How long after giving birth did your bump go down?

Posting here for traffic lol.

just curious how long after you had your baby did your bump go down? How long was it until you were back into your pre pregnancy clothes? Did you use those belly wraps? was your stomach the same as pre pregnancy or worse or better? I’m expecting my first baby next month and I’ve not put much weight on but I’m hoping to get back into my size 8 clothes by summer and to feel good lol. I’ve bought those belly wraps to use to help with healing and I’m praying the weather is decent and my son loves the pram so I can take him on plenty of walks in the fresh air

It makes no difference, why would it, method of delivery makes no difference to your weight management,

BS.

Why on earth do you think it’s no different with someone who has had a smooth natural delivery to someone who has major surgery? You can’t just spring up and go for long walks the day after.

MariaVT65 · 24/02/2024 03:11

Hi op,

I never fully lost my weight 2 years after my first c section.

I had my second c section 13 weeks ago, and tbh I put weight on. Been unable to breastfeed, i have 2 kids who don’t let me sleep so i am utterly exhausted. I would want to go out for more walks but most days it has been freezing or pissing it down. I’m now banning chocolate from the house and hoping it stops raining so much. I feel disgusting.

Savoretti · 24/02/2024 03:15

Feek awful saying this - but I left hospital the next day in my skinny jeans. I didn’t have a big baby bump though and I swam every day so think my tummy muscles were good and tight

PeloMom · 24/02/2024 03:21

Weight wise dropped quite quick- around 6-8 weeks (total gain was 25lbs). But my body shape was different. I went back to exercise (I exercised throughout pregnancy as well) at 6 weeks once I was cleared (c-section) and was back to pre pregnancy shape within a year. I stopped breastfeeding around the year mark as well and lost further 15-20lbs so before bubba was 1.5 I was well below pre pregnancy weight.

I saw a women’s health physio after I had my kids and she steered me away from belly wraps and instead advised compression leggings / high waisted leggings. Keep things secure but not too tight.
It’s mostly genetics, OP. My cousin literally left hospital in her old jeans after having a 10lb baby; it took me considerably longer 🤣
Water is so key. Drink gallons.

Genuine question….why is the water important please? :)

Bobloblaw84 · 24/02/2024 04:29

I had twins. Put on no weight during pregnancy. It took three years of Pilates to feel like I had a waist again. The support wraps are great for the first couple of months but are not a long term solution.

ttcat37 · 24/02/2024 04:50

I’m 5 weeks post c section. My bump went down straight away and I was wearing all my pre pregnancy clothes straight away. But, my body under my clothes is not the same. The clothes fit but my normally flat tummy now protrudes just above the scar, it’s almost an overhang. I don’t think it will ever go back to how it was. So my size is the same but things don’t look the same at all.
I don’t care, I just grew a baby in there!

MrsHughesPinny · 24/02/2024 04:52

2-3 months to not look pregnant anymore. I was unprepared for how totally weird your belly feels for the first week. Mine were over 8.5lbs, and my figure never looked the same again. Boobs and belly both changed, but that’s totally normal. The doctor told me you can always tell a woman that has been pregnant, your body changes permanently, it’s just varying degrees.

sugar87 · 24/02/2024 05:58

About 4 days but I didn’t get a bump until right at the end of the pregnancy. I still don’t understand where she was. This will depend hugely on how big you are etc.

Muddywoof · 24/02/2024 06:08

With my first, pretty much instantly. With my second... think it'll be a while.

Caspianberg · 24/02/2024 06:08

Pretty quick. Gained 20kg, baby was 4kg. Lost 14kg within 24hrs of birth, so a lot baby related. Within 8 weeks of breastfeeding constantly and walking a lot with baby who didn’t like being still I was underweight

I did buy some new clothes for that first summer though as had bigger boobs due to breastfeeding and needing some dresses with easy to feed openings

Breast feeding is your friend here. I didn't put on loads when pregnant and didn't actively do anything to lose weight but I lost it all and more just from breastfeeding. I was maybe walking more but not for the first 3 or 4 months at least. After my second when I was breastfeeding and getting out and about loads with a very active toddler, I was the skinnest I had been since I was a teenager!

Yes this was me too.
I was 37 when I had my second child and went down to 8 stone at 5ft 6 which was actually too thin.
She was always a hungry child though.

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 24/02/2024 06:23

6 weeks, but I was 23.

I think I also got lucky!

Mrspatmoresspoon · 24/02/2024 06:27

I knew who this poster was going to be before I even opened the thread

Op it doesn’t matter, don’t put yourself under any stress trying to maintain a certain standard of beauty or “wellness”

You're having a baby, a life changing moment and something entirely new to focus on.
You’ve going to be in charge of a new human being soon - tanning, fillers, hair, snapping back to a certain size are not going to be important

About four months, but I put it back on in the second half of my maternity leave when he started teething and I ate chocolate to get me through the tiredness and boredom.

This!!!

IncompleteSenten · 24/02/2024 06:36

They're 22 and 24 now.

I'll get back to you if it ever happens.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 24/02/2024 06:46

Took me 6 months to lose 12 kg. I walked about 10 km with the pram every day (yeah, sorry about the metric system, I'm not British) and breastfed my son. I walked regardless of the weather. Had a good raincover for the pram. It rained every day for a month in February that year. I still walked. And I ate everything. Food in abundance, sweets, chocolate, cake, crisps, soda, everything and all the time. I've never been so hungry or eaten so much in my life. I still consistently lost 2 kg every month for 6 months.

ArrestHer · 24/02/2024 06:50

3-4 months for my stomach. I have some stretch marks but I was back in usual clothes pretty fast and the same size. Youngest is ten and I’m still similar size now, maybe a half a size bigger.

my issue was my hips changed so still had to get new clothes as my shape was different. .

SmartiesParty · 24/02/2024 07:01

Took me about two weeks to get into pre pregnancy jeans but I'm still 10% higher than my pre pregnancy weight

MikeRafone · 24/02/2024 07:08

Two weeks, I didn’t do anything, I hadn’t put on weight when pregnant though. That meant when I had baby the bump slowly went down over 10 days or so and I was back in my jeans two weeks later.

i was in my 20s though and that possibly makes a difference to having babies later in age

just curious how long after you had your baby did your bump go down? How long was it until you were back into your pre pregnancy clothes? Did you use those belly wraps? was your stomach the same as pre pregnancy or worse or better? Never heard of belly wraps (??) but yes, get out walking every day - best thing you can do.

DS1 - left hospital after 5 days (that was the old days) in my normal but loose clothes. 10 days after my feet were back to normal size and my womb went down very quickly according to mw. I was back in normal clothes within a couple of weeks.

DS2 - c section. Left hospital after two days still in mat clothes. Took about a month before I could get jeans on and was also a month until my feet were back to normal. Out walking with the pram without DH by about 3-4 weeks. Both times I shifted the weight pretty quickly and with DS1 I was thinner six months later, maybe weighed half a stone less when I went back to work , than pre-pregnancy due to all the walking. With DS2 I got back to pre/pregnancy weight fairly quickly but not less.

I went back to circuit training after 3 months but slowly and not floor work like sit-ups due to the section. After 6 months I was doing the full circuit and was fine.

Maray1967 · 24/02/2024 07:11

PS I was 33 with DS1 and 40 with DS2.

4 years and counting

Came here to say the same 🤣

MuchTooTired · 24/02/2024 07:23

I put on 4 stone whilst I was pregnant with my DTs. 1 stone was babies, 2 stones were placenta and water retention, and the last stone was biscuits. It was 6 weeks until I was back in non maternity clothes, and 6 years on my tummy is a disgusting hot mess that’s never going to go back to ‘normal’.
