To not like the way DH eats his boiled eggs?

It’s messy and it makes no sense.

DH boils his eggs and then puts them on his buttered toast. He then cuts them in half, puts one half in the egg cup, puts in a soldier but the yolk spurts out as there is no shell to accommodate the extra toast volume. The yolk dribbles down the side and his fingers are all buttery as he touched the egg which has been sitting in melted butter so everything else he touches is all buttery.

And then he asks me how I eat my boiled eggs so neatly and how does the egg cup stay clean? And then we argue because he says he’s a grown man with a grown up job and he can eat his eggs the way he wants to. And I say why did you ask me then?

No diagram but I have photos if you want them.

AIBU: he can eat them the way he wants to fgs
YANBU: it’s a waste of egg and butter

OMG that is odd and would give me the rage. Surely this isn’t the only odd behaviour from him?

Butchyrestingface · 24/02/2024 14:32

DIVORCE.

pikkumyy77 · 24/02/2024 14:33

Is it better or worse than his hobby of killing hobos?

Jeez, what a faff!

crumblingschools · 24/02/2024 14:33

Is the idea to melt the butter? When does he take the shell off? Why doesn’t he just put butter on hot toast? So many questions!

HibiscusDubonnet · 24/02/2024 14:33

Eggs-ibit A, Your Honour: half an egg still in situ on the toast and half an egg in the cup with aforesaid yolk running down the side.

Up to him

There's no wrong or right way

Incorrect. His way is absolutely mental. Why are they sat on the toast? He's mental.

If the amount of butter he has on his toast is indicative of the rest of his diet I would be more concerned about his health!

putting the egg on the toast is weird And the inability to foresee the yolk getting everywhere suggests he isn’t good with consequences. Have you ever seen the rest of his family eat boiled eggs?

if he cleans up after himself then I’d just ignore tbh.

DH is in great shape, has regular health checks at work, is his ideal weight and is running a half marathon tomorrow so I’ll let him off the butter!

Well as you have him with you;

why does he put the egg on the toast?

has he ever been taught how to open a boiled egg?

does he know what a napkin is?

pikkumyy77 · 24/02/2024 14:36

He needs a better spoon (narrower) and maybe some coaching. Practicing veerrrrry slowly with a dozen eggs at a time may work.

It was a regular teaspoon. I think the camera angle elongated it.

Doesn’t he risk getting shell in the egg and on the toast

Baircasolly · 24/02/2024 14:39

WAIT - does he put half an egg still in its shell back onto the toast again??? What about all the little bits of shell around the slicing site? I might have to hide this thread.....

lovemycbf · 24/02/2024 14:39

God if this was my only problem in life 🤣
Let the poor man eat how he likes

I spy a Dad mug in the background. I can't believe you (or someone) had children with this psycho. I hope he is not teaching said children his unreasonable egg eating ways.

A “Because it melts the butter and the toast tastes nicer when the butter is melted on top.”

B “No, I don’t need to I’m a 42 year old man”

Is that a cup of tea you’re making?”

C. He uses a piece of kitchen towel as a napkin if I’m glaring at him in the kitchen.

The mess!

I never allowed my kids soft boiled eggs & soldiers until they could be trusted to eat them neatly Grin

DS won’t eat eggs. I feel it’s a low point in his upbringing.

MelSilver · 24/02/2024 14:43

If you butter the toast when it's made then the butter melts. (Cold toast and unmelted butter is much better with eggs imo) absolutely no reason to cut the eggs in half, just slice the top off.

dinmin · 24/02/2024 14:43

You need a better toaster or to shave the butter thinner or move quicker between toasting and buttering to find another way to melt the butter!
Would he maybe entertain briefly resting the toast on TOP of the two eggs? That might help?

what a waste of butter on the shells… in addition to everything else already mentioned!

AliMonkey · 24/02/2024 14:44

So what does he do with the half that's now sitting on the toast with the yolk running all over the toast/plate? Does he switch them over and put what's left in the egg cup? Either way it's strange and messy and I can't see why you'd do it his way, but as long as he's not expecting someone else to clear up his mess than let him get on with it (though if I was you, I'd probably prefer not to be sat at the table watching him do it!)

It makes the disagreement in our house about whether you cut a baguette straight down or slightly slanted look unimportant!

DontWasteMyTime · 24/02/2024 14:44

What a bastard he sounds 😂

Westfacing · 24/02/2024 14:46

How does said husband cut a soft boiled egg in half still in its shell - am I missing something here?

Lizzieregina · 24/02/2024 14:47

It’s certainly an odd process but I’m a live and let live person.

I’m more horrified by all the soldier haters! You’ll pry my toast soldiers out of my cold dead hands, and I’m over 60!!
