How long after giving birth did your bump go down?

Posting here for traffic lol.

just curious how long after you had your baby did your bump go down? How long was it until you were back into your pre pregnancy clothes? Did you use those belly wraps? was your stomach the same as pre pregnancy or worse or better? I’m expecting my first baby next month and I’ve not put much weight on but I’m hoping to get back into my size 8 clothes by summer and to feel good lol. I’ve bought those belly wraps to use to help with healing and I’m praying the weather is decent and my son loves the pram so I can take him on plenty of walks in the fresh air

The belly was gone within a couple of weeks, but I was just wider for a long time!

I don't think I ate particularly badly in pregnancy (ok there was quite a bit of chocolate) but your body just kind of widens with the load I think.

It was about 6 months before I could fit in pre-preg jeans and a few more months before they were comfy. I did eat more healthily and exercise though.

Iwant2move · 23/02/2024 22:32

Between three and four months with the first two. Immediately after the third. Three hours after he was born, a nurse commented that I didn’t look pregnant.
I think my muscles had just given up and I only gained 13 lbs throughout the pregnancy. Baby was 7lbs 9.

gemloving · 23/02/2024 22:35

People would have said j look the same as before 3 months post partum but knowing my own body it took about 6-9 months each time. I have three kids x

justwantobeamum · 23/02/2024 22:36

With DS1 only gained 9lbs due to HG. DS was most of that so with water/fluid/placenta I think I came home next day lighter. There’s a pic of me at 7 days pp wearing my pre pregnancy jeans. By about 5-8 days no bump and at 4months pp I was a lot thinner and in better shape than pre pregnancy. Remained thinner till I stopped BF at 13 months.

Icanflyhigh · 23/02/2024 22:37

19 years so far......😂

KnittedCardi · 23/02/2024 22:38

Well I didn't breastfeed and still was in normal clothes within a couple of weeks. I didn't put much excess weight on, just baby etc, and my uterus was gone within a couple of days. No stretch marks or saggy skin. Both times I was at my fittest just before getting pregnant, so that helps, the rest genetics I think.

Thisisnotarehearsal · 23/02/2024 22:39

30 years on and it's still wobbly, stretch marked and loose.

Stevesellsshells · 23/02/2024 22:40

About 4 weeks. Weirdly my ribcage never went back to the same size so ended up selling loads of dresses because they wouldn't zip up. Bloody annoying.

showmethegin · 23/02/2024 22:43

Everyone is different. I put on 3.5 stone in pregnancy. Barely anything until about 20 weeks, super active and swimming 3 times a week; then the PGP hit and I could barely walk!

DS is now 20 months old and I'm 4.5 stone down, so a over a stone lighter than I was when I got pregnant. Lots of calorie counting and walking but after a section I don't think my stomach will ever look the same again.

Hollybelle83 · 23/02/2024 22:43

Highly likely your stomach will ever be the same as it was! First baby, 9 months - not until I stopped BF. Second baby loads less - 6 weeks. My body has never been what is was since, 7 years later.

ThatNavyTiger · 23/02/2024 22:43

Mine hasn't gone. I put on about 3 stone when pregnant and lost 2 stone very quickly. The last stone I've not really made an effort to shift but I really doubt that alone will flatten my stomach! 18 months postpartum and look about 5 months pregnant.

BogRollBOGOF · 23/02/2024 22:51

I had horrid pregnancies of exhaustion/ nausea going into SPD, so lost a lot of muscle mass through lack of movement and gained weight rapidly in the second half. First time I went from a low of 8st 7 having lost weight while gaining bump to 13st at the end. Big baby. Lots of fluid. I quickly went down to a "me" weight of 11st when the surplus fluids went. (My legs were thinner than usual due to muscle loss!) Took 3 months to slim back into maternity jeans (most maternity clothes gave up at the end of the 2nd tri) and lost weight steadily by sensible eating and gradually building up exercise in the 9-12m after. Ended up a few lb lighter than my pre-pregnancy 9st 2.

Thanks to a CS overhang and having ended up as a size 8 with a 43" waist, my shape is permanently altered (baby now a teenager), and a couple of inches bigger on the waist through over-stretched skin. I have a healthy body mass though and have done what is realistically viable. I'll never not be squishy in the middle by natural means.

Different bodies react differently. I did lose weight while feeding ravenous bottle refusers. Weaning was a good time to eat well by making sure baby and I both ate well-balanced diets.

BurbageBrook · 23/02/2024 22:51

I put on about three stone and had lost it by about 3-4 months postpartum. (Obviously a chunk of that weight was baby!) The bump has gone now apart from a small C-section ridge at 7 months PP. I think breastfeeding helped me lose the weight as haven't really been exercising that much compared to pre pregnancy.

Ilikebacon · 23/02/2024 22:58

Gained 17lbs on my first and lost it all within 10 days without trying, bump literally went immediately.

Gained 12lb on my second and lost within 2 weeks, had a c section so while I lost the weight, I was left with an overhang.

Nothingbuttheglory · 23/02/2024 21:58

4 years and counting

Same. I do remember being shocked it didn't just immediately shrink back, genuinely.

Sahara123 · 23/02/2024 23:01

36 years so far, despite breast feeding 3 of them …🤣

Maryamlouise · 23/02/2024 23:06

I ate super healthy, BF exclusively and was out on loads of walks and I felt it took ages to fully recover, could get back in pre pregnancy clothes within a few months but until I really felt back to normal and that everything kind of tightened up again was around 10 months (roughly when I was getting to sleep through the night sometimes). BF means the weight falls off annoyed me as it didn't seem to work for me. I guess just saying we are all different and don't feel bad it if it takes a little longer than you'd like

Disneydatknee88 · 23/02/2024 23:06

It took about 6 weeks for my "bump" to go down (that bloated uterus bump!) I'd put on some weight during pregnancy. It took another 6/7 months or so to lose the baby weight.

Coolstorybroh · 23/02/2024 23:19

I didn't gain weight at all during pregnancy. Probably helped that I already looked a bit pregnant before, but I genuinely returned to my pre-pregnancy body as soon as the birth was over. A year later and I'm still wetting myself every time I sneeze though. You can't have it all.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 23/02/2024 23:36

Genuinely about 24 hours both times. I never wore anything other than pre-pregnancy size clothes after giving birth.

I'm not particularly fit or anything, and I had a normal sized bump I think. I guess it was a combination of not really putting on much weight except for the the bump, and general body shape/genes? I certainly didn't do anything to make it happen.

spicedlemonpie · 23/02/2024 23:49

I had 2 cc my first i could not shift the weight at all i was just plump all over.
My second i was in size 8-10 jeans after 6months.

Lizzieregina · 23/02/2024 23:50

i went home from hospital in pre pregnancy clothes. I was very sick when pregnant and didn’t put on much weight. With #2 I put on 10lbs and she was 8lb 6 and with #3 I lost 10lbs and she was almost 8. But I wasn’t exactly skinny when I got pregnant anyway.

YankSplaining · 24/02/2024 02:40

People say breastfeeding will help you lose weight, but that didn’t work for me. Breastfeeding made me ravenously hungry, like a teenage boy in the middle of a growth spurt.

One thing to keep in mind is that even if you lose all the weight, pregnancy expanded your ribcage and that might not go back to the way it was. Also, your bra cup size might stay larger even after you finish breastfeeding.

LauderSyme · 24/02/2024 02:44

I am sure breastfeeding trimmed me down very quickly, was slimmer than pre-pregnancy within a couple of months.

LauderSyme · 24/02/2024 02:47

My actual bump was gone in 2 weeks. DS was fairly ravenous, think I breastfed him every 45 minutes round the clock for those 2 weeks.
