How long after giving birth did your bump go down?

Posting here for traffic lol.

just curious how long after you had your baby did your bump go down? How long was it until you were back into your pre pregnancy clothes? Did you use those belly wraps? was your stomach the same as pre pregnancy or worse or better? I’m expecting my first baby next month and I’ve not put much weight on but I’m hoping to get back into my size 8 clothes by summer and to feel good lol. I’ve bought those belly wraps to use to help with healing and I’m praying the weather is decent and my son loves the pram so I can take him on plenty of walks in the fresh air

Pretty much immediately. I had pretty small babies and put on virtually no fat on my belly. I did a lot of yoga.

6 years and no exercise later, I'm a stone heavier. So I've nothing to be smug about... the weight can get you one way or another post kids

Businessflake · 23/02/2024 22:14

I can’t remember with my first. But when I got pregnant with my second I was 10kg lighter than score my first.

I was back into normal jeans 2 weeks after to the day with my second. For full disclose they were my “fat jeans” but still size 10.

i had c sections with both.

leopardski · 23/02/2024 22:15

I saw a women’s health physio after I had my kids and she steered me away from belly wraps and instead advised compression leggings / high waisted leggings. Keep things secure but not too tight.
It’s mostly genetics, OP. My cousin literally left hospital in her old jeans after having a 10lb baby; it took me considerably longer 🤣
Water is so key. Drink gallons.

I wore my normal clothes the day after giving birth. I gained a stone with each baby and lost all that with baby, placenta and water so was back to pre-pregnancy weight the day after. My stomach was like a deflated ball of dough for a couple of days but soon back to normal. I've never had a flat stomach though, even as a young teen. My uterus was back down and not palpable after a few days each time due to all 3 feeding what felt like continuously. I remember the shocked midwife's face when she felt my abdomen. My milk came in really quickly too and surprised them. I have a weird body I guess. The deflated dough effect is quite something!

It really is! A wrinkly popped balloon! I could fold it into my leggins and look quite skinny in under a week first time!

TakeMe2Insanity · 23/02/2024 22:17

I had put on 10kg. Back in normal clothes and pre pregnancy jeans at 2 weeks. Combination of emergency c section, extreme stress (baby in nicu), having to walk a lot and not eating.

Honestly concentrate on enjoying the baby and forget about the gain. Everyone is very different.

Naptrappedmummy · 23/02/2024 22:18

About 2 weeks and I was back in normal clothes, stomach looked normal again with no loose skin after about 2 months. I realise this sounds braggy, but you asked! Currently waiting for my boobs to reappear however, just finishing up breastfeeding now and they’re so empty and floppy. Last time it took about 6 months to a year for them to get their volume back.

FluffletheMeow · 23/02/2024 22:19

The actual bump sometime in the fog of the very newborn stage, probably a few weeks. I remember being a bit upset about how I looked after birth and wondering if it would ever go back to normal. (It did)
I also did get fatter, and for various reasons struggled with breastfeeding, so I did long walks with the pram. (Full covid). I was back to a size 8/10 sometime in the first year.
Now, and I'd say I'm as thin/fit as I was pre pregnancy maybe more so. Toddlers are hard work! I have some stretch marks, but wouldn't lose them, they tell a story.
My son is 3.

BeardieWeirdie · 23/02/2024 22:19

I started out at 57kg and gained 10kg in pregnancy and was back in normal clothes straightaway. I weighed myself after 2 weeks and I’d lost 8kg, and the remainder in another month. With breastfeeding, I was down to 54kg and looking gaunt at 4m PP, I couldn’t maintain my weight at all, despite two dinners and snacks! Got back to my normal weight once I eventually weaned (stopped BF at 3, she wasn’t interested in food). Almost all my friends who breastfed and were vaguely active with buggy/carrier/dog walks were soon back to normal.

Junebug22 · 23/02/2024 22:19

My bump was almost gone immediately after my c-section. The nurse in post op actually commented on it! I’d say it took about 2 weeks to get back to my pre pregnancy weight but I only put on what amounted to the baby, placenta and extra fluid -about a stone. I didn’t wear jeans until maybe 6 weeks after the birth but that was because it was a really hot summer and I was paranoid about tight jeans over my healing scar. I also didn’t breast feed. I did go on lots of walks as I had a summer baby and was desperate to get back to running but sensibly waited until 12 weeks post op before doing anything high impact. I remember stupidly weighing myself when I got home from the hospital -don’t do it, you’re still retaining fluid and I found it really demoralising. (I think the hormones were to blame for me even thinking it was important!).

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 23/02/2024 22:19

I was back in pre pregnancy clothes within a fortnight and only put on half a stone during the pregnancy.

mummabubs · 23/02/2024 22:19

My weight is now the same as when I first became pregnant, however my body doesn't look the same at all. I didn't have a c sec but definitely have excess skin and a sort of shelf, likely from my bidy being super stretched going to 42+2 with DS. All I'd say from my experience is don't get hung up on the scale number as they don't necessarily correlate to how you expect to look!

chineapplepunks · 23/02/2024 22:20

Mine went basically as soon as DD was born but I did have a small bump to begin with.

Hotpolarbear · 23/02/2024 22:20

My ds is 8 days old and my stomach has pretty much disappeared. I havent weighed myself as I hated weighing myself previously but I know I put on 2 stone during pregnancy. I am very active and have kept my fitness levels up during pregnancy which I'm adiment helped with my labour which was 2.5 hours.
All through my pregnancy and since giving birth I've done my horses and walked the dog 2 x daily. Don't pressure yourself into losing weight it all happens at dofferant rates.
I also express milk and formula feed. Hoping expressing is going tonhelp late weight quicker too.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/02/2024 22:21

First baby, about a year. Second baby, about a week. First baby was in 1998. Midwife said eat for two and stop running. So I did and put on 4 stone 🙈. Second baby I was 42. I ate normally. Carried on at gym. Did my last Body Combat class the day before birth. Was much stronger and fitter so once I'd birthed 9.5lbs, I was back to reasonably normal in a week, could do up jeans etc. Took about a month to get back to pre birth weight. I realised that I didn't need to eat for two or lie down for nine months. However, it is such a personal thing. Don't ever beat yourself up if it's difficult. It takes time.

Sapphire387 · 23/02/2024 22:22

Took me about 18 months to get back to normal with each baby. I breastfed two and only lost the weight when I stopped. Third is bottle fed but I'm struggling at six months postpartum, haha. I have diastasis recti and need to do some work on that.

Grammarmum · 23/02/2024 22:22

Cannot remember with my childrenbut it was definitely a few months. Very different for my daughter ,she had really strong abdominal muscles and was still at the gym a few weeks before childbirth. She never really had an obvious bump ,had a 7lb baby and was looking normal within a week.

Unicorntearsofgin · 23/02/2024 22:22

Baby number 1 - 6 weeks

Baby number 2 - never fully and just had to accept being a size 10 rather than 8

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 23/02/2024 22:23

I honestly have no idea how long it took my DD1. Not long for the bump to disappear I don’t think and back in normal clothes within a couple of weeks.

DD2 I remember feeling like my bump disappeared by the next day. Squishy stomach for considerably longer.

Pregnant with DS and significantly heavier than I was pre DD1 and she’s 10.

LuluBlakey1 · 23/02/2024 22:23

I was a bit overweight before I had DS1 and didn't actually put on a lot if weight because I ate more healthily and wasn't having a drink. I was back in my normal clothes within 4 weeks- I walked him every day for at least 6 miles.

With DD it took longer but less than 6 months.

DS2 is 4 going on 5 now and I did lose the baby weight but have put weight on again. Now doing Slimming World and have lost 20lbs since Christmas.

FunnysInLaJardin · 23/02/2024 22:25

never, hth. DS1 is now 18...

My body changed forever after DC. Not necessarily for the worse, just different

orangeleopard · 23/02/2024 22:25

Soo I gained so much weight during pregnancy that I went from a true size 8 pre pregnancy to a size 18 by the end of my pregnancy. I had a c-section and my belly was solid and took months and months to go down. I remember my son being about 3 months and I still looked pregnant and my neighbours dad said ‘not long to go then’ and I felt shame in myself for so long.

But I was unfortunately a bit depressed as I was a single parent with my baby during lockdown with an abusive ex who was causing me grief and I wasn’t eating right so lost a lot of weight fast (don’t recommend). So I went from a size 18 to a size 4/6 in a year. Bit gutted that I threw out all my pregnancy clothes though as I thought I’d never lose the weight to wear them again!

Caravaggiouch · 23/02/2024 22:28

Within a few days. I had gestational diabetes and was on a strict diet while pregnant so all my baby weight was baby and fluids. I’d been overweight previously so had a bit of a pouchy stomach to start with, pregnancy didn’t make it noticeably worse as the damage was already done.

Todaysproblem · 23/02/2024 22:29

Thanks to breastfeeding and plenty of walks I was a size 6-8 by the time both of mine were around 6-8 months old. I put on over 2 stones with each pregnancy.

poshfrock · 23/02/2024 22:29

Back in my jeans after 5 days with my first. The baby weight went after the baby was born. Although he was quite small. Only 8lbs. My second was 9lbs 10 so it took about 6 weeks.

elliejjtiny · 23/02/2024 22:31

Older 3 were vaginal births. Ended up 1-2 stone lighter than pre pregnancy just after giving birth due to morning sickness but tummy still swollen for a couple of months. Younger 2 were c-sections. Weighed exactly the same after birth as I did just before. Very annoying. Younger 2 only 12 months age gap too and still trying to lose the weight 10 years later.
