with a teaspoon (novelty I guess).

I haven't eaten eggs in 35 years (I'm 55) but if I ordered a soft boiled egg in an restaurant/cafe I'd expect it to arrive in an egg cup so I could choose how to eat it & id rather top it/shell it myself 💁🏻‍♀️

Fine at home if the other person knows I want it ON the toast.

You know your lovely butter has been inside a caw's udder, right?

OldTinHat · 24/02/2024 15:19

He is BVU by eating eggs with a runny yolk...bleurgh!

I'm not as precious as this anyway, but come on, it's been boiled. The shell will be nice and clean and fully sterilised.

Don’t be insane. Freshly boiled eggs are only acceptable if they’re oozing with a nice, runny yolk.
Hard boiled eggs acceptable cold if you’re eating as a snack.

TerfTalking · 24/02/2024 15:24

Madness, he’s wasting so much yolk and risking bits of shell being stuck to his toast.

Does He ever order boiled eggs in a hotel? 🙈

HAF1119 · 24/02/2024 15:27

Does he not end up with egg shell on his toast?

Jackiebrambles · 24/02/2024 15:28

Given the timing of your post, don’t tell me this was lunch?! Boiled eggs are for breakfast only. I’m missing the point I know.

He has a first class honours degree from Cambridge University. True.

This is utter chaos! What's the matter with him? None of this matters any sense, and would have me questioning his intelligence. It's utterly bat shit to do it like that, how on earth did he decide to do it that way?

No. He doesn’t order boiled eggs in a hotel, rather fried or poached in butter.

Reading your thread I was trying to imagine what you meant about boil them then put them on the buttered toast but my brain failed to compute until I saw the pic.
