How often do you wipe the fronts of your cupboard?

About 6 months ago we had a new kitchen installed. It awakened the dormant clean freak in me. I probably wipe the fronts of the cupboards 2/3x a week (45 sec job when done regularly). But God forbid I skip a week…It will look like they haven’t been touched in years.

I do live with a dog who gets walked in the muddiest part of the woods behind us (I can thank DH for that who likes “his” route).

This can’t be normal.

Just whenever I notice they need it.

SwingTheMonkey · 21/02/2024 15:04

Daily. But we inherited white and dark grey gloss in our new house and we’ve got 4 children. The white looks grubby quickly and the grey shows every. single. fingerprint.

Katemax82 · 21/02/2024 15:07

I'm a cleaner and wipe clients kitchen cupboards every time ( once a week or fortnight). I do mine about once a week

misskatamari · 21/02/2024 15:07

Flipping heck, I’m shocked by this thread! Probably about once a year when I notice them here 😳😳😳

Diamondcurtains · 21/02/2024 15:09

Most days they’re cream gloss and even though all my kids are older they still open the cupboards with filthy hands .

Spaghettieis · 21/02/2024 15:11

When we spill stuff on them, so probably about once or twice a week. I hate the sodding handle-less design which catches dirt and crumbs on the lower cabinets.

seriw · 21/02/2024 15:11

We renovated our entire home late last year and am just seeing the issue with our kitchen cupboard doors now that the sun is out more - they are navy and need cleaned constantly! So every day or two now 😅

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/02/2024 15:25

Most days they have a going over with a microfibre cloth, because they’re gloss. It’s the work of seconds really. If you don’t do them because they don’t show the finger marks etc, surely they’re not clean, but just not so noticeable.

I'm a Proper Mumsnetter, so I do mine every hour.

The rest of the time, I'm changing beds, cooking from scratch, ironing the cat and making sure everyone changes their clothes each time they come back into the lounge.

A Proper Mumsnetter would never say ‘lounge’!

I do mine about once a month

It really depends on your cupboards.

I have dark painted shaker style and it just shows up every fingerprint or smudge

Previous kitchen, I was like you and once a year was fine

shoppingshamed · 21/02/2024 15:40

Not something I have a regime for , as and when they need it and I have time to do it

SallyWD · 21/02/2024 15:41

We have white kitchen cupboards but they generally really look clean. I only notice dirt on the areas near the handles (greasy fingerprints!) so I wipe those areas. We do have cleaners who may give the cupboards a very quick wipe but I've never seen them do it.

Waitingfordoggo · 21/02/2024 15:44

TheDowagerDoughnut · 21/02/2024 14:30

So often that the next cupboard doors are going to be perfectly flat with no borders, ridges etc - just to make the wipe over much easier!

I hear you! We haven’t changed our kitchen since we moved in ten years ago. The cupboards are a cream colour but have an inset bit and a…I don’t know what it’s called but like coving round the edge. Basically they’re a pain to wipe down so I do it once a week.

Rainbowshit · 21/02/2024 15:46

Realistically once a week. They are dark and show fingerprints badly so should really be more frequently...

Sleepysleep19 · 21/02/2024 15:48

Only if there is a mark, so very rarely!!

KnittedCardi · 21/02/2024 15:49

When I do a full kitchen clean, so once a week.

BobnLen · 21/02/2024 15:50

About every 2 or 3 weeks, they are matt cream shaker style and look fine, 26 years old Shreiber from MFI, only two of us though and no children now I probably did them more often when DS was here. How I miss MFI😕

DramaAlpaca · 21/02/2024 15:58

<makes note to self: when replacing kitchen, don't choose light coloured or glossy doors>

I'm chronically lazy and only do mine when I can be bothered, which is rarely. The units are over twenty years old and a bit scruffy, I reckon nobody notices a few marks.

Isseywith3witchycats · 21/02/2024 15:58

pale blue gloss with simple handles here no kids all grown up and gone so i do the cupboard doors once a week with hot water washing up liquid and a microfibre cloth unless one of us spills something down a cupboard door and then that is done straight away

SpacePotato · 21/02/2024 16:02

We have a cheap black gloss kitchen that was here when we moved in.

I despise it. It never looks clean. Family members use the handles when opening the cupboards but then just push the doors to close them so permanently full of finger/handprints.
They look shit no matter how much they are wiped.

Didn't realise dark matt was just as bad.

Had flat cream shaker style in previous house. Needed to wipe them occasionally but they never looked grubby.

But does it matter if they're not clean, if you can't see it? I don't tend to lick the cupboard doors...

guineasgalore · 21/02/2024 16:05

Pretty much daily as ours are handless so get lots of finger marks...

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/02/2024 16:05

Depends whether you’re bothered if things are clean I suppose.

BestZebbie · 21/02/2024 16:06

Dark doors/no dog - the bottom ones get done at min once a week but more like 2-3 times because they get marks from using the worksurfaces.
I think I have washed the top ones at least once since moving in ten years ago.... (I do wash the metal cooker fan cover fairly often)

Northsideoftheriver · 21/02/2024 16:14

Friday is my designated wipe the upper cupboards day. The bottom ones are wiped most days due to a 13 year old who loves to cook, a sticky fingered four year old and general clumsiness from the adults. White, matt, shaker units, what was I thinking? I nearly bought gloss ones.
