How often do you wipe the fronts of your cupboard?

About 6 months ago we had a new kitchen installed. It awakened the dormant clean freak in me. I probably wipe the fronts of the cupboards 2/3x a week (45 sec job when done regularly). But God forbid I skip a week…It will look like they haven’t been touched in years.

I do live with a dog who gets walked in the muddiest part of the woods behind us (I can thank DH for that who likes “his” route).

This can’t be normal.

Only if they look grubby (and I can be bothered)

1-2 times a year

snapdragongirl · 21/02/2024 18:03

When I notice they need it (usually if it's a really sunny day, the sun streaming in shows up marks I'd not noticed before!) Probably once a month or so. If there's an obvious spill or mark I would clean that straight away though.

Here's a follow up question - how often does your DH wipe the cupboard fronts? (I ask as I don't believe my DH has ever done this in any property we've lived in over the past 20 years, and I have a theory he's not even aware of it as a job that needs doing....along with cleaning inside the fridge, dusting between the spindles on the stairs and about a million other invisible jobs I do)

Every day as have white cupboards

This for us too.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 21/02/2024 18:06

I have a sort of dark wood, not mahogany dark but dark. I wipe them when I remember or notice a spill. I have a flash mop which I do my floors with, so will usually use that to mop the cupboards as it's quick and easy.

TubeScreamer · 21/02/2024 18:06

Almost never. Certainly not several times a day!

there are 10000001 things I would rather do instead.

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 21/02/2024 18:16

Oh!

I imagined people were going to answer: twice a year!

Waitingfordoggo · 21/02/2024 18:18

@cordeliachaseatemyhandbag it’s once a week for me but only because it’s ’on my radar’. I’m sure there are loads of other housework jobs I’m ‘supposed’ to be doing but never or hardly ever do, either because I just haven’t noticed that they need doing or because they don’t seem important.

crazycatladie · 21/02/2024 18:26

Cleaner here, I wipe my customers cupboards every week, high gloss ones are the worst for showing grease and finger marks. Mine own cupboards were probably wiped 6 months ago 😳

Tinytigertail · 21/02/2024 18:27

Wiped down daily and cleaner deep cleans fortnightly. Oldish kitchen (10 years) so any less and it looks grubby.

orangeleopard · 21/02/2024 18:28

Mine unfortunately are white, so I do a thorough clean of them every Sunday without fail (Sunday is my routine cleaning day). But I also wipe down any visible marks on them if I see it.

TeaAndStrumpets · 21/02/2024 18:40

My very old kitchen cupboards are a hand waxed solid wood. Occasionally I dust the mouldings with a soft brush but they don't seem to attract stains - maybe having no pets or toddlers helps.

I am quite horrified at hearing how often people are cleaning their cupboard fronts. Obviously modern units need a high level of upkeep!

Never.

But there are plenty of jobs he does which are invisible to me - like he refills all the hand soap dispensers and the salt in the water softener and resets the boiler for changes in the seasons and TBH I only vaguely know when bin day is

Panda89 · 21/02/2024 18:48

I have white shiny cupboards that show up everything!
Fortunately DD 7 loves to wipe them to ‘help’ me when cleaning so she does it once per week with a little cloth bless her.
so my answer is 1 x per week and I spot clean them if I spill something on them when cooking.

Pllystyrene · 21/02/2024 19:04

Probably around twice a week but for cupboard doors, splashback daily and tiles once a week.

Same here. I have a very old kitchen. On the basis of this thread, I am never getting a new one! I had gloss and a wooden work top in my last place. This old kitchen is so much better!

Tbf my husband will also go over the cupboard fronts when we’re cleaning the worktop before bed, so I can’t complain about that. He does the fridge inside more than me but the spindles would never ever occur to him to do. Same way he doesn’t think cleaning radiators is necessary- specifically bathroom radiators that get drip marks from people drying their hands!

Countrylife2002 · 21/02/2024 19:12

Has anyone got plykea and doesn’t have to clean them? When I upgrade these were what I had in mind. But I’ll stick with my ancient kitchen if they also need daily cleaning !!

FindingMeno · 21/02/2024 19:13

Honest answer? The weeks sometimes extend to months.....unless there's an obvious spill.
I'm over trying to be Supermum.

Createausername1970 · 21/02/2024 19:13

I have white doors. Some of the low ones get wiped down at least once a week or whenever I spot a spillage. The top ones less so. I am quite short so I have to stand on steps to reach the top half and it's a bit of a faff.

Threewheeler1 · 21/02/2024 19:13

I started reading the thread title with a horrible feeling this might be one of those special half-term threads...relieved to see it's about cupboards!😂
Probably every couple of days as they're pale and everyone in this house has problems keeping their crap on the counter. Constant coffee, tea, water dribbles down the fronts.
Also, when the sun comes out I see that grimy, dusty layer on them (this house is the dustiest place I've ever lived!) and it shames me into action...😒😳

Liann811 · 21/02/2024 19:15

I wipe mine down everyday

BobnLen · 21/02/2024 19:23

To answer PP upthread, I can safely say that DH has never done this.

TheNoodlesIncident · 21/02/2024 19:31

When I notice a dribble on one of them. I clean it off then look at the others and do them where needed. They're cream shaker, so with the annoying panel that garners dust lovingly to its bosom.

My next kitchen will have flat cupboard doors in a tea-dribble colour.

SwordToFlamethrower · 21/02/2024 19:32

Probably weekly, but i spot clean them.

Nellieinthebarn · 21/02/2024 19:37

About every 2-3 days, they are white gloss slab fronts, IKEA I think. They came with the house, and I thought they would be a cleaning nightmare, but they're not too bad. Yes they show the muck, but are really easy to clean. Just a quick spray and wipe, done. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes at the most.
